Shi (シィ) is a character in the 2017 mobile game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record. She was revealed to be released as a playable character on F4Samurai's fanfest stream alongside Yu, and was released on May 10th, 2024, alongside Iroha・Kuroe following Yu.

Summary

A magical girl who continues to bear numerous misfortunes. She was orphaned soon after birth and has had a hard life ever since. Because she inadvertently possesses the ability to know the troubles of others, she is tormented by the pain of experiencing those troubles as her own in her dreams.

Doppel Description

Keloid, Shi's doppel

The Doppel of scars. Its form is claws. The master of this emotion tried to wash away the sins she had placed on others with love, but found only emptiness, leaving her own heart empty. This Doppel is deeply connected to its master's empty heart and they are united as one by sharing each other's pain. Also, although she is conscious, she has no intention of acting, and so the Doppel takes the lead in place of its master. The Doppel, whose actions are unrestricted, continues to absorb the accumulation of the wounds that have been inflicted upon its master as well as the burdens of others, all while trying to seek revenge against all of them. Those who receive the memory of the wounds unleashed by this Doppel are broken not just by their bodies, but by their hearts.

Etymology

Shi (シィ, shii) can refer to chinquapin, a tree in the beech family (which also includes oaks and chestnuts).

In a kanji spelling, shi (死) means death.

Trivia

• She is designed by Gekidan Inu Curry, just like Yu.
• Shi notably gains an extra set of arms when she transforms, which she uses to carry her pickaxes with.
• Chinquapins are found in tropical and subtropical East Asia.
• Her original release date could be read as March of 2024. However, for one reason or another, this was ultimately inaccurate.
• It's possible, due to Yu's equine appearance and Shi's pale skin, that the two represent the Pale Rider of the apocalypse, with Yu being the steed and Shi being her rider.
  • Shi in kanji (死) means death, which is the name of the Pale Rider.
    • While the theory is plausible going off of Yu, it is debunked with Shi, lacking any solid themes of death with her abilities and doppel, rather having motifs of dreams and scars.
• A keloid scar is a scar that is covered in collagen, and forms a raised area. They are more common in people of color, and can ache and itch.
• She is the first character to have five Accele Discs.
