Doppel Description

The Doppel of Nomadicism.
Its form is a Cookie.
The master of this emotion is anguished by the sight of her Doppel innocently playing without a mote of hesitation, as she feels that it is both a symbol of freedom and of guilt to her. This Doppel acts out of pure instinct as it freely floats and drifts around. Everything it does– yelling loudly, eating food, wrapping itself in lively colors– it does simply for its own enjoyment. No matter who it causes sorrow or pain to, it remains unaffected by this world’s concept of sin. Perhaps because it seems like an unblemished child at first glance, it gives off the impression of a pitiful being that can’t grow up, so the older its victims are, the more likely it is for sadness to take precedent over their terror.

The Scene is Sin-Colored |
**Unique to Sudachi Sawa** The classroom, the classmates, their expressions were all pure white. There was only the sound of the ongoing lesson, and the robotic movement of pencils. But now, lit by the sunset, this scene flooded in red is scorched into memory. Because one word made all the difference.

|
The following is a summary posted on 4chan's /pmmm/ general Sudachi was a loner in class who liked to avoid trouble. Then one day, her teachers' former classmate who was a victim of bullying rushed into class and took them hostage with a gun and knife. After torturing the teacher, he planned to escape, asking for a hostage to go with him. Since she had no friends, the whole class except the teacher, pushed Sudachi forward as the hostage with even the criminal noting they don't care if she were to die. The fearful Sudachi wonders why she was chosen and not any of the others and that she never caused trouble. Kyubey chose this time to ask her for a contract. Out of anger and fear, Sudachi wished that only she be rescued. Kyubey informs Sudachi that he can grant ANY wish and asks her to think twice: Is this really her wish? Since the guy is advancing towards her with a gun and combined with her initial anger, she says yes and Kyubey grants the wish. Thanks to Kyubey's interference, the criminal suddenly claims to feel a kindred soul in Sudachi. She is like him, being outcast by everyone in class. So, he will spare her and only her, killing the rest of the class after cursing them to bear their sins to hell. It was too much for Sudachi and the experience along with her regrets gave her PTSD, making her unable to speak from then on. After this Livia invited her along to Kamihama where their work, which will bring about even more good even though it might cause casualties, could give them salvation. Thus, Sudachi tags along. There she met and befriended Mikage Yakumo who has overcome her own demons as a result of being Mitama's sister. Mikage still loves her all the same despite knowing the less glorious parts of her sister. She extends her hand towards Sudachi, who is reluctant to believe that she can have salvation. Mikage claims that she is giving her the benefit of the doubt, and this is after learning the truth. Sudachi is touched by this, and Mikage became her first real friend in Kamihama, believing in her eventual redemption. |

On the week before Christmas, Puella Care hosted a special event, where they dressed up and offered free coordinations. For Sudachi, one particular experience stuck out the most from the campaign. While Yozuru was serving Akira, Sudachi tended to Emiri. The coordination went quick and smoothly, and an ecstatic Emiri begins to make conversation with Sudachi, where surprisingly, she seems to understand her responses. Emiri soon twists up Sudachi’s name into ‘Sudacheru’, her new nickname. Their pleasant conversation ranges from their similar age, their outfits, and how they were inspired by the three wise men. On the way back home, Yozuru points out that Sudachi was unusually happy with Emiri, but despite her initial suspicions, Sudachi confirmed that she never used her telepathy to begin with. The two wonder if a potential ability that would allow Emiri to understand all the ‘fumu’s was involved. Sudachi acknowledges it as strange, and thinks that if she ever asked Emiri how she knew, she would just shrug it off as just a feeling. |

Doppel Description

The Doppel of Nomadicism.
Its form is a Cookie.
The master of this emotion is disgusted by her Doppel who tries to be loved by others only by squealing, because it seems to symbolize her own naivety. Her Doppel acts according to its own instincts, only being conscious of what makes it easy for itself, and always asking someone else to help it without making any effort. It is futile to seek repayment for it, and no matter how much you help and love it, the Doppel will just drift away in fluff. The master, who strives to connect people with others, is even more complicated when she sees her Doppel who is able to gather people simply by dressing up and making adorable noises.

Side Story
| Sudachi Sawa's (Valentine) Side Story |
|---|
|
Episode 1 - My Beloved One: The story begins with Sudachi excitedly planning to visit Mikage on her day off from the adjuster shop. When they meet, they greet each other enthusiastically with their signature exchange before hugging. Mikage notices something different about Sudachi but dismisses it as her imagination when Sudachi responds with her usual "Fumu-mumunfu~". Through telepathic conversation, Mikage learns Sudachi is working in Takarazaki and got special Valentine's Day leave from Livia. They decide to visit the famous 1090 building in Sakae Ward that Sudachi always wanted to see. Inside the department store, they marvel at the expensive Valentine's displays they can't afford, then notice crowds at a Valentine's Special Booth. While observing the Valentine's festivities, both girls admit they've never participated before as neither has someone they like. Their conversation is interrupted when a car suddenly loses control - they detect a Witch's presence and transform to handle the situation. Mikage comments on Sudachi's new cute outfit designed to advertise the adjuster shop. They locate and defeat the Witch together, celebrating their successful teamwork. The affected driver wakes up confused, so Mikage improvises a cover story about him feeling sick. When he mentions transporting sweets ingredients, Mikage's curiosity leads him to gift them business-grade chocolate chunks as thanks. Back at Mikage's home, they decide to make friend chocolates together. They politely decline Mitama's offer to help due to her notoriously powerful cooking that "fixes cavities by killing the germs". Instead, they video call Lavi for remote guidance. Despite some messy moments during preparation, Lavi compliments their surprising skill. They realize they've prepared enough chocolate for about 100 pieces. Following Lavi's suggestion, they plan to gift extras to important people in their lives, including Lavi herself. Sudachi quietly reflects on who she considers important.
Episode 2 - Sudachi's Connections: The story continues with Sudachi contemplating Valentine's Day preparations. Mikage explains that chocolates can be given to anyone who cares for them, not just romantic interests and lists family members and friends she wants to give chocolates to. Sudachi internally debates who to give chocolates to - considering Livia, Yozuru, Nayuta, Lavi, Mitama, and others. She worries about ranking people's importance and potentially hurting feelings. Both girls express how complicated relationships can be. Sudachi reflects on her past isolation in school that led to tragedy. She recalls how her wish resulted in her classmates' deaths and vows to change her approach to relationships. Mitama interrupts their conversation with a suggestion to leave chocolates publicly rather than ranking recipients. They accept this solution and prepare to decorate their chocolates. Lavi guides them remotely while Mitama provides unusual ingredients. On Valentine's Day at Puella Care in Takarazaki, Sudachi helps manage the busy shop. Livia points out how Sudachi's promotional efforts are bringing in new customers. Mikage and other Magical Girls arrive to thank them for the shared chocolates. After closing, Sudachi exchanges handmade chocolates with Livia and Yozuru, and they admire each other's chocolate styles while bantering. Sudachi hesitates before revealing she made chocolates for her parents but didn't deliver them. When Livia and Yozuru notice the remaining chocolates, Sudachi explains about her parents' message. Despite the exhaustion, Livia insists on driving Sudachi to visit her parents that night and Yozuru joins the plan as Sudachi protests but ultimately agrees.
Episode 3 - Greeting the World Beyond Her Nest: While approaching Sudachi's home, Livia's trailer gets stuck on narrow roads near Sudachi's house. Sudachi insists on walking the rest of the way alone and as she walks, she encounters a crying man who recognizes her. He reveals he's the father of one of her deceased classmates, and shares his grief over losing his daughter. Sudachi struggles with guilt but ultimately encourages him before leaving. At her parents' house, they greet her warmly using newly learned sign language. They enjoy the chocolates Sudachi made and her parents reveal they've been considering moving away to escape their painful memories. Sudachi refuses, explaining through sign language that she wants to keep their home as her place to return to. She acknowledges the painful memories but emphasizes her love for their home and town. Her parents accept her decision and promise to maintain the house for her. After their heart-to-heart conversation, Sudachi prepares to leave and her parents send her off warmly, affirming their home will always be waiting for her. Sudachi departs with a renewed sense of connection to her past and family. |
Personality
Prior to the incident which caused her to make her wish, Sudachi was kind, but also habitually withdrawn, keeping to herself and actively avoiding any kind of social conflict or trouble.
Her class unanimously selecting her as the disposable hostage, as well as the criminal's remark that no one cared if she died, inflicted a lot of emotional pain on her. She couldn’t comprehend why it had to be her when she’d never caused any trouble, so she impulsively made her wish to be the only one to be rescued.
After witnessing the massacre of her entire class while she alone is spared, the criminal's justification where he saw her as a "kindred outcast soul" drove the guilt deeper. The trauma shattered her psychologically and left her with debilitating PTSD, all-consuming guilt, and self-loathing. Her ability to speak was also severely impaired, either from aphasia or selective mutism, but as a Magical Girl, she sometimes communicates telepathically with other Magical Girls, but to ordinary people, she can only speak through nonverbal noises.
After meeting Livia, she follows her and Yozuru to Kamihama, hoping that if she worked as a Coordinator, she'd be able to compensate for the bad things she's done, however she herself doubts she deserves it. Though she still wants to connect to others, she is greatly scared of rejection if her past is known. Mikage's friendship after learning the complete truth about Sudachi's wish greatly touches her.
In her day-to-day life, she's shown to love cute things and activities such as playing games, cooking and baking.
During the events of Magia Record, she makes progress towards healing from her trauma in many ways. She makes a point out of not moving from Takarazaki despite the pain it caused her, instead determined to face her past. She is able to eventually recover from her mutism and begins to recover her speech over time.

Magia Record
Powers and Abilities
In Chapter 2 of Magia Record's 2nd arc, Sudachi takes Shizuka Tokime from Hokuyo mountains all the way to Livia Medeiros' Puella Care caravan. It is possible that in addition to her innate wish-given destructive magic, she has this form of mild teleportation, however she may have also taken Shizuka to the caravan by sheer agility and speed.
Like other Coordinators, Sudachi can "adjust" the Soul Gems of Magical Girls, including herself, to make permanent changes, such as making them stronger, or altering aspects about them, from their appearance, powers, and to some extent, their inner self.
In battle, she fights by extending the cloth from her cloak in may different ways. She can wrap opponents with it, hit them, wrap it around herself into a drill shape, as well as extend it from the ground as drill spikes.
Sudachi's unique ability is the power to "reorientate" people's emotions, making them think and feel differently regarding anything. It seems, because of her Adjustor nature, that her power is similar to one of a Witch's Kiss, however it can be applied to Magical Girls as well. With this power, she was able to make the Magical Girls in Takarazaki trust their Coordinator business when they previously were adverse to it. She even used it on accident when coordinating a girl, attempting to make her stronger, and also made her lose her feelings of gratitude for Kuroe and made her be loyal to and protect a Witch that she was previously attacking.
In her Valentine's Day form, Sudachi attacks by manifesting sweets, mostly cookies, and throwing them at enemies. She can also manipulate the ones in her outfit, such as the heart she carries around on her back, and make them float around, become bigger, etc.
Her Doppel, Breadman, is able to float and drift around freely as well as turn its ears into a mouth to attack with.
Observations
- Sudachi's character design incorporates a vampire aesthetic, notably her cape and the styling of her hair when she's transformed, which resembles bat ears. This motif is a metaphor for her making her contract and becoming a Magical Girl, with it being as a negative sort of metamorphosis, or rebirth. Much like a vampire who sustains itself at the cost of others, Sudachi's wish ensured only her own survival, leading to the death of her classmates.
- Her transformation sequence also begins with Sudachi crouched in a fetal position, a representation of being "reborn" into her new life as a Magical Girl.
- Her Doppel is reference to the nursery rhyme "The Gingerbread Man," in which the titular Gingerbread Man was being hunted down and in an escape from the people and the animals chasing him down. As the line says, "Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
- Its form is also that of a humanoid cookie, and despite its cheerful, childlike appearance, it acts on pure instinct for its own enjoyment, unaffected by the concepts of sin or the pain it causes.
- Sudachi, along with the other Coordinators, also have a magician aesthetic. Sudachi specifically due to her ears resembling a rabbit pulled from a hat, with her cape resembling the top hat, and Sudachi herself being the rabbit.
Etymology
- The characters of her last name mean "assistant" or "help" (佐) and "harmony/peace" (和) respectively.
- The characters of her first name mean "moon" (月), "exit" (出), and "village" (里) respectively.
- Sudachi's given name is also the name of a sour Japanese citrus fruit, and her surname is a homonym of the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "sour". Together, her name can be read as "sour fruit" or "sour sour fruit", contrasting her candy-themed Doppel.
Trivia
- Following her trauma, Sudachi only speaks unintelligibly through the game. When speaking to other Magical Girls she uses her telepathy to communicate. Her voice lines, however, are translated when checking them. It is possible to make her talk normally by buying a special item in the shop.
- According to Nayuta's MGS, she can't enter the School building because of psychological trauma.
- Her illustrator, Akio Watanabe, also illustrated the Monogatari crossover characters.
- Her Doppel is not designed by the Inu Curry team, but by Akio Watanabe.
- Her Valentine's design bears a resemblance to her own doppel. With the third eye, candy aesthetic and animal cookie ears.
- Additionally, a cookie resembling it is featured in her 5-star art.
