The Doppel of selection.
Its form is a sodegarami.
The master of this emotion proudly believes that its ability exists to reveal and capture evil, but in truth, it is a Doppel that seeks 6 human sacrifices to plunge into the depths in its master’s place. No matter how well an adversary hides, its lantern head will expose all beneath the light of day, and its three-pronged claws will drag them down to the bottom of the swamp. The more targets it drags into the swamp, the more powerful this Doppel becomes, but that power is sure to descend upon its master as a calamity one day. Nevertheless, this Doppel continues to desperately store up power for the sake of eliminating those who would do harm to its master.

The following is a summary posted on 4chan's /pmmm/ general by Summary Anon. [Continued from Green Jasper Diviners] The village is in financial crisis since the elder who is also in charge of the money is dead, and she squandered most of the wealth via bad investments. Although she still has some good shares, a few months are needed for them to be acquired. Chiharu remembered a drama she loved where the Shogun disguised himself and helped poor villages to find their charm and rejuvenate them, and thus she roped in Shizuka and Sunao to help. The two are glad for a change since most of the Tokime side tribes are unwilling to believe their tales of magical girls. After a tour of the village with Shizuka and Sunao guiding her, Chiharu realized how arrogant she was before, and finds the village full of charm: its clear river with lively fishes, the beautiful mountain with abundant fruits and wild vegetables and the kind and helpful villages. After further discussion with Shizuka and Sunao, the three proposed that the village should try a hand in tourism. The trio's sincerity is backed by Shizuka's mom's adventurous spirit, so Chiharu's mom agrees to the plan. But first, they do a trial run with the family of her husband's sister. Though it is pretty messy since everyone is new, the beautiful landscape and the interesting activities of harvesting fruits, wild vegetation and fishing, backed with good rural cooking with kind and helpful hosts gave the family a good time. They enjoyed the trip while giving useful feedback and suggestions on improvement. Chiharu's uncle even pointed out that the big fruit the village has is unique since it can only be grown in that environment. They would love to visit again, and left after staying the night and enjoying the hot springs. The villagers applaud Chiharu for pointing out the charms of the village which they cannot see since it is part of their life. Chiharu's mom begin writing a proposal to the Japanese Tourism Board to apply for funds to renovate the village for tourism, and the villagers also regain vigor and start working in both the tourism sector and by finding jobs outside the village. Shizuka finds Chiharu sulking, and offers to hear her out. Chiharu initially has trouble putting her emotions into words, unable to remember exactly why she was upset. Shizuka suggests she should retrace the steps of her day, which would make finding the source a lot easier. Encouraged by her advice, Chiharu tells her that Koichi Todoroki would be impressed. Chiharu begins to look back, and remembers the abnormality starting while she was checking out New Years sales with Sunao in the mall. Despite the large crowd, Chiharu was confident since she could now control her magic ability, only for an overhead announcement to declare the opening of an artisan exhibition. The excited crowd of people started flooding in their direction, which lead to Chiharu becoming nauseated. After the two managed to leave the mall, they went to a shopping district. In one of the stores there, Chiharu spotted a rare first edition badge of Koichi Todoroki, it was identical to the one she always wore, albeit with a glittery finish. When she then tried to enter the store, she was stopped by the store owner, who told her that no minors were allowed inside without a guardian, much to her dismay. Back in the present, Shizuka empathizes with her misfortune, but states that they were at least able to pin point the source of her bad mood, and suggests calling Chiharu’s mother to accompany her to that store. However Chiharu argues that it’s not that simple, as her mother has been working tirelessly for the village and New Years preparations. In a flashback, Chiharu’s mother gives her some money as a gift, before having to leave in order to help out at an art exhibition in the mall. Chiharu asks if she could do anything to help, but her mother politely declines, making her sad. Aside from that, Chiharu enjoyed the New Year, but wonders if her mother has as well, and finally understands why she is feeling this way now. Later at home, Chiharu brings a gift for her mother, an assortment of delicious goods from Kamihama. Her mother tells her that she should have spent all her gift money more carefully, but Chiharu replies that this was careful for her. Her mother decides to let it slide, and finally agrees to relax and enjoy the New Year.
The Tokime Tribe girls are having their annual ghost story competition, and Chika’s story has left behind quite the hurdle to overcome, but Chiharu isn’t afraid, as she had Mitama, a master at horror stories that had agreed to help her. All while remembering Mitama’s important tips, Chiharu starts by saying that she had recently heard a story about how supposedly cursed swimsuits would wash up on the beach with no explanation, and that, she might have found one of then. At the time, she assumed Mitama was playing a dark joke, but as fate would have it, a lone swimsuit was spotted floating towards the shore. Chiharu was frightened by the coincidence, but still decided to do the right thing, and went to retrieve the swimsuit and bring it to the resort Mitama was staying at, where the staff could hopefully find the owner. Unfortunately, Mitama fell for the garment’s allure, and put it on before Chiharu could reach it. For a few seconds, her personality was altered ever so slightly, before suddenly turning back to normal, the swimsuit also mysteriously vanishing. Chiharu then ends the story by asking for the other’s thoughts on the incident. Shizuka had began to get suspicious, but couldn’t quite figure out why. As the others also grow weary, Chiharu nearly breaks character from excitement, but manages to dash focused. Sunao then assumes that Chiharu could be secretly wearing the cursed swimsuit, and Ryoko adds onto the theory by accusing Chiharu for being an imposter, as she normally wouldn’t be this good at telling a scary story. In a flashback, Mitama had reenacted the events of the story with her transformation magic in order to make Chiharu’s retelling more authentic, but it was starting to seem like the plan was too good. The worries of the plan backfiring come to reality as Shizuka suddenly asks Asahi to preform an exorcism on Chiharu, which causes her to panic and drop the act immediately, before telling them everything, After getting the full story, the group all praise Chiharu for her performance, except for Asahi, who suggests that Chiharu saw Mitama’s spirit manifest with the intent of going rampant, giving everyone a fright. Chiharu worriedly asks if Asahi can see spirits of both the living and the dead, but it was soon revealed to just be a spirit medium joke. Chiharu exclaims that she was genuinely terrified for a second, prompting Asahi to feel guilty and apologize to her.
Shizuka and Sunao find Chiharu deeply concentrated in the storybook that Sana created for them. Chiharu gets embarresed upon seeing the other two get sentimental, saying that she was just curious about the story’s continuation. The three read about the bird’s plans of leaving town until the spring, while the tiger and turtle reconcile. Chiharu’s then begins to imagine the story leading up to the bird’s departure. The tiger’s little sister checks up on the bird, who tells her about her plans to migrate, but is worried about how the tiger and turtle would react. Since they were still trying to make up, she wanted to do something for them before she left. The tiger’s sister thinks for a moment, then gets an idea, and after sharing it, the bird agrees to help. The tiger and turtle are called over, initially concerned, before they hear commotion from the other two up in the mountains, prompting them to follow up after them. This is exactly what the bird and young tiger want, as they plan to stage a trap that will make the tiger and turtle work together, and then everyone can have hot pot afterwords for extra luck. However, the tiger and turtle quickly find and bust them, before demanding an explanation. The bird and young tiger meekly admit to everything, making the other two realize that this was all done so they could make up and become friends, causing them to start feeling bad. Since they had both previously heard about the bird’s plans to leave, the two decide to do something themselves, allowing them to get along without realizing it. Some time passes, and it is time for the bird to leave, with everyone in town sad to see her go, but are looking forward to seeing her next season. Once everyone has bid their farewell, the bird takes flight high above the clouds. Although lonely, the bird is full of hope and excitement, wondering what kind of adventures and new life will be awaiting her return. The fantasy ends with Chiharu smiling happily. (Continued from Shizuka’s Tiger costume story.) Upon arriving to the competition, the trio encounter the Promised Blood, and they are not willing to back down either. Shizuka and Yuna have a respectful stand off, but Sunao mistakes it for fighting. As Chiharu watches the two sides, she recounts back to the story, and notices that the two leaders were a lot like the tiger and turtle. Chiharu gets the idea that everyone sharing hot pot afterwords will boost up their friendship twice as much, and announces that she has a good idea. (Continued in Sunao’s Turtle costume story.) |
