Exedra Quest - Chapter 1
This article details the first chapter of Exedra Quest in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra.
The first part [I Want to Protect Them (私は守りたい)] was released on June 16th 2026.
The second part [Theory of Relative Happiness (相対的幸福論)] was released in two acts. The first act was released on September 27th 2026. The second act was released on October 16th 2026, alongside the release of 
Venusta Dissonanza.
Story
Part I: I Want to Protect Them
Name remembers how when she first came to the Lighthouse, she was empty, but A-Q gave her a name and a purpose, she wants to protect the Magical Girls.
Name wakes up in Mitakihara City, seeing the Kioku of Felicia Mitsuki and Kyoko Sakura waiting for her to wake up. A-Q starts talking to her telepathically, explaining where she is. Felicia calls A-Q a Kyubey, to which A-Q complains that they are different, bringing up that they can feel emotions while Kyubey can't. A-Q complains about ending up with Felicia, making her angry. Name asks to have the situation explained to her, which A-Q does. A Darklight started to erode a Memspark, corrupting the Kioku of Sayaka Miki. Name worries that this whole mission is about more than just Sayaka Miki, which A-Q confirms. They explain that the Kioku represent the core of Magical Girls and the Lighthouse is a place that binds together all universes, meaning that if a Kioku disappears, the concept of that Magical Girl itself could disappear from every universe, erasing her.
Felicia suggests giving Sayaka a slam and expecting her to wake up fixed, but A-Q says that Sayaka might not be the cause of these problems. Kyoko confirms that they are in Mitakihara, which proves to A-Q that the problem is somewhere there, whether it's Sayaka or not. Name asks Kyoko and Felicia if they will help, to which Kyoko says they have to, confusing Name. A-Q explains that because she went into the Memspark instead of them, she now took the role of the Lighthouse Keeper, meaning the Kioku must listen to her now. When everything is explained, Kyoko suggest finding Mami Tomoe, but A-Q warns her to not be so trustful as this Mitakihara is irregular.
As the three walk around Mitakihara, Kyoko doesn't find anything strange. Felicia wishes there were dragons flying around but Name has no idea what dragons even are. Suddenly a girl screams, making Felicia believe that it's a dragon, but just finds a crying girl on the ground. The girl explains how she tripped on a rock and a bird pooped on her head, the girl further explains how much bad luck she has had lately, but also believing it's the nature's way of balancing things out. Felicia tries to cheer her up by saying encouraging words she heard from Yachiyo Nanami, but says them wrong to which Kyoko has to correct her. Felicia gives the girl a tissue but she just trips over again. Kyoko theorizes that the this Mitakihara might be unlucky. Name then feels something.
As they walk to Mitakihara Middle School, Kyoko tells Felicia how she never expecting to become a Kioku, with Felicia not fully understanding what they are even after "Not-Kyubey" explained them. Kyoko on the other hand understands what they are, A-Q talks to them, startling them. The warped Memsparks starts to severing their telepathic connection. Kyoko explains that they're waiting for Mami to come out of school, but gets worried on how Mami will see her. A-Q tells her to play along, because she can't know what kind of relationship the Mami of this world has with the Kyoko of this world. A-Q tells Name that only the Kioku can see her, Felicia worries she won't be able to help, but A-Q says that she can sense things the others can't.
Name tries out sensing something, and she feels the presense she felt around Sayaka before. Felicia asks if it's Mami but Kyoko sees Hitomi Shizuki and Kyosuke Kamijo, Sayaka's classmates. Kyoko comes up to them, introducing herself as a friend of Sayaka. Kyoko asks about Sayaka, to which Hitomi tells her that she didn't come to school today. Kyosuke gets suspicious, asking how she even knew that they knew Sayaka. Kyoko handles it calmly, saying Sayaka showed her pictures of them. Kyoko tells Felicia telepathically how her being a Kioku, and having every memory of every version of herself, is proving to be useful. Felicia asks Kyosuke if she is sick, but he has no idea, she then believes she's just ditching class, to which Kyoko and Hitomi say that it's not in her style. Kyosuke says that they've been friends since childhood and that Sayaka always comes to his recitals. They start to split but Felicia asks where they are going, to which Hitomi says they are going on their first date in ages. Hitomi confirms they are together thanks to Sayaka. They walk away from eachother, but Hitomi decides to ask one more thing.
In the afternoon, Mami's classmates talk about not seeing her in school lately, which Kyoko and Felicia overhear. Kyoko wants to believe that they are just out hunting Witches because it's dark out, which Felicia agrees with and they keep walking. Name feels something dropping, she asks Felicia if she dropped anything but she tells her that she's just imagining things. Name wonders if someone was there.[note 1]
Name suddenly feels a Witch, the three hurry over to it, believing Mami might be fighting it. The two Kioku transform and go fight, Name almost gets hit and Kyoko tells her to watch out. Felicia asks if the Witch can see her, to which A-Q explains that she can't see her, but can still touch her. The Kioku decide to fight while protecting Name, which just makes Name feel self concious, but she decides to still try. As she looks at a Familiar, she can feel which one is easier to defeat. She tries to tell Felicia but because of how rapid the fight is, she struggles. Kyoko can tell Name wanted to say something, but Name blames herself for Felicia getting hurt. The Familiars surround them, to which Kyoko decides to use her magic, but is interrupted by gunshots.
The Familiars die and the Labyrinth disappears, in the alleyway Mami reveals herself, greeting Kyoko and asking her why she's in Mitakihara. Kyoko assumes that Mami and the Kyoko of this world aren't on bad terms. Mami asks who Felicia is, to which Kyoko calls her a temporary collaboration. Felicia calls Kyoko "hot-and-old" (once again messing up phrases) and Mami notices that the two are quite close. Felicia almost brings up Name as she hears Mami say "two", but Kyoko quickly stops her, saying that "Kyubey-Lite" told them that Mami can't see Name. Mami asks what's a Lighthouse Keeper but Kyoko just tells her to forget it. Kyoko asks Mami if she works solo, which irritates Mami, especially when she has Felicia. Name and Felicia worry about the two not actually being on good terms and Name thinks she looks tired. Kyoko accidentally says "tired" out loud, which Mami confesses to being. Mami says how much she is struggling to defeat every Witch in Mitakihara alone, but when Kyoko asks if she's the only Magical Girl in Mitakihara she says that she can't let the other one defeat the Witches.
Confused, Kyoko accuses her of hogging Witches. She starts to believe this change in Mami's personality is what made Sayaka's Kioku collapse, to which A-Q tries to say something but is cut off. The telepathic connection between the three and the Lighthouse is only getting worse, they continue what they were saying about Mami's condition possibly being the anomaly. Mami says Kyoko isn't understanding her, and then accuses her of not being like herself either, worrying about Grief Seeds of a Magical Girl she doesn't know. Mami questions if Kyoko has always been like this, bringing up how she fought in the Familiar Labyrinth. Mami starts to explain that when the other Magical Girl saves somebody from a Witch something happens, but she doesn't get to finish her sentence as she collapses to the floor. The trio assume it's because of her exhaustion. A-Q tries to speak to them but is getting more and more cut off, until they can't communicate at all. Kyoko tells Name to come up with what to do next as she is their boss, but Name hesitates, which makes Kyoko angrier. Kyoko then decides to go off on her own, Name tries to stop her but she argues that if Name can't make up her mind, then she has no reason to stay with them.
Name tries to ask A-Q what to do after Kyoko left with Mami, but gets no response. Felicia scolds her for immediately trying to ask A-Q for help after Kyoko accused her of not making her own decisions. Name asks Felicia what to do, which she again gets scolded for. Felicia remembers her getting in trouble with her parents, knowing that Name couldn't remember if she ever did that. Felicia decides to help Name, knowing she's just lost. She explains that Yachiyo's constantly scolding her for something, but not knowing what you're apologizing for is worse than not apologizing at all, explaining self reflection. Name decides to make up and start making decisions, she worries Kyoko won't forgive her even after that, but Felicia encourages her to try first. Name makes the plan to look for the "other Magical Girl" Mami has talked about, through going into Witch Labyrinths around Mitakihara. Felicia gives her even more advice to which Name is suprised of how thoughtful she is, Felicia gets annoyed but she realizes that it's because she is a Kioku, and that she remembers every single thing she has experienced. Name suddenly feels something strange again, she asks herself is someone is watching them, someone like her?
In a hotel room, Kyoko cleans Mami's Soul Gem. She wonders about what's wrong with the current Mitakihara, she knows Sayaka usually makes the contract to heal Kyosuke Kamijo, so him being healthy means she must be a Magical Girl already. She then remembers what Hitomi asked her before they split up, she worried about something serious happening to Sayaka, and then she asked Kyoko about Magical Girls. Kyoko gasped but Hitomi got embarassed and left. Kyoko decides to start acting, she takes Mami's phone and searches up Kyosuke. She finds out his accident never even happened, she wonders if Sayaka wished for the accident itself to never happen, but she knows that wouldn't have been enough to dramatically change her. Kyoko then thinks that maybe Hitomi made the wish instead, which would be enough to alter Sayaka's core, but at the same time she believes there are universes where Sayaka doesn't make a contract. Mami finally wakes up, asking where she is, but Kyoko immediately asks her what she wanted to say before she passed out. Mami explains the story about "Mitakihara's Magical Girl of Misfortune", it's a Magical Girl that saves people from Witches, but the people she saves start to get extremely unlucky. Mami confirms this girl goes to her school, but she doesn't know her personally.
Name and Felicia manage to find a Witch's Labyrinth. Before going in, Felicia apologizes for not listening to Name last time they fought Familiars. She asks her what she was trying to say and Name explains that she could feel which Familiar was the weakest. Felicia compares it to health bars in a game, which Name doesn't understand but she tells her she can also tell how strong Felicia is. Name tells her she is strong but not as strong as Kyoko, which at first Felicia complains about but she recognizes that this skill is something unique to Name. They go in, but instead of finding the Magical Girl, they see two civilian children. Felicia tries to save them but a Familiar comes up behind her, Name tries to warn her, but Hitomi does before Name can. Felicia quickly defeats the Familiar and then sees Hitomi, who decides to assist her. As Hitomi brings up Kyosuke, who's unconcious in the same labyrinth, she believes she has to save others after being saved. Felicia asks her if she's a Magical Girl, but Hitomi goes to fight without transforming. Name can tell that Hitomi isn't a Magical Girl, and Felicia can tell she's not Witch Kissed either. As Felicia tries to stop Hitomi from fighting, another girl who isn't a Magical Girl appears, saying the same thing about being saved.
Back in the hotel room, Kyoko asks what Mami means by "misfortune". Mami explains that the people saved by that Magical Girl have bad luck, which makes Kyoko remember the girl she met when first roaming this Mitakihara. Mami believes the Magical Girl doesn't even know that she is causing all this, and that while she believes she is saving people, her magic unconsciously is used on the people she saves. Mami also believes she is the reason so many Witches have appeared around Mitakihara, creating a cycle. After Kyoko asks, Mami finally says the Magical Girl's name, Sayaka Miki.
In the Labyrinth, Felicia struggles with fighting the Familiars and trying to save the civilians at the same time. As the Familiars shoot at Felicia, she almost gets hit, but they are reflected. The Familiars get slashed and killed instantly, with the culprit being none other than Sayaka Miki herself.
Mami asks Kyoko for help with dealing with Sayaka, believing she truly doesn't mean to be doing all of this, and she needs help too. Kyoko suddenly senses a Witch and decides to go to it, Mami tries to come with her, but her weak state stops her from doing so.
In the Labyrinth, Sayaka appears, but with a completely different Magical Girl outfit. She's confused when Felicia knows her name, but Felicia calls out her outfit. Confused, Sayaka says she has always worn this, but decides it's not the time for this and they need to kill the Familiars. Sayaka effortlessly defeats all of the Familiars, which shocks and kinda pisses Felicia off. Felicia thanks her for saving her and when Sayaka presses on how she knows her, Felicia lies that she saved her once. Sayaka believes that Magical Girls should work together and assures her that she won't get territorial, she also thanks her for saving Hitomi. Felicia says that she tried to fight the Witch, which shocks Sayaka, but she says that this has been happening a lot lately. The two decide to start getting everyone to safety, Felicia talks with Name about Sayaka, feeling like the only thing different about her is the outfit. Name explains how she heard that a Magical Girl's appearance is tied to her personality, so Sayaka's personality must be different, but they can't tell how. As Sayaka tells Felicia to hurry up, Name believes there's something different about this Sayaka. After calling the ambulance, Sayaka starts talking about how Magical Girls deserve more praise, but she also mentions how much good things have been happening to her lately, believing it's a reward for her work. As Sayaka says that Hitomi and Kyosuke were in a bad spot, she says that they had it coming, which suprises Felicia. Sayaka mentions how happy they have been lately, and so they were bound to have bad luck. Felicia questions if they are friends, but Sayaka believes that has nothing to do with it. Felicia argues that she's supposed to care about her friends, but Sayaka counters by saying that everyone deserves their share of good and bad luck. Sayaka asks her why she's getting so mad, Felicia brings up how Hitomi and Kyosuke could have died, but Sayaka just says that they didn't. Felicia then transforms and attack her, to which Sayaka transforms and blocks the attack, Felicia decides that she has to stop her. As Name ponders on what to do, she feels Sayaka's magic. She quickly talks to Felicia, telling her just how strong she can tell Sayaka is. Name believes that Felicia needs to work with Kyoko to take her on, to which Felicia decides it's time to retreat and starts to run from Sayaka.
Part II: Theory of Relative Happiness
Sayaka chases Felicia and Name and attacks them at the same time. Felicia worries about Name getting hit, as even though Sayaka can't see her she can hit her. Name tries to convince Felicia to retreat, but Felicia believes it's too late, so Name calls out Kyoko's name. Kyoko actually appears, stopping Sayaka. The trio reunite and Kyoko comes up to Sayaka, teasing her about getting a makeover, to which Sayaka tells her that she was supposed to never see her again. Kyoko doesn't back down and stays confident as Sayaka and Felicia explain what got them here. Name worries about Sayaka and the Kyoko of this world clearly not being on good terms, to which Kyoko admits her plan assumed that wasn't the case, so she makes the new plan to bail.
The trio run into a secret alleyway, Mami told Kyoko about, and manage to lose Sayaka. Kyoko tells them what she learnt from Mami, they agree that Sayaka is the anomaly causing the problems. They talk about the possible plans, with Felicia suggesting whacking her again, but Kyoko believes that they have to make her realize what wrong she is doing. Name asks Kyoko if she's gonna help them, with Felicia agreeing, thinking she is still mad at Name. Kyoko says she's doing this only for Sayaka, but gives in and admits Name is making progress with being independent. Kyoko tosses food to Name and Felicia as a peace offering. Kyoko decides it's time to go and talk to Sayaka, not wanting to regret not doing it later, Felicia agrees and calls out words she heard from Iroha Tamaki. Name worries about it not working out, but Kyoko just assures her that they can make another plan. Suddenly a new voice calls out to them, revealing herself as Madoka Kaname.
Kyoko recognizes her and Madoka says that one of them dropped something near the school, Felicia realizes she dropped her mini cow, a tiny version of her big cow plush made by the Mikazuki Villa members. Madoka explains how she ran after them when she saw her drop it, but lost them on the way and was about to hand it over to the police, but thankfully managed to find them. Felicia thanks her and Madoka starts to leave but Kyoko stops her, she asks her if she's Sayaka's classmate, which Madoka confirms. Kyoko asks her if she noticed anything weird about Sayaka, which Madoka only mentions her school absence. Felicia and Kyoko express confusion, believing they're supposed to be best friends, but Madoka doubts that Sayaka thinks that about her. Name and Kyoko think about how different this relation between the two is in this world, and Felicia presses on asking if she noticed anything strange. Madoka then calls out a time when Sayaka told her and Hitomi about Magical Girls, and wondered who would protect them, Kyoko and Name connect this to the time Hitomi asked Kyoko about Magical Girls. Madoka pleads to them to help Sayaka, believing she can't do anything unlike Kyoko.
Kyoko and Name suddenly feel Sayaka's magic, Felicia suggests getting Madoka to talk with Sayaka but Kyoko refuses as she isn't a Magical Girl. The trio then runs into a Labyrinth, promising to look after Sayaka and leaving Madoka. They think about just how many things are different in this world and worry about how hard solving it all would be. Name then wonders which anomaly came first, which shocks Kyoko and she comes to the conclusion that all of them might be caused by one thing. Sayaka then catches up to them, the two transform and jump into the labyrinth.
Sayaka calls them out on going into a dead end, but Kyoko tells her how it's part of their plan. Sayaka then reveals that Magical Girls become Witches, that hope and despair cancel eachother out, believing that it should be like that for everyone else too. To Felicia's suprise, Kyoko agrees, she then starts explaining to Sayaka what Mami told her, about how she curses people when she saves them. Sayaka argues, believing it's nature balancing the luck out, not believing Kyoko in the slightest. Kyoko tries convincing her that she can stop using her magic unconsciously, bringing up Hitomi, Kyosuke and Madoka, but Sayaka says that she didn't make the contract for him, that Madoka has nothing to do with this, and that she has no right to even be by her side because she's no longer human. She hits Kyoko as she keeps saying that it couldn't possibly be her fault, bringing up a girl she couldn't save. She gets more and more angry, attacking Kyoko and Felicia.
They discuss with Name about the possibility of everything starting in the past, meaning they would have to go travel into the past from the Lighthouse first, and fix whatever went wrong. Name expresses her will of protecting Magical Girls, but Kyoko worries if she's not just repeating what A-Q told her. Name knows that, but still believes she wants to do this. They think about a way of getting back into the Lighthouse, but they know they have to escape Sayaka first. Sayaka attacks again, going straight for Name, but is shot by a Tiro Finale attack. Mami appears.
Mami calls out Kyoko, knowing that she isn't the one she knew, but recognizes her as an ally. Kyoko is utterly suprised, but confirms this, telling her about her plan to save Sayaka and tells her to leave. Mami disagrees, believing it's her problem too. Mami tells her about a time when she actually spoke with Sayaka, with Sayaka's words being a cry for help. Mami also wants to save Sayaka so they team up. They explain the plan of going into the past, which confuses Mami but she agrees to help them with getting out of the Labyrinth. She asks about the Lighthouse Keeper they keep mentioning, Kyoko wants to explain but Name suddenly feels a presence.
She recognizes this magic, feeling it many times before. She turns around and sees a creature, similar in size to A-Q and Nighthawk. Felicia asks if it's a dog, which Kyoko slightly makes fun of her for. Name believes this creature wants them to follow her and Kyoko notices how the Familiars avoid that specific place. Mami asks who they are talking to, not seeing the creature the same way she can't see Name.
Sayaka gets back up, attacking Mami this time. Mami questions how she even got up after a Tiro Finale, with Felicia believing she's some kind of monster. Sayaka keeps denying her magic being the cause of misfortune around Mitakihara, and believes they deserve to get attack or accusing her of doing it all. Kyoko tries to talk it out again but Mami quickly cuts her off, deciding to deal with Sayaka alone. Felicia and Name know Mami won't stand a chance and Name believes they have to stay with her. Mami can tell Kyoko and Felicia are talking to someone she can't see. The trio then agree they have to go to the creature as Name feels a gate nearby, so Kyoko decides to agitate Sayaka.
Sayaka attacks the three Magical Girls, making them all collapse. Mami suddenly says "10 seconds", believing she can hold Sayaka off for 10 seconds, Name notices how dark Mami's Soul Gem and Kyoko tries to discourage her from doing it. Mami knows she can't save everyone from Sayaka's magic, but believes the trio can, so even though she knows she's going to die she wants to do this. Kyoko agrees, while Felicia can't handle the idea of just letting Mami die, but Kyoko calls out that this will save both Sayaka and Mami. Mami and Kyoko bid their farewells and Mami calls the Lighthouse Keeper their hope. Mami and Sayaka fight while the Lighthouse trio runs in the direction of the creature, which opens a gate to the Lighthouse. The trio jump in and so does the creature, leaving the Memspark.
The trio end up back in the Lighthouse, specifically in the Chamber of Light where A-Q is. A-Q is glad they made it back safely after their connection cut off. Kyoko asks them if they found out anything new, which A-Q says they found out why the Kioku manifested in the Lighthouse. A-Q explains that the Lighthouse ended up inside something that changed its nature, Name asks what it ended up in, but A-Q doesn't know, knowing only that it's a space formed from magic similar to the inside of a Memory Window. Felicia asks if they need to be worried to which she gets another "I don't know", getting angry. A-Q believes there's no immediate risk and asks them how it went. They look at the still dark Memspark and Sayaka's still collapsed Kioku.
Name, Kyoko and Felicia explain what they found out during their mission, also explaining their theory of the anomaly starting in the past. A-Q tells them that they can't go in without a plan, but Felicia tells them of the plan to regroup with the other Kioku. A-Q then mentions that Sayaka's Kioku isn't the only one being eroded, and that they want to investigate Name's new power. Kyoko asks Name to make sure to take her when going into the past. A-Q ponders why the anomaly targeted Sayaka, but then asks who is the new creature. Name answers that she helped them, and Felicia thinks it's a dog, with Kyoko disagreeing again. A-Q feels like it's the most similar to Nighthawk and asks her who she is, getting no response. Name believes that maybe she doesn't have her memories just like Name, and wants to give her a name with Nighthawk's input. She wonders where Nighthawk is, but A-Q just thinks they're off collecting junk. A strange cutsene of Nighthawk in their shop is then shown.
