Trivia

  • In the Concept Movie's Blurry Still, her name is spelled as Marguerita (マルグリータ maruguriita).
  • Her wish came true at the moment she said "Stop time, thy name is Witch."[unofficial tl.] (時よ止まれ、あなたたちの名は魔女![verification needed] Toki yo, tomare, anata-tachi no namae wa majo!) This mirrors the condition of Faust’s wager with Mephistopheles, so that if Faust ever reaches a moment of such contentment that he wishes the moment lasts forever, then Mephistopheles wins the bet and may take his soul:
German English Japanese
Werd ich zum Augenblicke sagen If to the passing moment e'er I say,
Verweile doch! Du bist so schön! "Oh, linger yet, thou art so fair!" 「時よ止まれ、汝は如何にも美しい!」
Dann magst du mich in Fesseln schlagen, Then cast me into chains you may
Dann will ich gern zugrunde gehn! Then will I die without a care!
Dann mag die Totenglocke schallen, Then may the death-bell sound its call,
Dann bist du deines Dienstes frei, Then art thou from thy service free,
Die Uhr mag stehn, der Zeiger fallen, The clock may stand, the index fall,
Es sei die Zeit für mich vorbei! And time and tide may cease for me!

Etymology

  • "Marguerite" means "pearl," from the Latin margarita, and in French, the word marguerite refers to the ox-eye daisy flower, which is seen alongside Madoka's new Magical Girl form in Walpurgisnacht: Rising. It is a variation on the name "Margarete," the name of Faust's love. After Faust's moral resistance collapses, he would start addressing her with the diminutive "Gretchen" instead, which is often interpreted as denoting her spoiled purity.
