Witch Girl

Selema’s Witch Girl outfit consists of three big hand sewing needles attached to her hair ties, one on her left tie and two on her right tie. She wears a capelet with white fur trim with a big red bow tied from thread, and the capelet is hand sewed shut with obvious red hand stitching. She wears a corset with two big buttons on the front and her skirt part is similar to a pin cushion, with ball pins and needles pierced in, some hand sewing needles have red thread tied onto them. She wears brown tights with shoes that have gray metal bobbins on the top, the shoes are yellow with brown soles.

Witch Silhouette (ウィッチシルエット)[3] is an alternate form of Selema. Selema's Witch Silhouette appearance is similar to her Witch Girl outfit, her capelet is replaced with a white baggy top with puff sleeves, along with a hood with a yellow hem with brown stitching. There is an array of gems around the top with gold chains connecting them, noticeably her soul gem is on the hood itself. Her original pin cushion skirt is still there, but like her capelet, she has a white skirt with a yellow hem that covers the pin cushion. There is gems on the skirt and the gold chain is seperate from the gems.

Selema's main weapon has two modes: Wand Mode and Baton Mode.[4] In Wand Mode, it can summon her "familiars" and has the ability to make them fly. In Baton Mode, the weapon has a bear's head at the top, with two white wings on the back of the bear's head, and it can form a blade made of threads from the top of the bear's crown.[observed]

Selema can use ballpoint pins to stun enemies, even causing them to sleep, as this is seen when she stuns Kyoko, Madoka and Zi Ding Xiang. She is able to ride a ballpoint pin to fly, similar to a witch, along with a orange sparkle trail that follows her ballpoint pin.[observed][5]

History

Prior to the events of Walpurgisnacht: Rising, Selema was a magical girl who was taken into the Law of Cycles after falling into despair.

In the movie, she first appeared bumping into Nagisa Momoe and Mami Tomoe in a thematic park when she was in a bear custom, and she played and became friends with them immediately.

Later, she joins Wasu with Zi Ding Xiang in her fight against Homura.

In the Nazukasokotsune she finds Kyubey and the trio decides to make an alliance.

After Zi Ding Xiang is saved by Madoka, she irrupts with her familiars and uses her magic to put to sleep both of them and Kyoko, kidnapping Madoka and leaving a confused Mami, Nagisa and Kyoko with Zi Ding Xiang unconscious. She explains to Madoka that she is a goddess who erased the existence of witches, and that she finds both her useless if she rejoins the Law of Cycles and a waste if magical girls get taken instead of becoming witches for the good of the universe. Then, she implants the record of Kriemhild Gretchen from the Nazukasotsune into her, turning Madoka into a witch. Then she takes her Witch Silhouette form, (regaining her soul gem), with the intention to take Madoka's place as God.

The Holy Quintet, along with Wasu and Zi Ding Xiang, fight both her and her familiars army in order to save Madoka from fully turning into Kriemhild Gretchen. She then transforms into a gigantic form of her Witch form, Quitterie, to attack everyone. Nagisa and Mami combine their powers, and both manage to defeat her. Nagisa talks with her Selema but her soul gem breaks due to Nagisa's attack on her.

Selema's design was originally based on "Bear Girl" from Episode 12 of the original television broadcast, although Ume Aoki cannot remember why she did so.[6] Her witch form was originally described in Inu Curry's Note as "Bear Girl (Needle Witch)" (「クマ子 (針の魔女)」 "Kuma-ko (Hari no Majo)").[6]
