Doppel Description

The Doppel of bleakness.
Its form is calm.
The master of this emotion doesn’t have any particular feelings towards her Doppel. This Doppel dramatically lowers the magical activity in its vicinity, transforming all magic energy into a state of perfect calm, no matter how fierce of a battle had been raging on around it. As long as they’re within this calm zone, both enemy and ally will find it impossible to exert any kind of magical effect. The Doppel and master’s fused form appears to stem from its master’s characteristic lack of emotional turbulence.

A girl brings Masara cookies, and Masara doesn't understand why. The girl wants to give them to her because she wants to, which Masara doesn't understand. Masara narratively introduces the girl as Kokoro Awane, a magical girl. She flashes back to their first meeting, where Kokoro said she couldn't protect "them". Masara asks if she's blaming herself, and points out Kokoro shouldn't feel responsible for what happened. This prompts Kokoro to ask to stay by Masara's side. Kokoro would later say Masara saved her with her words, but Masara thinks she only listened and gave her objective judgement. In the flashback, Masara thinks Kokoro wouldn't benefit from staying with her, but Kokoro says she wants to be with her. Back in the present, Kokoro asks what Masara is thinking about. Masara says she's thinking about the first time they meant, causing Kokoro to smile. Masara does not understand. Masara goes to Mitama Yakumo for magical strengthening with lots of Grief Seeds. Mitama says Masara is enthusiastic, but Masara says she wants to get stronger so she can find something to change her life. Masara suggests she participates in a summer festival and gives Masara a flyer she says someone left there by accident. Masara isn't interested and so Mitama begins her treatment. Afterward, she asks Masara about Kokoro, saying that Kokoro has mentioned her. Masara says they aren't friends, merely working together. She thinks that Kokoro's expectations are troublesome, since Kokoro has no benefit to it. Mitama claims that Masara is worried about Kokoro, pointing out that if Masara really thought Kokoro was irritating she would simply ignore her. Masara thinks back to the past. She says that her parents had her do swimming since she was a child. Despite having talent, she felt no joy or accomplishment. She continued swimming, thinking it might change, but she never gained a passion. She also never found something she thought was interesting. Masara thinks she's jealous of those people who can be excited about something. When she met Kyubey, she became a magical girl thinking her dull life might change. While it was fascinating at first, it eventually became boring. In the present, Kyubey says Masara fights as if she doesn't care about her life. Masara agrees and says she wouldn't despair even if there is no tomorrow for her. Kyubey said she's talented, but is taking risks. Masara says Kyubey is acting like Kokoro who is similarly worried about her. Masara wonders why that is, since if she disappears Kokoro wouldn't lose anything. Later Kokoro and Masara fight a witch. Masara tells Kokoro to get back, but Kokoro insist she can't fight alone and attacks. The witch then attacks Kokoro and Masara injures herself blocking it. After the witch runs away, Kokoro apologizes for letting Masara get hurt. Masara claims she was just doing the most logical action, since the witch couldn't be beaten alone. Later, Masara keeps flashing back to the witch attacking Kokoro when she looks at the spot of her injury. She feels bothered, but doesn't understand why. Later, Kokoro offers to hunt the witch again with Masara. Masara flashes back to the fight again and says she will hunt the witch alone. She says Kokoro is a burden, and that she's not fond of getting hurt. Masara then leaves Kokoro crying. Afterward, Masara tells Mitama what happened. Mitama thinks Masara was protecting her. At a loss for words, Masara wonders why she gets hurt from being around Kokoro. Later, Kokoro blames herself for causing Masara trouble. She then senses the witch from before. Respecting Masara's wishes, she fights the witch alone. Masara later finds the witch herself and is surprised to see Kokoro there. When she asks Kokoro why she's fighting the witch alone, Kokoro said she didn't want to be a burden. Masara initially thinks Kokoro is trying to protect her pride, but Kokoro says she doesn't want to see Masara get hurt again. Masara says she doesn't like it either, thinking she doesn't want to see Kokoro get hurt, and defeats the witch. Kokoro thinks that if Masara didn't arrive, she'd be done for. Masara agrees and tells Kokoro to call her next time she fights. Kokoro says she doesn't want to cause trouble, but Masara says she's doing it for herself, as she doesn't like to see Kokoro get hurt. Kokoro thinks about Masara's words, and asks if she can call her at lunch. Masara says she doesn't care. The two then go to Mitama's place. Kokoro notices Mitama's summer festival flyer and asks Masara if she's interested in going. Masara admits she is a little interested. Mitama laughs and says they can look forward to the future when you have something or someone important. Kokoro and Masara are confused, which exasperates Mitama. Mitama thinks Masara will become stronger because she has something to protect. Masara thinks about the future for the first time, though she doesn't know why. |

Masara has gone shopping for something to wear on the hike she’s going on with Kokoro. With so much clothes in the shop and all of it looking it the same, Masara can’t decide what to pick. As she squats in front of the store window and staring inside, she suddenly hears a voice calling her name. It’s Aimi Eri, who spotted her in the crowds. She asks Masara if something is up since she noticed her posture so Masara explains everything. Masara had come to buy clothes she’s pretty sure she can’t just go in her school uniform, but she couldn’t really tell the difference between it all. Aimi asks if she can help her choose since she’s was just hanging out at the mall. Masara accepts and the two head inside. Aimi shows a couple of different shirts to Masara and asks her which one she likes most. Masara asks what the function of the shirt is, so Aimi explains that they’re technically the same shirt, just different colors. She picked that style of shirt because they dry quickly so they’re safe to wear even if she sweats. Masara shrugs and says either will do. Aimi tells her they can choose a shirt later once they figure out the rest of the ensemble. Aimi spies the perfect jacket for Masara and shows it to her. Masara isn’t sure about the style but she doesn’t think the performance on it is bad. Aimi then coordinates a white shirt to go with the jacket so it stands out more and decides to look for shoes and pants next. Masara says she already bought shoes and Aimi guesses correctly that she chose them when she was with Kokoro. While Masara wonders how Aimi could have guessed, Aimi spots the perfect shorts. She runs over and starts grabbing a pair of sports tights off a nearby rack. She hands everything to Masara who takes it all into the fitting rooms to try on. She comes back out and models the clothes for Aimi. Aimi thinks it’s very cute and asks Masara how the clothes fit. Masara says they’re comfortable, especially with the sport tights under the shorts. Aimi is glad she like sand asks if she wants to get that set of clothes. When Masara doesn’t respond, Aimi wonders if maybe she doesn’t like the clothes after all. Masara says that’s not the case, it’s just that she was having trouble understanding why people like Kokoro or Aimi would have fun being with her. Aimi replies that it’s hard to explain, but in her case she enjoys seeing her lovable friends be fashionable. When Masara says she still doesn’t understand, Aimi asks if she dislikes shopping like this. Masara says she doesn’t hate it and when prompted, she also replies that she has fun shopping with Kokoro. Aimi says then it’s fine because she doesn’t hate it. Neither does Aimi and she’s sure that Kokoro doesn’t hate being with Masara. It’s just Masara’s style. Masara stares at her before calling them all strange. Aimi is surprised to find she didn’t get through and asks if Masara doesn’t feel the same way. A smile flickers across Masara’s face before she decides to buy the set of clothes much to Aimi’s joy.
Masara and Kokoro arrive at the beach. Kokoro says she's excited, and Masara says she doesn't find it boring. Kokoro notices that Masara brought her racing swimsuit. Kokoro says that Masara should try something new. Masara agrees, but says she doesn't know what she can do. Kokoro then changes Masara's hairstyle. Masara says the new hairstyle is good, even though she didn't look at it, because Kokoro made it.
Masara is shopping at a grocery store when Aimi bumps into her. She asks if she’s not shopping for dinner when she notices chocolate in her shopping basket. Aimi becomes startled and asks if that’s chocolate in her basket. Masara says it is and doesn’t understand why Aimi got so surprised she’s making chocolate for Valentine’s Day. Aimi says it’s because Masara had called the holiday a scheme concocted by confectionary companies and yet here Masara is hand making chocolates. Masara just shrugs and says she found a reason to make chocolate this year. Aimi desperately wants to know the reason why but she doesn’t want to be nosy. Masara offers to make some for Aimi as well but that’s not what Aimi was wondering about. Aimi thanks her nevertheless and asks if Masara isn’t making friendship chocolate since she had offered to make some for her. Masara doesn’t know what friendship chocolate is. She prepares to go but Aimi tells her to wait. Aimi’s curiosity finally gets the better of her so she asks who Masara is giving the chocolate to and what her reason is. Masara simply states she’s making the chocolate to give to all the Magical Girls that have cooperated with her in the past during Witch hunts. Masara says that’s good enough now and leaves. Aimi realizes that Masara is very limited with love and yet she’s still giving something to others as a sign of her gratitude. Aimi smiles at Masara’s gesture before calling out to her to tell her she’s looking forward to the chocolate. Masara pretends not to hear her as Aimi pouts for Masara not to ignore her. |
