Weak witch
One-whole cheesecake
Upper middle:
"It's really a delicious cheesecake.
My dying mother wanted to eat it.
But, perhaps, I should have cured her disease instead.
However, that surely wasn't appropriate."
Right, top-to-bottom:
A witch-space that became the basis
for the witch of dessert from ep. 3 and the
minion of the witch of scribbles from ep. 5.
She became a magical girl for one-whole cheesecake,
and after becoming a witch, clings to that cheesecake.
The witch of dessert in the main series is the reverse of this;
she obtained "one single cheesecake"
in strict accordance with her wish.
After turning into a witch,
the only thing her magic cannot make is cheese,
and she became a very strong witch.
Left diagram:
It feels as if the scrambled-street parts
keep having yellow paint dumped on them.

A single cheesecake floats in the air.
The weird-looking witch stands atop it.
Middle, with diagrams:

After being caught up in it,
the people who were in the previously-scrambled streets
pop out into the normal streets.

There's a small, high, mouse-like 'kiii-' or 'chiii-' noise.

Upper left:
Weak witch

There isn't a clearly-defined barrier.
The green area is the barrier.
Painted green, no shadows in the green area.
Becomes like a stuck-on 2D poster.
The boundary line moves and bounces around.
Middle:
Yellow balls bounce around only in the green area.
The witch continually chases them.
Middle left:
Witch:
A character reminiscent of a Showa-era poster.
Stuck on. No shadow. No sense of depth.
Her lower body turns into a car and an airplane and such.
Lower Left:
Zooms around in the green area and chases balls.
In the end, it's less like she's fleeing and more like
she's just chasing more balls and scooting off somewhere.
Right:
She changes the humans around her into new balls,
and eats the balls if she gets hungry.
No matter how many new balls she gets, though,
because she isn't that bright, she loses them immediately.
She chases after balls throughout her whole life.

Basically the same as episode 1.
+Feels like there's bonfires here and there.
Episode 1 is "What on earth is going on here?"
Episode 10 is "It's like a ceremony"
Buildings are piled up
Lower left:
Bonfires here and there throughout downtown.
Tires, debris and dead bodies are piled up.
*In episode 10, Walpurgis is still only partially visible.
The whole thing suddenly snaps into focus in episode 11.
Right, top to bottom:
She will turn all of fate's misfortune to nothing.
She will flood the earth with magic,
and take all of humankind into her play.
A moving stage construction.

If all of this is a play, then there is no such thing as sadness.
It may be a tragedy, but it's merely the way that kind of script was performed.

The play stops on Walpurgisnacht,
and the earth does not turn even once more.
The story will not change.
Tomorrow, and the day after, is the night of Walpurgis.
Topmost left line:

Right, top to bottom:

#01_Beginning: Walpurgisnacht Image Cut

An upside-down city and a sky with a hole in it. Walpurgisnacht's halo over the top of an upside-down mountain.

Early Walpurgis (Initial Designs)

Spreads out like dandelion fluff being blown.

When you go "Fuuu~" (blow), flames come out.

The form of the flames: A winding, wavy feel, like those seen in old Japanese paintings.

Walpurgisnacht Concept Draft (ワルプルギス案)

Text: Kyahaha (キャハハハハハ)

Behavior: Spinning around innocently, as if running around a field.

Main Body (本体): (Produces gears.

  • Tip of the gear: Light
  • When inverted, the rod part retracts (Normal state).

Design elements:

  • Claws (つめ)
  • Clock (とけい)
  • Western person's (noble's) hat. Hard.

Walpurgisnacht's Procession

On both sides of Homura as she waits on the ground, the illusions of a parade appear first.

(Elephants, marching bands, carriages, giant puppets/dolls, etc.)

While Walpurgis itself is a theatrical stage, the parade itself is a circus.

Upon arrival: Walpurgis's neck is being pulled along by the circus.

The net is severed by Homura's attack.

Episode #11 Walpurgisnacht

In addition to the stage on Walpurgis's body, illusions of magical girls are performing a play throughout the city.

↑ (Avant-garde dance) Semi-transparent, hologram-like. Faces and expressions cannot be seen.

Walpurgis destroys the city, but the illusions of the girls are just doing things like dancing on top of the rubble.

● Performance of the Dancing Magical Girls (●

The appearances of the witches from episodes #01 to #10 during their days as magical girls. (#01~10

(Designed so they can be identified by their main color and items)(メインカラーとアイテムで分かるような)

+ Also including the appearances of Mami, Sayaka, and Kyouko.

• Voices and Lines (・声やセリフ)

A few lines selected from around the scene where Margarete goes mad in Faust, Part One ("Prison").

★ In German. (★

Example) Song:

My cruel mother, (わたしのひどい母さんが、)

she killed me.

And my wicked father,

he ate me.

My little sister, (わたしの小さな妹さんが、)

gathered up my bones,

and buried them in a cold grave.

I became a beautiful bird,

and flew far away.

Walpurgisnacht (Night of Walpurgis) Settings

★ A massive entity that is somehow incomprehensible. (★

  • Stage
  • Gears
  • Gears / Retro-style machinery

The stage apparatus itself is the witch.

Stage dialogue: rather than the entity itself speaking...

↑ It plays out from the stage speakers. → When Walpurgis takes damage, the audio quality of the dialogue speakers distorts and gets mixed with static/noise.

  • The actors are other magical girls (large numbers). They have no faces, but figures like Sayaka and others are among them.

  • She moves around while putting on a performance: The performance is more important to her than attacking enemies. If she loses sight of her target, she begins moving toward densely populated areas. (The city is destroyed just by her movement.)

  • Walpurgisnacht: All of the witches encountered up until now make an appearance.

Initial concept image of Walpurgis. Later, a music-box-like doll was attached to it upside down. However, the main body itself remains gears.

A giant fate / massive destiny.

Inside Box: Like a circular saw, a massive number of gears attack while spinning around it. (Normally, they rotate in a circle underneath Walpurgis, continuously grinding away at the ground.)

Right of Box: The gear attack is carried over into the Mermaid Witch's (Sayaka's witch form) wheel attack. We applied the imagery of rotating/spinning objects to witches in general.

Powerful Witch. Walpurgis of "Theatre" (ツヨイ マジョ「演劇」のワルプルギス)

"This world was entirely a lie. My life is nothing more than a play written by you. Please, prove it."

Faust is currently being performed. (On the upper stage) (「

• The pact between Dr. Faust and the devil Mephisto (the beginning section) → leading into Walpurgisnacht.

Pointing to the sphere: (Ground) It is so massive that it looks like a spaceship.

Pointing to the gears: Stage apparatus. Gears. Massive.

Top of right sketch: The barrier is huge. The sky is visible.

Below right sketch: Buildings and the ground twist and warp around the perimeter like a fence.

At this stage, rather than the final anime's canon explanation that "she is so strong she doesn't need a barrier," it was being designed under the interpretation that the barrier is simply so colossally massive that its boundaries are impossible to discern.

Magical girl posters/flyers designed to look like theatrical play bills are plastered all over the surrounding city.

Pages from Faust are fluttering through the air.
