This page is full of stubs?

Some of the characters listed on this page - the Ashen Revolution characters especially - have enough story info to easily support an entire page of their own. Kurara is even voiced in Main Story 9; she's easily confirmed to be voiced by Akari Kitou, who also voices Emiri and Shigure! So should we start spinning out pages for the more fleshed-out characters? SuzuneMU (talk) 10:14, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

If you feel there's enough information to warrant a page (the way we did for Yuu) then by all means go for it. I just didn't want a bunch of pages with single line descriptions, ya know? Sondenise (talk) 14:36, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Japanese spellings

If anyone knows the kanji/kana for any of the characters on this page, please add them. I've started off with Itsumi Inui (which I found on the fandom wiki). ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 02:31, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Organization

This page is getting pretty long, so I was wondering if perhaps it made sense to organize them by category, instead of purely alphabetical. I'm not quite sure what the categories would be, though Puella Historia is probably one good one, but we could have section headers as categories, and each character is a tab on a tab container. Linking directly to a specific tab works, so all the redirects would continue to function. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 19:23, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Maybe breaking it up by arc appearance? Arc 1, Arc 2, Arc 2.5 Puella Historia. Then we could have a link in the character table for that arc that points to the minor characters like how there's Tart minor characters and then Oriko minor characters. (I don't know if I explained that right). Sondenise (talk) 20:50, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Hmm. That sounds a bit difficult. How do you determine arc appearance? If it's strictly by "appears in a Main Story or Another Story chapter", then I don't think there are any for Arc 1, and not that many for Arc 2 either (I can only see 1 from scanning the table of contents). On the other hand, if you expand it to include events linked to each arc, I think there still remain some without a clear arc? (Also – are you suggesting breaking it up into separate pages rather than the tabs idea? It somewhat sounds like you might be, but it's not clear to me.) ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 21:20, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Columns

The reason I had it at two columns is because it looks cleaner that way. With 3, it takes the following appearance to me. Amaterasu (talk) 11:56, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

It looks wrong. Maybe its just me?
I don't understand what I'm looking at there. For me, even if I make the window ridiculously tiny, all that happens is I get a horizontal scrollbar. It's hard to believe something gets it that crazy. What browser do you use? ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 18:49, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
I think the columns are intersecting which is why it appears that way. I use Google Chrome. Amaterasu (talk) 20:15, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Chrome uses WebKit for layout… and I get the same result in Safari, which uses the same layout engine. Looks like it's splitting the box into N columns while also flowing the box's content into N columns. That's kind of a weird interpretation, but I'll see if I can find a way to fix it. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 00:10, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Can we really consider design notes to be canon?

A few of these characters were stated in design notes to have been magical girls, but can we consider them to be canon? I'd argue that things such as Witch Descriptions are way more canon than design notes, yet even they are ignored sometimes (like Kyosuke being a guitarist in timeline 3). There's even official art of Tart when she's got her buzzcut but she couldn't have been able to transform then, so can we really count them as definitive? Sweet Beanie (talk) 08:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

I personally wouldn't consider design notes to be hard canon, but I don't think there's any problem with including information from them when it doesn't contradict anything else. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 12:45, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Inclusion of characters that existed in other forms in previous media

Basically, I don't know how to feel about Cleopatra and Himiko being included. Himiko had quite a lot of appearances as a Magical Girl based off her episode 12 design, Cleopatra a little less but it's still strange to conflate their MagiReco and 2011 anime appearances. Especially given that ep 12 Himiko does appear in Magia Record too (Madokami's 2nd magia) EPF (talk) 09:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

They are certainly characters that appeared in the game. Where else would they be mentioned? And what's this about appearances as a magical girl based on episode 12? ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 12:47, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
Mmm, maybe I worded what I meant wrong. I don't feel weird about Himiko/Cleopatra being on this page... But I do feel weird about putting their non-MagiReco appearances here. They're basically different characters, in my opinion. EPF (talk) 13:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
It seems strange to consider them as different characters when they're the same person. I can kinda see your argument for it, but since non-Magia-Record ones are no more than cameos, so even calling them a character in the first place is a stretch. Since they're the same person, and it doesn't really make sense to have a separate entry for a cameo, I think adding their cameo info here is better than not. If they were more than just a cameo I'd say not to put them here but instead link to them, like "not to be confused with this other version of them". ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 18:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
I was thinking more along the lines of "The design notes call her Himiko but does that mean that she is really Himiko?" They probably just vaguely looked up "notable ancient Japanese women heroines" and put it in the notes.Sweet Beanie (talk) 18:27, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
The wiki has been 100% treating her as Himiko since 2011, see Madoka_Magica_Episode_12:_My_Very_Best_Friend and Minor Characters#Magical Girls Madoka Saved. Here's why:
  • On that production note page, she's the only one that's directly named: the others are labelled highlander (高地民族 takachi minzoku), girl carried by the truck (トラックで運ばれる少女 torakku de hakobareru shoujo) and battlefield (戦場 senjou). Himiko is ヒミコ, which is, well, Himiko.
  • She's one of the two historical figures namedropped in Runes:Episode_11, along with Joan of Arc. Moreover, her name is paired with visuals that in fact allude to historical events featuring real-life Himiko

EPF (talk) 23:40, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Unlike Cleopatra, I don't think there are any good historical images of Himiko, so no-one knows what she truly looked like. So it's hard to say, but based on the above evidence cited by EPF, I'm inclined to think she's Himiko. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 23:53, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Removed katakana

I removed the kana from various entries using Template:Nihongo for non-Japanese names. However, I think it's not unreasonable to include these removed katakana renderings in some other form. On the main character pages they usually appear in an infobox. Adding infoboxes for each entry on this page is one option, though I'm not sure if it's a good one. Finding some other way to note the katakana would be reasonable too. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 06:48, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
