Day 1

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 1).

Scene 1 (Homura)

Homura wakes up. Today is the long-awaited day of discharge. She'd been absent from school for a long time due to her heart condition but now she would finally be allowed to leave the hospital. Then she could go to school like a normal student, although she wasn't so sure she could do it.

Scene 2 (Mami)

Mami lets out a heavy sigh as she makes her way to school. Was it because she ate something right before bed, or was it the stress of not being able to make friends? Being a magical girl was hard work but the quid pro quo of the contract was unavoidable. Maybe she shouldn't have reached out to her? No, she just has to be more positive. Normally they're not the kind of person who would care about them but she had wanted to cheer her up. They even went out of their way to lend them a book. Granted it was a "How to make bombs" book, but that didn't make her feel any better. It was so weird, why would she carry something like this in the first place? She catches up to the girl in question and gives her back the book. She's sorry it's not what she needs just now so she's just returning it.

Day 2

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 2).

Scene 3 (Madoka)

Outside Récompense, Madoka Kaname, Sayaka Miki, and Hitomi Shizuki beckon as they look around for the resident stray cat Amy. However it doesn't seem as if she's there just now. It's a shame since Sayaka had gone through the trouble of bringing it a tasty snack. Hitomi wonders if Amy will eat it since it's chicken flavored after she snubbed the tuna flavored treats they had offered her. But Madoka is certain it will work since she asked the pastry chef at Récompense. Sayaka wonders if top chefs even know what cats like, but Hitomi loves the flavors of the cakes they offer there. She calls it second to none, not even her family's personal chef. Well, Sayaka won't be able to help if they never find Amy. Madoka sees something white.

Her friends ask if she saw Amy, but Madoka shakes her head. Amy is a black cat whereas the creature she saw was white, with really long ears. But it couldn't have been a rabbit, at least not this deep into the city.

Scene 4 (Madoka)

Madoka sits in her room as she wonders about the future. Should she be a nurse, or florist when she grows up? Or maybe a pastry chef or housewife? She's still not sure. She hears a voice bidding her good evening and turns to see the white creature standing at her windowsill. She recognizes it from earlier and is surprised it knows her name. The creature says it has a favor to ask of her and asks if she will make a contract with him to become a magical girl.

Day 3

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 3).

Scene 5 (Madoka)
Madoka wakes up. She'd had such a weird dream, about her future dream to become a magical girl. There was also that strange creature that called itself Kyubey but there was no way it could have been real. Kyubey shows up a if summoned. Madoka can't believe it, it wasn't a dream after all!
Scene 6 (Sayaka)
Madoka bids her friends Hitomi and Sayaka good morning on their way to school. Sayaka is surprised to find Madoka running late to school, but Madoka blames it on staying up late the night before. Sayaka asks if it was because of the upcoming math test, however Madoka shakes her head. Hitomi asks if it was love troubles which makes Madoka get flustered and tell her to cut it out. She asks them what they would wish for if they could make any one wish come true. Sayaka asks if this is what was keeping her up at night then laughs when Madoka admits it was. Hitomi gives it some thought and decides on wishing for good health. There's no point in immortality or any other kind of wish if you just get sick and die. So long as you have a healthy body anyone can achieve anything. Madoka laughs appreciatively then asks Sayaka what she would want.

Sayaka says she doesn't really have any wishes. It's not that there aren't thing she wants. If she were rich there'd be no end to the things she'd buy, but as it is she's happy just going out to eat together with her friends. It's Madoka's turn to tease her friend as she asks Sayaka if there aren't a bunch of music CDs she's had her eyes on. Sayaka admits it's true, but just like Hitomi she believes there's no point in getting what you want if it's not by your own hands. Madoka sees what she means. Sayaka asks her what's going on that made her focus on that kind of question but Madoka brushes it off.

Scene 7 (Madoka)
The girls realize how late it's gotten so Sayaka hurries off after bidding them goodbye. Hitomi also bids Madoka goodbye and heads for hom. Madoka knows Sayaka is off to visit Kyosuke Kamijo in the hospital again and she hoes his injury heals soon. But before she heads for home, she plans on stopping by café Récompense since she has some treats for Amy. As she approaches the café, she hears the squeals of tires followed by the sound of a thud and the cries of a cat. Madoka rushes over to where the cat lays injured and cries out its name repeatedly. She prays for it not to die.
Scene 8 (Madoka)
Madoka can't believe what she's heard. Amy was going to die even though just the other day she had been lazing in front of the café. She was so cute, so why did she have to die when she never did anything wrong? Madoka's eyes well with tears as Kyubey approaches her. She remembers what Kyubey had said and asks him if it's true he'll grant her any one wish. She asks if it would be possible to save Amy's life. Kyubey says that would be nothing so long as she agrees to the contract to become a magical girl in exchange. Madoka cries out "Please, Kyubey! Save it, Amy's life!"

Day 4

Scene 9 (Sayaka)
Sayaka, Madoka, and Hitomi greet each other good morning as they meet up on their way to school. Sayaka pretends to be surprised to find Madoka didn't oversleep today, causing Madoka to once more tell her not to tease. Sayaka reminds them of how oddly Madoka seemed to be acting by asking them what they would wish for, when she's interrupted by a meowing sound. It's Amy, and her injuries seemed to have healed up completely. Sayaka and Hitomi ask Madoka what happened with Amy but she just nervously laughs in response and tells them it was nothing. Sayaka thinks she's acting weird again.
Scene 10 (Madoka)
Mami welcomes Madoka into her apartment. She introduces herself, explaining Kyubey had told her about Madoka. Mami offers her her choice of tea or coffee to help put her at ease. Madoka picks tea and Mami goes to the kitchen for a moment. Madoka is glad that Mami seems to be a kind senior, but she finds the idea of risking your life to fight witches daunting. Mami returns and offers her some cake from café Récompense to go with it. Madoka digs in, eager to see a witch fight but Mami tells her to hold on.

Mami welcomes Madoka into her apartment. She introduces herself, explaining Kyubey had told her about Madoka. Mami offers her her choice of tea or coffee to help put her at ease. Madoka picks tea and Mami goes to the kitchen for a moment. Once she steps away, she calls out telepathically to Mabayu, who was busy reading manga up in the loft. She asks who the other girl is, so Mami explains it's Madoka Kaname, the latest magical girl to contract with Kyubey. She had made her wish to save a cat. Mabayu is surprised, but figures it can't be helped. Mami considers her a valuable friend so she had to welcome her properly.

Suddenly, Mabayu finds herself floating in a void filled with swirling colors in endless patterns. Somehow, she's viewing a familiar film but it's not one she's ever seen before. Could it be because she had lost her memory of the first loop? She hears Madoka's voice respond in the affirmative. When Mabayu guesses at her name, she finds herself facing someone familiar but unknown to her. The being, who she can only guess to be Madoka somehow, tells Mabayu her hope will be burned in at the end of this film.

Scene 11 (Madoka)
Mami and Madoka look around the footbridge, following the signs of Mami's soul gem as it leads the way. Madoka notices a weird tear in the air and draws Mami's attention to it. Sure enough, it's a witch's barrier. The two girls enter and look around however there is only a familiar.

Mami warns Madoka that familiars are just as likely to harm everyone in town as witches are. She tells Madoka to follow her lead as she transforms with Madoka transforming as well. Madoka follows Mami's lead as she directs her to dodge right then left, following it with a jump. Mami shoots at the familiar as they leap around it in all directions. After the jump, Madoka shoots an arrow down, destroying the familiar with ease. The barrier dissipates and Mami congratulates Madoka on a job well done. Madoka says it's thanks to Mami's advice she was able to do so well. Thanks to her magical girl abilities she found it easy to track the enemie's movements. Mami promises her she'll do it with ease soon enough and asks if she'd like to continue to work alongside her to keep the peace in the town. Madoka cheerfully agrees.

Day 6

Scene 12 (Sayaka)
Kazuko Saotome tells the class to head to the restroom for one last break before they head back. Madoka tells her friends she'll be right back as Sayaka Miki follows suit, leaving Hitomi Shizuki behind, warning them not to be late. Sayaka is bored of the field trip since it's the same one each year, however Madoka claims to enjoy it much to Sayaka's disbelief. The two are suddenly enveloped in an odd and rather eerie gray barrier. Sayaka remembers the same thing happened to them last year. Madoka claims to have found the restroom and points Sayaka towards the exit. Sayaka starts to move but Madoka hangs back. She tells Sayaka she forgot her bag and needs to run back to the factory real quick. She takes off, leaving Sayaka behind. Sayaka then wonders if Madoka even had a bag to begin with.
Scene 13 (Kyoko)

Kyoko arrives at the factory to harvest the familiar she had left there. She's surprised to find Mami is here and goes right up to her. She greets her in a friendly manner but Mami is curt with her reply. She has no time for reminiscing when there's a barrier nearby. Kyoko doesn't really care since she seems to be doing so well with her new friends in Mitakihara. She reminds Mami this is her territory and threatens to not hold back if she wants to mess with her. Mami is more concerned about her juniors who are trapped in the barrier, but Kyoko reiterates her earlier response of not giving a care. If they end up injured, then that just means she'll get a bigger share in the rewards. She takes off, leaving Mami speechless.

Scene 14 (Madoka)

Madoka stares in awe at the witch that was lurking unbeknown to them in the factory. She worriedly calls out telepathically to Mami to let her know, but Mami's hands are tied and she won't be able to come assist Madoka. The witch takes advantage of her distraction and strikes at Madoka, who yelps in pain. At this rate she might not last until Mami can arrive. Kyubey calls out to Madoka. He reminds her Sayaka also has the qualities to be a magical girl. If she can't get Mami's help, maybe they can have Sayaka make a contract. Madoka shakes her head at the suggestion. Sayaka had said she wanted to fulfill her dreams by her own hands, so she can't let Sayaka make a contract. Madoka is still a magical girl at the end of the day, so she should be able to fight even without Mami by her side. The witch bellows in rage and attacks Madoka, mercilessly inflicting multiple injuries on her. Kyubey tries to reason with Madoka by telling her she can't do it alone. Something flashes and a loud sound is heard, but Madoka doesn't have the faintest idea what it was she heard.

A camouflaged Mabayu watches as Madoka encounters the witch that was lurking unbeknown to them in the factory. Madoka worriedly calls out telepathically to Mami to let her know, but Mami's hands are tied and she won't be able to come assist her. Mabayu can't believe she wandered into a barrier like that, which means she won't be able to help Mami with Kyoko. She hears Madoka give several cries of pain and begins to panic. Madoka has only barely made her contract, so she's not strong enough to fight a witch on her own. But she can't just leave her there like that. Mabayu determines to do what it takes and calls out telepathically to Mami, who immediately picks up on what she wants and agrees. She leaves it in Mabayu's hands and goes silent. Mabayu turns off her camouflage and immediately gets close. She tells Madoka she has no time to explain because she needs to look into her eyes right now. Madoka hesitates at first, but Mami also chimes in to ask her to do it. If Mami says it's ok, then Madoka will do it.

Mabayu looks into her eyes, but the film quickly jump past the cow witch and into the far future. She sees the city of Mitakihara laid to waste and ruin as overhead the witch known as Walpurgisnacht cackles eerily. Mabayu somehow knows the witch's name as the film ends. Madoka asks if she's ok as Mabayu comes to, but Mabayu doesn't know what to say. The witch attacks Madoka once more. Mabayu tells Madoka to dodge to the right, then immediately front and back. At first confused, Madoka does as told land narrowly misses the witch's next attacks. Mabayu instructs Madoka to shoot arrows while leaping to the side. Mabayu darts in and lands the final blow with her scissors, slicing up the cow witch once and for all. The barrier dissipates, leaving Mabayu breathing a heavy sigh of relief. Somehow she was able to manage without Mami's help. Madoka thanks Mabayu for her help. Mabayu introduces herself, calling herself Mami's chief of staff.

Later that evening, Mabayu and Mami were in Mami's loft discussing the vision Mabayu saw when she looked into Madoka's eyes. Mami repeats the ominous sounding name of the witch, "Walpurgisnacht", as she asks Mabayu if she's sure that's what happened. Mabayu knows it's going to happen for certain, but she's not sure of the date. Her best guess is the witch should make its appearance in about a month or so. She'd never been able to see so far into the future before. Mami can't see how that's possible, but as Kyubey points out, magic has immeasurable possibilities. Kyubey wouldn't be surprised if some sort of irregularity were to occur due to Madoka's unknown magical ability. Mami thinks it's unusual for Kyubey to be so vague, but both she and Mabayu are in agreement on their next course of action: they'll need to recruit more people to fight with and this time they won't be so picky.

Day 10

(All side stories for this day are identical to the scenes in episode 10, with the exception of scene 15 and 20)

Scene 15 (Homura)

Amy the cat meows at Homura as she approaches the school gates. Homura timidly approaches the cat and it purrs as she pets it. She notices it doesn't have a collar, and figures it must be a stray. She tells Amy it's her first day at her new school. Amy begins to meow incessantly at her. Homura guesses it's hungry so she offers it some of her cookies. As it eats the treats, she compares herself to the cat. Both of them were so small and all alone. Having finished eating, Amy talks off. Homura hopes she's able to get along with her classmates and wonders if they can be friends, but she's still so worried about it.

Scene 16 (Homura)

Kazuko Saotome introduces the new student to the class. Homura fidgets nervously as she introduces herself while the teacher writes her name on the board. The teacher explains to the class about Homura's long hospitalization due to her heart condition and how she'll need a little extra help in getting familiarized with school again. Homura is getting anxious.

Scene 17 (Homura)

Several of the female students swarm around Homura's desk during their class break. They ask her what seems like a hundred questions: where did she go to school before, what clubs was she in, is it hard to braid her hair every morning, and so on. Homura soon feels overwhelmed and doesn't know how to answer. Thankfully, Madoka comes to her rescue. She reminds Homura she needs to stop by the nurse's office and asks if she knows how to get there. Since Homura clearly doesn't and she's the nurse's aid for this class, she'll show her the way. She apologizes to the group as she informs them Homura has to take medicine for her heart during class breaks. The girls groan and the group breaks up as the two step into the hall.

Madoka apologizes to Homura for the other girls' behavior, but it was only because they were so excited to get a new student, which was such a rarity. Homura timidly thanks her, so Madoka cheerfully tells her not to be worried since they were classmates. She introduces herself and asks Homura to call her by her first name. Homura isn't sure at first but Madoka insists it's fine. Madoka asks if she can call Homura by her first name as well. Homura has never had anyone call her by her first name before and glances down, calling her name weird. Madoka insists it's not since her name can be read as "flame", so it's like she's supposed to flare up passionately. In fact, she thinks it sounds cool. Homura looks askance once more as she tells Madoka she doesn't really live up to her name. Hearing this self-derogatory statement causes Madoka to turn on her heel and face Homura. She cheerfully tells Homura that's such a waste. Since she was blessed with such a great name, she should become cool to match it. Homura looks down, blushing slightly. As if she were cool? No, she can't do that. She could never do that. So why is it she feels a little braver around Madoka?

Scene 18 (Homura)

The teacher calls upon Homura to come up to the front to solve the next math problem. Homura walks up to the board and holds the pen in her hand. Her hand floats in midair, poised just above the board but it doesn't move. She doesn't know what to do and she doesn't know the answer to the problem. She stares at the math question but she has no idea what to do. As her hand begins to shake, the teacher suddenly remembers she had been out sick for a while. Homura holds back her tears as the teacher tells her to copy the notes from a friend. Homura glumly nods her head and sits back down.

Scene 19 (Homura)

Homura is walking home alone. She remembers Madoka's words about becoming cool but a person like her could never do that. She can't do anything right. All she ever does is make trouble for people and embarrass herself. Is she just going to stay like this forever? A voice in her head suggests it would be better if she just died right now. Homura echoes the sentiment as the voice begins to encourage her to die. She looks up to find herself in a strange world. The sky overhead is filled with red swirls and the landscape is covered with tortured figures crying out. She wonders where she could be as the witch comes seemingly out of nowhere, looming overhead menacingly.

Familiars pour out from beneath the witch's arc. They begin to approach and reach out towards her, causing Homura to yelp in fear.Thankfully, she's rescued as Madoka and Mami arrive in the nick of time, muskets blasting and bow twanging with the projectiles that tear the familiars to pieces.

Madoka assures Homura she's going to be ok as Homura watches in wonder. Kyubey shows up and explains they're magical girls, and they hunt witches. Madoka smiles and asks Homura to not tell anyone else in class about her little secret as she and Mami easily make short work of the familiars and witch. As Homura watches, she thinking to herself how very cool Madoka is.

Scene 20 (Sayaka)
Sayaka and Hitomi are sitting together in the shopping mall's café. Sayaka is complaining to Hitomi about how difficult Madoka has been to get along with lately. Hitomi teasingly asks her if she isn't sulking, but Sayaka insists it's not like that. Madoka was the kind of person you didn't want to leave on her own, but lately it's like the atmosphere around her has changed. Like she's toughened up all of a sudden. Hitomi shrugs; it's true Madoka suddenly started asking about their dreams out of the blue. She wonders if maybe Madoka was just thinking about what she wanted to be in the future. That shouldn't be such a surprise since now is the time for them to start thinking about such things. Sayaka tells Hitomi she'd rather enjoy her youth while she still can. Hitomi asks her how long she plans on keeping up that kind of talk. Noticing how late it is, Hitomi runs off to another one of her hundreds of extracurricular lessons (tea practice this time). Hitomi bids Sayaka goodbye and hurries off. Sayaka figures she can just go to her usual place for a CD or something.

She sets out through the shopping mall when she suddenly finds herself enveloped in darkness. The darkness soon dissipates, revealing a bizarre landscape filled with traffic signs and other items. Sayaka thinks she may have gotten lost again. However, this place gives her the creeps so she starts looking for an exit. A familiar finds her and immediately attacks. Sayaka cries out in pain and confusion. She doesn't remember walking into a haunted house. The familiar attacks again as Sayaka screams.

Homura is walking home alone. She's busy mentally kicking herself for being useless, but even if she weren't she wouldn't have noticed the camouflaged Mabayu trailing behind her. She calls out telepathically to Mami and Madoka, informing them she's found a new magical girl candidate. Homura was so distracted she ended up walking into a witch's barrier. The sky overhead is filled with red swirls and the landscape is covered with tortured figures crying out. She wonders where she could be as the witch comes seemingly out of nowhere, looming overhead menacingly. Familiars pour out from beneath the witch's arc. They begin to approach and reach out towards her, causing Homura to yelp in fear.

Mabayu watches as the familiars begin to swarm around Homura. Mabayu doesn't know what to do. She shouldn't really reveal herself without Mami's approval first, and this girl is just a candidate. She's not even a full-fledged magical girl. Thankfully, she doesn't have to make a decision as Madoka and Mami arrive in the nick of time.

Mabayu watches from the void. She realizes Homura hasn't made a contract yet, so this must be the first loop, the film that disappeared from her memories.

At Mami's apartment, Homura asks Madoka if they always have to fight those things. Madoka isn't so sure about always and informs her Mami is the real veteran. She only just made her contract with Kyubey last week. Mami encouragingly tells Madoka her performance is much improved from before. Madoka giggles in a slightly embarrassed manner as she hears the compliment. Homura asks her if she doesn't get scared. Madoka tells her it's not that it doesn't bother her and of course she gets scared too, but the more witches they slay then the more people they can save. So she thinks it's worth the effort. Mami reminds her they'll have to get her fully train and ready before Walpurgisnacht comes. Mabayu watches the scene while camouflaged. She hopes Homura will be able to join them too.

Mami reminds her they'll have to get her fully train and ready before Walpurgisnacht comes. Homura asks them about Walpurgisnacht. Madoka herself only learned of it recently. But in the not-too-distant future, a very dangerous witch will appear in Mitakihara. Their goal is to work together to defeat Walpurgisnacht.

Mami turns to Homura and relates what Kyubey had said. Homura has the necessary qualities to be a magical girl. If she has a wish and is ready to fight witches, they would love it if she became one of them.

Day 11

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 11).

Scene 22 (Madoka)
Madoka greets Hitomi a good morning as they meet up on their way to school. Hitomi notes that Homura has also joined them this morning and greets her as well, with Homura shyly returning the greeting. Madoka explains she walked with Homura on their way home yesterday, so she invited her to join her on the way to school as well. Homura apologizes for her presence but Hitomi assures her there's no need. She looks forward to getting to know one another. Hitomi apologizes for changing the subject, but she needed to ask Madoka if she'd heard anything from Sayaka. It seems Sayaka's mother has been asking about her because she never came home last night. The last time she was seen was when she was telling Hitomi she was going to go buy a CD when they parted. After that, apparently there was a robbery at the same shopping mall so she was worried something might have gone wrong. Homura ventures to ask if this Sayaka is a friend of theirs. Madoka explains they always hang out together so she doesn't know what could have happened.
Scene 23 (Mami)
Mami, Madoka, and Homura meet up at the shopping mall's café before they head out on a witch hunting expedition. Mami asks if Homura is ready. Homura realizes she didn't do any preparations and offers to run home and get some golf clubs from there. Mami gives a small chuckle at the notion and assures Homura she'll be fine because Mami will be there to keep an eye on them. Homura timidly ask if someone like her could really become a magical girl. Madoka encourages Homura by telling her she can already see her fighting off a witch. She shows Homura her notebook where she's already drawn Homura's transformation. Homura gets a bashful look as she admires the drawing. The Homura in the notebook looked so cool, nothing like the real Homura. Madoka knows she can be just like the drawing. Mami smiles at her junior as she agrees with the sentiment. She could be, if that's what Homura wanted.
Scene 24 (Homura)

Homura points out the familiars flying towards them with a note of fright in her voice. Madoka confidently tells her it'll be ok because she'll protect her. The familiars fly closer and attempt to attack. Homura shrieks once more and drops to the ground as Madoka aims her bow at them and fires. Homura watches as Madoka takes off to do battle with the bizarre yet terrifying creates. She thought Madoka looked incredibly cool, yet it only drove home the fact she would be risking her own life fighting these creatures to save someone else's life. Mami catches up with them easily and dispatches several more of the familiars quickly and with ease. Madoka looks at her with amazement while Mami reminds her they're not done yet. Homura continues watching the dazzling Mami unleash her Tiro Finale on the witch at the center of the barrier. It's rent asunder and the barrier dissipates. Madoka once more praises her senpai's incredible display. Imagine what they could accomplish by killing off witches one at a time. Mami explains she knew how it would go from the start. She turns to Homura and asks what she thought of it. Homura looks at them with unabashed admiration as she tells Mami how cool the two of them looked. However, Homura thought quite differently when it came to someone like her.

Day 15

Kyubey warns the girls the witch is going to come out now. Homura shrieks in fear but once more Madoka cheerfully assures her it's ok. With a serious look on her face, Mami tells Madoka she'll take care of this witch. Madoka nods in understanding and hangs in the back, protecting Homura and supporting Mami with her arrows. Madoka shoots off a plethora of arrows at the witch, seemingly destroying it. She turns and smiles at Homura-chan, cheerfully asking if she saw her performance. Just as she's about to assure Homura she's fine, Homura gives her a terrified look and points behind her as she screams out Madoka's name. Confused, Madoka turns just in time to see the witch transform into its second stage and come looming up behind her, teeth at the ready inside a grin wide and toothy enough to make a shark envious.

Madoka's eyes widen in fear as she freezes in her tracks. Just as the jaws are about to snap shut on her head, Mami unleashes her Tiro Finale on Charlotte and destroys it.

Back in the hospital, the two magical girls detransform. Madoka looks down trembling. That was too close. With a humbled look she thanks Mami sincerely. Mami smiles and tells her it was nothing. They knew the witch would be able to change forms like that. Madoka cheers up. She knows with Mami by her side she can fight with peace of mind. Homura pipes up, shyly explaining she can't, not anymore. Madoka looks at Homura with surprise.

Scene 25 (Homura)

Kyubey warns the girls the witch is going to come out now. Homura shrieks in fear but once more Madoka cheerfully assures her it's ok. With a serious look on her face, Mami tells Madoka she'll take care of this witch. Madoka nods in understanding and hangs in the back, protecting Homura and supporting Mami with her arrows. Homura looks down sadly. Once more she's followed along on a witch hunt but she still couldn't make up her mind to become a magical girl. All she's doing is causing trouble for Madoka and Mami by slowing them down. She knows she has to make a decision soon but there's a reason she can't make up her mind. Homura pipes up, shyly explaining she can't, not anymore. Madoka looks at Homura with surprise.

Scene 26 (Homura)
Homura and Madoka meet late in the evening at the construction site. Homura explains how she's been physically weak ever since she was little so she's grown a bit of a complex about it. She had heard becoming a magical girl would cure that so she really had considered making a contract with Kyubey. She promises she's not lying, and yet... Madoka asks her if she's scared and tells her it can't be helped because that's just the way it is for magical girls. Homura says it's not like that. Madoka and Mami are fighting for their lives, but Homura feels it wouldn't matter if she got better because it wouldn't matter if she died. She's always too busy worrying about herself, and calls it really pathetic. She could never be as cool as Madoka or Mami. That's the reason why she can't.

Madoka looks at her with caring concern. She never wanted to bother Homura with all of this and for that she's sorry. But Homura doesn't have to worry anymore because Madoka will protect the happiness of people just like her. That's why she became a magical girl. So just leave the peace of this town to her. Homura's eyes well up with tears.

Day 16

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 16).

Scene 27 (Homura)
Homura is silently walking to school alone. She wonders if turning down the contract was the right thing to do. But she's sure she would only slow them down so she can't be around Madoka anymore. As if on cue, Madoka catches up to her and happily greets her good morning. Startled, Homura can only stutter as she begins to ask her why. Madoka doesn't get it. Homura reminds her she didn't make the contract so they're not together anymore. Madoka just smiles and tells her she doesn't care about all that because she and Homura are friends. Homura is left speechless as Madoka prompts her to hurry up because Hitomi is waiting for them. Homura nods and follows along.
Scene 28 (Madoka)

HN Elly darts around as Madoka attempts to take it down with her arrows. She tries to reassure herself by reminding herself that the people of the town are depending on her to get rid of all the witches. She takes careful aim and lets loose a torrent of arrows that tear the witch apart, taking its barrier with it. Mami congratulates Madoka on defeating the witch entirely on her own. Madoka thanks Mami, but she looks despondent. Mami gives her a quizzical look and Madoka's eyes turn to the victim of the witch. Among the peoples dazed by the witch's kiss stands Hitomi. Mami suggests they call an ambulance for the witch's victims as soon as possible. Having done that, they step out from the abandoned building and walk along the footbridge.

Mami asks her if she's unhappy because she wasn't able to convince Homura to join their group. Madoka shakes her head. She explains one of the witch's victims was her friend Hitomi. Mami gives her an understanding look and tries to reassure Madoka by pointing out how they were able to find her right away before she could suffer any serious injuries. Madoka still looks sad however. As true as it is that Hitomi was saved by her getting there in time, it's possible she was too late without realizing it. She had another friend named Sayaka, but one day she suddenly stopped coming to school. No one in her family had heard anything from her so they've assumed she ran away from home. Maybe she was attacked by a witch the way Hitomi was today. Mami gives the situation some thought. She's not sure what could have happened to her friend for sure, since any bodies trapped in a witch's barrier are unlikely to ever be found again. But there is one thing she knows for sure: today Madoka was able to save her other friend from becoming a victim. This is an undeniable fact so she shouldn't blame herself any more than she should. Madoka nods, but she seems no cheerier than before.

Day 17

Mami bids some café customers goodbye as they leave. Mabayu apologizes for having Mami help her out at Récompense, but Mami doesn't mind at all. If anything, she'd been wanting to try on the maid uniform. Sakie walks over to Mami and lets her know they'll get started once things at the café settle down a bit. Mami nods enthusiastically. Mabayu asks if she has something planned. Apparently Mami is going to learn how to make a cake. She so pleased she was able to see the actual recipes Récompense uses for herself! It's not often she gets a chance to do something like this and she thanks Mabayu for inviting her. Mabayu is glad, dismissing it as nothing more than the café being short-staffed. Mabayu doesn't know if this is the time for this, but she asks if Mami is still worried about Homura. If only she could see a future hwere she was able to reassure Homura more. Mami asks what she's talking about, since her future vision always shows her the best possible future. Mabayu reluctantly admits it's true, so Mami encourages her to think more positively. It's it better to have a select few friends, so it might work out better for her. Mabayu brightens up, asking if she means herself. Mami smiles cheerfully. Mabayu is her elite shadow commander, isn't she? If they three of them work together, then surely they'll be able to accomplish their goal. Sakie calls out to Mami, so that must mean she's ready to show her how to bake. Mami promises she'll be right back and leaves. Mabayu thinks if Mami, Madoka and herself are able to work together, then maybe this peaceful everyday life will be here forever.

Day 20

(There are no scenes in the main story for Day 20).

Scene 29 (Homura)

Mami smiles pleasantly as she greets some customers entering café Récompense. The customers are Homura, Madoka and Hitomi. Homura and Madoka's widen in shock as when they recognize their waitress. Madoka immediately begins to gush over how well the maid uniform suits Mami. Mami thanks her and says she hasn't seen her here before. Since Madoka had heard Mami was helping out here, she decided to stop by. Hitomi asks if Madoka how she knows her. Madoka explains (with a bit of lying) how Mami is a senior at their school and how she's been learning how to bake from her. Hitomi relaxes since this explains why Madoka would sometimes leave straight after school. Mami compliments Madoka's fast learning abilities so she's a worthwhile pupil. Hitomi would love to join them for a bite one of these days, as would Homura and Madoka too someday. Mami hands Hitomi the cake she'd ordered as a congratulatory gift for her friend who was being discharged from the hospital. Hitomi thanks her and takes the cake. Homura looks at Madoka. She doesn't know why, but both Hitomi and Madoka look somewhat sad.

Day 32

Mami, Mabayu and Madoka sit in Mami's apartment, listening as the news announces an emergency evacuation order due to abnormal weather. The day of reckoning has come at least and thanks to Mabayu's future vision they were able to gather resources ahead of time. Mami praises Madoka for having improved so much in the span of time since they got to know each other. If they work together, they can defeat Walpurgisnacht. Mami is sure it's meant to be. Mabayu nods and transforms and looks into Mami's eyes.

In the vision, she sees Walpurgisnacht as it successfully attacks Madoka. Madoka cries out in pain while Mami rushes to her side only to be struck down as well. Kyubey calls out their names but it's no use. Their magic won't even reach the witch. Mami tries to assure her. Even if they're struggling now, there's still the future Mabayu saw. She turns to Mabayu, who is about to burst into tears. She admits the future she saw showed them unable to defeat Walpurgisnacht. Just as she's about to continue, she cries out. Mami hurriedly asks her what's wrong as Madoka also expresses words of concern. Mabayu's soul gem is at its limit. She apologizes to her teammates as she finishes revealing the truth the vision revealed to her: Mabayu, them, and all the others are destined to eventually become witches. Mabayu cries out as she begins to transform into a witch.

Mami watches in terror as she repeats Mabayu's name. She turns to Kyubey to confirm what she said. Kyubey admits it's true. The witches they've been defeating were all originally magical girls. When hope turns to despair and their soul gems become cloudy, magical girls become witches. Mami can't begin to process what she just heard. All this time, Mabayu, Madoka, and so many other magical girls, all this time she was just encouraging them to become witches. Madoka pleads with her to listen. There's no way she could have known. Mami apologizes to Mabayu for making her suffer alone all this time but she's with her now. Mami's soul gem is also past its limit as Madoka cries out for it to stop.

The vision ends with Mabayu standing in Mami's apartment. Mami is smiling as she awaits the results of the vision. She asks Mabayu how it went but Mabayu can only stare and doesn't respond. Mami tries asking her again, causing Mabayu to come out of her trance. She pretends everything will be fine, it'll be a great victory against this terrible witch. She was just so stunned at the fight that she couldn't respond at first. Madoka looks at Mami with hope in her eyes. Mami promises her the end result is a victory resulting in them protecting the town so they better get started! Mabayu forces a cheer.

Mabayu, who had been rewatching her memories of the original timeline, realizes she had been lying to Mami and Madoka just like she lied to Homura when she had looked into her eyes that time. Homura had asked her if she had seen the future where she was finally able to save Madoka. Mabayu had lied and told her she could see it all perfectly. They would be able to stop Mami's outburst, she had claimed, and would finally see the day beyond Walpurgisnacht. She hadn't been able to tell Homura the truth at the time, and she couldn't tell Mami the truth then either. But still, maybe it was a good idea because the future can't be changed, and her sins will never vanish now. Walpurgisnacht will prevail once more and despair would surely come after. The most she could hope for was to alongside her cherished friends when they were defeated in the end. Madoka's voice tells Mabayu it'll be ok. Mabayu looks to find that angelic-looking Madoka floating beside her. Ultimate Madoka tells her such a sad ending won't come because her prayers are the gentle magic that saved her mother's life. Mabayu says Madoka's name questioningly.

Scene 30 (Homura)
Homura waits with the others in the gym serving as an evacuation center during the storm. She looks at the winds beating furiously against the windows and hopes Amy is ok. Madoka had earlier told her never to go outside on a really stormy day. Maybe today was the day she was referring to. She looks up the meaning of "Walpurgis Night". Apparently it's an event widely celebrated throughout Europe. It Germany, it's called "Walpurgisnacht Hexennacht" which literally means "Witches' Night". On the night of this festival it's said there is a witch's feast. Magical girls fight witches. If that's the case, then that means the night of the witches' gathering means today's fight is...

The battle has already commenced. Walpurgisnacht successfully attacks Madoka, who cries out in pain while Mami rushes to her side only to be struck down as well. Suddenly, hundreds of film reels filled with memories of things that have yet to happen fill her vision.

Mabayu, who is watching her memories from the first timeline, wonders what's going on. She watches as:

  • Cold-faced Homura introduces herself to the class
  • Madoka and Sayaka stand trembling while holding an injured Kyubey. Around them Gertrud's barrier is beginning to materialize. As Mami begins to transform, she promises she'll explain everything. But first, Mami hopes they don't mind while she wraps up a bit of work.
  • Up on the school's roof, Sayaka looks down through the chain link fence as Madoka sits nearby. Why them, when there are probably people who would give anything for a chance like this.

All of them were memories of things that she's never seen before. She asks Ultimate Madoka what this is. Madoka nods knowingly as she looks at her. This is her future, Madoka's future, if she never gives up the hope of what is to come. More scenes flash before Mabayu's eyes:

  • Mami crying alone in a witch's barrier, telling herself she has to act like a proper senpai in front of the others. She just knew she was no good after all.
  • Sayaka stands before Kyosuke in his hospital room. She cries out, "Miracles and magic do exist!".
  • Kyoko standing in an alleyway. She's telling Sayaka she's got this wrong from the get go. Hasn't she ever heard of the food chain? Shouldn't they have taught her that in school? Witches eat weak humans. And in turn, magical girls eat those witches.
  • Homura tells Madoka not to treat herself like she doesn't matter. She should think of all the people who consider her precious. Homura grabs Madoka by the shoulders as she begs her to stop being such a fool. There were so many people who would grieve her if she died.
  • Kyubey sits on a shelf above Madoka's bed. She's sitting with her knees drawn in, a vacant expression on her face. Kyubey asks Madoka if she knows what the word "entropy" means.
  • Oktavia slams dozens of train wheels into Kyoko, who takes the brunt of the attack. Madoka calls out Kyoko's name, but Kyoko manages to stand. Despite her slightly heavy breathing, Kyoko assures Madoka she's fine. She's not even breaking a sweat yet. Kyoko gives a pained look as she picks her spear back up. She tells Madoka to just keep calling out to Sayaka.

Mabayu begs for it to stop, tears welling in her eyes. How could this future happen? Homura was just trying to save Madoka and yet the only thing she ends up with was too much. Ultimate Madoka also knows what she saw. Nothing but failure and tragedy, over and over and over again. Everything they'd gone through had been hard and painful. Mabayu looks at her incredulously. How did she know that? What even was she? Ultimate Madoka tells her she was summoned from the future that lays beyond this film. More scenes flash by:

  • Madoka stares at Walpurgisnach as it floats above the ruins of Mitakihara. Homura lays in the rubble, injured and at the point of utter despair. Madoka tells her she's sorry, but she's going to become a magical girl. Kyubey asks Madoka what is the wish she will pay for with her soul. Madoka takes a deep breathe as she's suddenly bathed in light and says, "I wish to erase all witches before they are born. All the witches in all the universes, both past and future. With my own hands! All those who have fought against witches, who believed in hope as magical girls, I don't want to see them cry. I want them to be smiling to the very end. If any rule or law stands in the way of that, I will destroy it. I will rewrite it. That is my prayer... That is my wish. Now, grant my wish Incubator!!"
  • Ultimate Madoka faces down her own witch form. Her wish was to erase all witches, and if that prayer really came true, then even she should have no reason to despair, ever! She lets loose her bow and arrow.
  • Mabayu watches as the past is being rewritten. Was it a time paradox? And all the girls they had invited previously, everyone throughout time were being saved before they became witches, before they could fall completely into despair. Was this the power of Madoka's wish? Madoka smiles and tells Mabayu this was not all her doing alone. Homura was able to arrive at this future not because of Madoka, Sayaka, Mami, or Nagisa, but because Mabayu never abandoned everyone's destiny. Because they were there for her and because they never gave up hope. Her causality-reversing magic was called forth by her prayers. Ultimate Madoka thanks Mabayu. Mabayu can't believe it was thanks to her. She asks if this means she won't have to despair. Madoka tells her it's true because her prayers are connected to this future. She invites her to finish viewing the rest of the lost film together with her.

Mabayu stands in the ruins of Mitakihara. Her eyes are closed and she's smiling to herself. As she opens them, she realizes she can change the future, so there's no reason to despair. She takes out her golden scissors.

Mami asks what she's doing. Mabayu tells her it was a lie when they said they wouldn't be able to change the future after viewing it. From the beginning, her magic was the ability to change the future. Her future vision shows her a film with a future in which her vision of the future is already woven in. So if she erases her memories of despair, then the future will turn into hope! Mabayu proceeds to cut the film of her own memories with a snip.

Mami cries out Mabayu's name but it's too late. Mabayu giggles to herself. Now that she's cut out the memory of the film she saw in Mami's eyes, their future has returned to one of uncertainty. The outcome of their battle against Walpurgisnacht has not been decided yet. Mami asks if this is what she meant when she said she saw a future but Mabayu only shrugs. Maybe she was lying, but she has no way of knowing now that she's already forgotten all about it. Mabayu apologizes, except Mami only smiles back at her. She knew she was lying before because Mabayu is a terrible liar. Behind them Walpurgisnacht cackles eerily once more.

Homura calls out to Madoka, but Madoka tells her she shouldn't have come. Homura couldn't help it since she was worried about Madoka. Mabayu approaches them and directs Madoka to cover them from here. Madoka attempts to protest at first but Mabayu assures her she and Mami will be able to handle Walpursgisnacht. What she needs is for Madoka to stay back and protect Homura. Mami tells her not to worry because it's one of Mabayu's prophecies, so she should leave this to her seniors. Madoka promises to do her best. Mami turns to Mabayu and asks if she's ready. Mabayu nods and the two of them leap into battle. Mami shoots with her rifles while Mabayu slices with her scissors. They do battle for the sake of a different fate. Walpurgisnacht trembles as it takes damage from their attacks. Mabayu can feel Mami's movements in her hand and Mami knows exactly what Mabayu is doing. Mabayu leaps forward and takes a hit meant for Mami. Mabayu tells her it's ok as Mami looks her over. In reality she wasn't ok at all, but tells Mami it's all up to her to finish this off. Mami nods and goes back into battle. This is the result of the time they spent together, this last bit of glimmering hope. She calls out to Mami to do the last attack. Mami thanks Mabayu one last time before unleashing the most powerful Tiro Finale she could. Walpurgisnacht takes damage, but it's not enough as it attacks back with overwhelming force. Both Mami and Mabayu yell out in pain. Then the sound of shattering soul gems.

Film 1

Day 1

Mabayu sits up like a shot. She knew it, Homura made a contract with Kyubey. The future will go according to the film Madoka had shown her. In order to get to the future that she saw she'll have to make sure of some things. She hurries out the door.

On the way to school she finds Kyubey. Kyubey is surprised to find her up so early, however Mabayu has several questions for him. She wants to make sure when was the last time they spoke. Kyubey saws it was when he and Mami went into Récompense. So she ended up contracting with him when he went to her mother's hospital. He surmises it's been some time since then. She then asks him if there's anyone else besides him and Mami who are aware she's a magical girl. As far as he can tell, no one else knows. As Kyubey recalls the moment when she decided to contract,

Mabayu transforms and snips the film of his memories. Kyubey blinks for a few seconds then looks up at Mabayu. He asks if she's a magical girl but Mabayu makes it a point to ignore him and go about her business. She thinks if there's anyone else who would know she's a magical girl.

Mabayu heads home and jumps under the covers. She thinks of all the irreplaceable times she spent with Mami. Memories of a past that will never return to her again. She prays her future leads to their future, and that her sins may be forgiven by hope. She says Mami's name once more before bidding her goodbye and cutting the film of her memories.

She finds herself floating in a void filled with stars and galaxies. Countless worlds swirl about as she faces someone familiar but unknown to her. Mabayu asks herself why she lost her memories but the benevolent being before her assures her she doesn't have to lose hope. Because her hope for the future....
