Lighthouse (Location)

"This semicircular structure serves to guide the souls of Magical Girls. The light has vanished and logic has been suspended indefinitely within this space."
— Magia Exedra Menu.
The Lighthouse (灯台 Toudai), sometimes also referred to as The Lighthouse Theatre[unofficial tl.] (灯台劇場 Toudai Gekijou)[note 1], is a mysterious place in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra. Name, A-Q and Nighthawk all reside in this place. By travelling through the Window of Memory found in the Lighthouse and collecting Light of Memory, the player can recover Name's memories.
The Lighthouse exists outside of the universe in a place of pure "rules" or "concepts."[1] Here, things exist in their "complete forms," which is explained as a place where "a ball is a ball as long as it can be rolled, regardless of its color or size."[1] The existence of individuals in this conceptual space is "anomalous" and a special phenomenon that could theoretically collapse at any time. The twinkling lights seen from the Lighthouse are not stars, but likely entire universes.[2] The Lighthouse exists in a place where one can "wholly gaze at all the universes."[2]
Residents
Areas
- Main Room:

- A-Q's Art Corner: A corner where A-Q draws the Portraits and stores them on a shelf.
- Nighthawk's Nest: A nest in a cracked wall that Nighthawk has set up without A-Q's knowledge or permission.[3] It acts as the game's shop system, where Name buys the junk Nighthawk collects from around the Lighthouse.
- Magia Box: A "mysterious box" that idly generates rewards such as EXP and A-Q Chips to the player based on their level.

- Fate Weave: A large door that Name can open, acting as the game's gacha system. The door can be opened with a key.
- Window Into Memory: A Window that Name go into and experience the memories of Magical Girls. By doing this, Name can retrieve the Memsparks and light the Lighthouse up.
- Phone: A phone Name can use to call alternate versions of herself, allowing the player to form unions with other players.

- Cracked Wall: Originally a wall with a blue crack that was boarded up with planks, but in Exedra Quest's Prologue a force outside of the Lighthouse breaks the planks and the crack becomes red. It's connected to the game's Exedra Crisis gamemode.
- Dollhouse: A dollhouse made by A-Q to help him design the Memory Windows, but it didn't work as he didn't have enough Kioku. Because it works like a Memory Window, Kioku can materialize inside of it, letting Name talk with them. It acts as the game's homepage customization.
- Puella versus Puella (PvP): A board game that Name and A-Q can play, acting as the game's arena mode.

- Chamber of Light: A place for Name to review Memsparks, acting as a library for the player, displaying story, unlocked music, obtained characters, enemy models, Kioku, and Portraits. In the middle of it is the Celestial Sphere, a cluster of Memsparks that light up the Lighthouse.[4]
- Library: A room said to store a massive collection of books, including the Puella Magi Diarium.[5] It's the only room that hasn't been shown yet - A-Q believes Name shouldn't go in there as it is too important, knowing how reckless she gets.[5]
Glossary
Because of the Lighthouse's function, many abstract concepts materialize physically.
Window Into Memory
A Window Into Memory (記憶の窓 Kioku No Mado) is a portal into a space based on specific Magical Girl memories where Memsparks are scattered. A-Q can't enter them, as their presence would be considered an anomaly, but due to Name's hollow nature she can transform into a Magical Girl the space's memories are tied to, and explore it without problems.[6] The Windows are created and designed by A-Q.[7]
Memsparks
Memsparks (記憶の光) are the crystalized form of a Magical Girl's memories, scattered throughout the Memory Windows.[8] When gathered in the Lighthouse by Name, they help light the whole structure up.
Portraits
Portraits are Memsparks sketched by A-Q,[9] depicting specific moments. A-Q sometimes uses pigments from Witches to make them.[10]
- See also Category:Magia Exedra Portraits for the list of Portraits in Magia Exedra.
Puella Pictura
Puella Pictura are Portraits, progressively restored as Name collects Memsparks.[11] They are in the Chamber of Light, showing off Name's progress.
- See also Category:Magia Exedra Puella Pictura Portraits for the list of Puella Pictura Portraits in Magia Exedra.
Kioku
Kioku (きおく) are the crystalized form of a Magical Girl's wish and emotions, or simply her core.[12] They aid Name in fighting the monsters inside Windows Into Memory and in other cases. Kioku are actually sentient, being able to have their own thoughts, personalities and feelings, because they have the memories of every single version of themself.[13] A-Q explains that their memories of all these versions don't flood in all at once, rather building up as Name collects more Memsparks.[14] In the Lighthouse they usually stay in their purest forms, but when it malfunctioned, they were able to materialize like they do in battle.
Because of how precious the cores of Magical Girls are, if a Memspark gets tampered with, and inside of it her core changes dramatically, the Kioku will collapse and be in extreme danger. If left unchecked, the Kioku could be destroyed and along with it that Magical Girl would be erased in every single universe.
- See also Magia Exedra Kioku for the list of playable Kioku in Magia Exedra.
Darklight
A Darklight (黒い光) is a mysterious force that poses a threat to the precious balance of the Lighthouse. It can directly affect Memsparks, and because Memsparks are recorded memories, tampering with them creates things that shouldn't exist, called Anomalia.
Anomalia
Anomalia (アノマリア) is a term used for things that exist because of Memspark erosion.[15]
Currently the only known Anomalia is the Sayaka Miki seen in Exedra Quest - Chapter 1, she has a warped moral judgement, believing everyone deserves their share of good and bad luck, while unknowingly stealing the good luck from the people she saves. This difference in her core is what caused the Sayaka Miki Kioku to collapse.

Trivia
- A single span of the fence surrounding the Main Room has broadly the same shape as the movie version of the fence on the rooftop of Mitakihara Middle School.
Notes
- ↑ The game's official translation translates both Toudai (灯台) and Toudai Gekijou (灯台劇場) as "The Lighthouse", however Gekijou means theatre.
The first instance of that occurred in pre-release materials, such as Magia Exedra Correspondence 1, but it wasn't been observed in the actual game until the release of Sensing Myself on the first anniversary.
Speculation
The theories below have not been proven yet.
Please keep in mind that they are fanmade theories, and not official material.
- The Lighthouse has many parts of it that are connected to Ultimate Madoka and the Law of Cycles. In the opening animation, the Window of Memory that Name, A-Q and Nighthawk opens has a design that shows Madoka and the wings of Ultimate Madoka. The symbol of this window also appears on the floor of the main floor of the Lighthouse. Additionally, in this image, the symbols of the Law of Cycles can be seen above the windows to either side of the Soul Gem mural.
- It is heavily theorized that the Lighthouse is what became of the Magia Record/Automatic Purification System, a system created by Touka Satomi, Nemu Hiiragi, Alina Gray, Iroha Tamaki and Ui Tamaki.[16]
- Beside saving Magical Girls from turning into Witches, the purpose of the Magia Record is to archive Magical Girls and not let them be forgotten[16], matching the Lighthouse which directly materializes Magical Girl's cores as Kioku, and memories as Memsparks.[17]
- The Puella Magi Diarium, a book from the Magia Record[16], is directly said to be in the Lighthouse.[5]
- In the Lighthouse there is a drawing of the "Original Four" standing infront of a cherry blossom tree[18], this very clearly references Iroha, Ui, Touka and Nemu in the Uwasa of the Eternal Sakura. A-Q also calls it a "kid's drawing" and suggests one of the original four drew it[18], while Ui has been shown to like drawing, for example drawing the original ideas of rumors that would later be turned into Uwasa by the Magius.[19]
