Oriko Magica Sadness Prayer Chapter 3: Just Venting Some Frustration
Kirika and Oriko's battle continues, with the latter asking her what's wrong with her and why she's fighting her. Kikira ignores her and continues to attack, resulting in an explosion when Kirika's foot makes contact with one of Oriko's spheres and send them both flying. Kikira becomes momentarily distracted by feeling something in her shoe from the impact, but is quickly able to dodge Oriko's next attack and kick her into a pile of boxes nearby.
Kirika comments on how odd it is that she has difficulty hitting Oriko when the girl is very slow and klutzy compared to herself. In the pile, Oriko thinks about how she had foresaw all of Kirika's attacks but can't hit her nor keep dodging her forever. She also notes that the only magic Kirika should have is speed. She considers using a grief seed, but unless she can finish the fight she'll only end up wasting more magic. As Oriko considers her options, Kirika waits outside of the box pile asking how long she's going to be in there. Kirika then remembers what Oriko had asked earlier and answers that the reason why she's fighting is because she doesn't remember the wish she made when she became a magical girl. She goes on about how Kyubey had mentioned the side effects of the wish and her having a tough time trying to find out what she wants to accomplish. Oriko retorts that they're not even acquainted with each other and that Kirika's problems have nothing to do with her and to take it elsewhere. Kirika agrees and just says that she's venting some of her frustration on her and resumes the fight once more. Oriko fires another sphere at Kirika but the latter says it won't work and hits it away. She tries to go in for the kill, but finds that everything has turned pitch black due to the sphere hitting Kirika's only light source in the area. Unable to see, Kirika is left wide open as Oriko unleashes her spheres at her as she tries to dodge them. Kirika tries to gather her bearings and wonders where Oriko is firing them from and if she's trying to kill her by wearing her down. Kirika attempts to attack around herself and nearby in order to flush Oriko out, but finds she isn't anywhere near her at all. Kirika wonders how Oriko is able to know where she is when she can't see in the dark either and comes to the conclusion it's her magic from a sphere's fragment in her shoe that allowed Oriko to locate her. After she pulls it out, Kirika hears a door creaking and dashes after Oriko into a storage house while the other girl counts down from 100 during Kirika's search. She fails to find her as she continues the hunt, but falls into another room and finds an odd cell phone displaying the time as Oriko's countdown reaches 10. Once it falls to zero, Oriko catches Kirika off guard and fires several spheres at her, hitting her directly in the abdomen and knocking her down.
As Kirika lays on the ground Oriko appears above her and says how she gambled with her nearly all of her magic to foresee all of Kirika's movements, pleased with it paying off. She begins criticizing Kirika's battle style saying that while she is extremely fast, she relies too much on her field of vision and has no counter measures against her blind spot. Kirika asks how Oriko could've known where she was from outside when she had already destroyed the sphere fragment that was in her shoe, and Oriko answers that the fragment only gave her a general idea of her position and changed tactics by luring Kirika into the building filled with narrow passageways and bad footing to overcome Kirika's nimble movements to attack her blind spot. As for where and when Kirika was going to end up, Oriko answers that she already knew it via one of her visions showing her Kirika looking at her cell phone with the exact time on its screen to predict when to attack.
Kirika coughs and remarks how she can't believe that Oriko's precognition would beat her and thinks about how she never thought she'd die here. Oriko questions this as she hadn't harmed Kirika in any way during their fight, and Kirika is confused as she felt the pain from the other girl's last attack nearly shred her insides. Oriko tells Kirika to put the idea of dying out of her mind as it could end up actually killing her and hints to her soul gem being the reason why attacks like that haven't killed her yet. Kirika is still confused by her words and asks what she is, to which Oriko introduces herself and offers to tell her the secret of magical girls if Kirika becomes a pawn in her game.
Oriko flashes back to a younger version of herself and her parents visiting their aunt and uncle. As her father greets them, Oriko's mother asks her daughter what's the matter and to go greet them as well. Her father believes Oriko is just nervous as it's the first time she's been to her aunt and uncle's home. Oriko turns to her father and begs to go home as she doesn't like it here. Her mother notes how unusual it is for Oriko to throw a tantrum and tells her to not pester her father like this. Oriko narrates how she hated the main house of the Mikuni family; her uncle was the minister of finance and was once the head of his political party, while her father's other brothers and sisters were also politicians and members of the diet. She remarks how the eyes of her relatives were nothing like her father's as theirs was cold and arrogant. As a child she was certain that those people were secretly intending to kill off her beloved parents.
