Juri Oba (大庭 樹里 Ōba Juri) was a playable character in the 2017 mobile game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record. She first appeared in October 2019 in the event Crimson Resolve and is released as a playable character on January 18, 2021. She is the leader of the Ryuugasaki faction - also known as "The Flame of Ryuugasaki (竜ケ崎の炎)" and one of the "three sisters" that lead Promised Blood.

The Doppel of endorsement.
Its form is an airship.
At the sight of her Doppel trying to immediately release the massive energy that’s built up within her body and mind, the master of this emotion sends it a glorious cheer of her own, and works to vent her frustrations along with said Doppel. This Doppel encourages one to immediately act on every thought that comes into their head, to the point of considering self-control an outright evil, and it likewise never holds back for a single moment. This extends not just to things like eating and sleeping, but even to sudden destructive impulses, and the Doppel thus lays waste to its surroundings while dragging its master along. If one dared to try and stop it by applying external pressure, its discontent would spike beyond its limit, and the resulting explosion would blast away everything in its vicinity.

この感情の主は、身と心の内に溜め込んだ膨大なエネルギーを今にも発散させようとしているドッペルに対し、自らも盛大なエールを送りながらドッペルと共に鬱憤を晴らそうとしている。

 On an early morning, Juri rounds up almost all of Promised Blood, and becomes somewhat of a drill sergeant as she forces some nameless goons to shake off their morning sleepiness. Turns out, there is a limited-time lottery ticket sale, with one of the prizes being a rerun of a very rare embroidered jacket that she desperately wants, because it’s a lot like the one her dad used to wear. After reminding a half asleep Ao that she once waited in line with her for a limited edition game, Juri gets asked by Yuna about what she’d do with the possibility of everyone winning, which is exactly what happens moments later. Everyone but Juri got a winning ticket, including a nameless goon. Juri is bewildered for a moment, but decides to take all the winning tickets and trade them in. The following day, Juri is wearing her new jacket, despite how cold it is outside. Ranka tries to tell her that she doesn’t need to wear it just because she won it, but she just loves her new outfit too much to be bothered. .png) Juri gets home from work, which is implied to be a mechanic. After making sure that the coast is clear, Juri eagerly opens a gift that she got from a client, two of GonoGonolCHI's ultimate meat buns, which were almost unobtainable due to their popularity. Brimming with pride she is about to cook them and retrieve a drink to go with them, but she begins hesitating. Juri remembers the rest of her family seeing a commercial for the popular meat buns, all of them getting excited at the thought of potentially having one, and sharing disappointment from how sought after they were. As Juri fights her temptations, Yuna, Hikaru, and Ao suddenly return home. Knowing that she can no longer hide, Juri relents and offers to share the meat buns with her family, while pretending to deny Hikaru her share for the fun of it. Before the four enjoy their half of a bun, Juri concludes that she made the right choice. |

The day after Halloween, Yuna receives a call from her father forcing her to participate in a community contribution activity involving trash pickup and home visits. Despite Juri's protests, she soon receives a similar call and is forced to join as well. The next day, Yuna and Juri arrive for trash pickup dressed in Halloween costumes, where Urara, Asahi, and Lavi have also come to help. Chaos ensues as everyone gets distracted, forcing Yuna to scold them and finish the cleanup herself. After trash pickup, they move to home visits. Yuna observes new sides of her friends: Urara's skill with people, Asahi's knowledge of military history, and Juri's unexpected cooking ability when they help a woman who left her stove on. Their final activity is a hospital visit. While distributing snacks, Yuna notices a shy girl. Urara performs tricks to cheer her up, and Juri discovers the girl also reads a niche manga, bonding with her over it. The following day, Hikaru requests help with a children's group for several days. Juri initially refuses but agrees when the shy girl from the hospital arrives and offers to share her manga afterward. The girl remains isolated while other children play. During sugoroku time, Ao facilitates penalty games. When the girl's turn comes to draw a portrait, she freezes under pressure. Ao scolds impatient children harshly, and the girl runs away crying. After the group ends, Yuna and Juri find her. Juri gives her chocolate and learns the girl has never fit in since moving to the city a year ago, and her grandmother, her only ally, is ill. To comfort her, Juri performs tiny fireworks magic she learned to stop her younger cousin from crying. That night, Yuna and Juri discuss how to help. Juri admits the girl reminds her of young Ao. They strategize until dawn, then fall asleep. The next morning, they finalize their plan. At the children's group, Yuna announces they will play Picture Shiritori. The girl freezes again, but Juri encourages her with a quote from their shared manga. The girl draws skillfully, impressing the other children, and becomes popular. Afterward, the girl thanks them and explains she will visit her grandmother at the hospital. Juri offers to walk her there as it gets dark. On the way, they sense a Witch heading toward the hospital. Inside, the girl finds her grandmother collapsed, and a blackout occurs as the Witch's barrier descends. Juri and Yuna arrive, defeat the Witch, and lift the barrier. The grandmother is merely unconscious. The girl asks if they are heroes and declares she wants to become one like them. Yuna remembers meeting her before, when she saved the girl from a Witch's Kiss around the time she moved to the city. Juri tells her not to become a hero, but to have confidence and make her wishes come true by herself. The girl decides she will become the strongest version of herself. After the Halloween season passes, Yuna and Juri continue visiting the children's group regularly. The girl has grown more confident and now helps other shy children, and Juri takes them under her wing. Yuna reflects that meeting this girl stirred up new feelings in Juri. Despite claiming she would never change, Juri now helps people in trouble and plans activities for the children's group. As they sense another Witch approaching, Yuna realizes she never imagined a day would come when she and Juri could talk about the future together. |
Powers and Abilities
Her ability is to endure, which at first can be mistaken as the same as Kokoro's, but the difference is every time she feels overwhelming emotions, instead of letting them out right away, she has to hold them back to her utmost limit and let her feelings out at once, mostly via violence. It's also implied that she can prolong her Witch transformation in exigent situations.

Etymology
- The characters of her last name mean "large" (大) and "garden" (庭) respectively.
- The characters of her first name mean "timber" (樹) and "village" (里) respectively.
Trivia
- Due to the wings and tail on her costume, it is fair to say she has some relation to the mythological dragon in European mythology, these beings were said to breathe fire. The gem also has devil/bat wings, these are another common trait of Western dragons. It matches with her leading Ryuugasaki, although Ryuu usually refers to an Eastern dragon (especially when in rivalry against the tiger, note that Ryuugasaki was in a rivalry against Torayamachi), which doesn't breathe fire, nor does have bat wings.
- Hence the fact her weapon is flamethrower, it literally 'breathes' fires out of a snout.
- The name of her Doppel Lakehurst is a reference to the city where the Hindenburg Disaster happened. It is referenced in its zeppelin-like shape.
- Her clothes resemble a qipao, a kind of traditional Chinese clothing. In Chinese culture, there are also many fairytales related with dragons, although they are a far cry from the western dragons Juri is obviously based on.
- Juri using a vacuum in her and Yuna's Vampire unit may be a reference to Luigi from the Luigi's Mansion series, where he uses a vacuum to suck up ghosts.
