Side Story
Yachiyo Nanami's Side Story
Yachiyo's side story occurs around a year before Iroha Tamaki came to Kamihama City. It begins with Yachiyo having Momoko Togame, Rena Minami, and Kaede Akino over at her house. After Yachiyo excuses herself, Kaede says it's a big house, and Momoko explains it used to be a boarding house. Kaede says this is only the second time Rena and herself met Yachiyo. Rena says the first time was when they were fighting a witch in "Shinnishi" and Momoko says they just ran into her this time. It turns out Momoko met Yachiyo two years ago, right when she became a magical girl. Even now, she sometimes teams up with her. Kaede is amazed that Yachiyo has six years of experience. Momoko says not to bring that up, because Yachiyo believes it makes her sound old.
Yachiyo returns with snacks. She says as magical girls they need to get along. Momoko invites her friends to ask Yachiyo anything. Unable to think of a question, Kaede asks her favorite food, and Yachiyo says it's soba. The narration states that most of the questions the girls asks Yachiyo were safe ones. Afterward, Yachiyo leaves to make tea. Rena helps herself to a donut Yachiyo left behind. When she returns, Yachiyo quickly notices her donut is missing and pegs Rena as the culprit. Rena apologizes, and Yachiyo says it's alright. Yachiyo explains she saw the sugar from the donut around Rena's lips. When Momoko points out they all ate donuts earlier, Yachiyo says the others wiped their mouths when they stopped eating a little while ago. Kaede and Momoko say Yachiyo is a detective, but Yachiyo says that would be an insult to Holmes and Poirot.
When it gets late, Momoko's team prepares to leave. However, Kaede remembers they have something to bring up with Yachiyo. Momoko asks her if she knows about the "Dueling Girl". While they only know about it from another magical girl, there's apparently a magical girl that randomly challenges others to a duel. Rena says she's supposedly pretty strong. Yachiyo thanks them and says she'll let her other friends know. She says that if the others see the Dueling Girl they should call her immediately. Yachiyo thinks she has to protect those kids, and wonders what sort of person the Dueling Girl is.
Several days later, Momoko's team encounters the Dueling Girl and contacts Yachiyo. The Dueling Girl introduces herself as Tsuruno Yui, who wants to return honor to her family name. She says she'll defeat them all for her grand ambition. When Rena asks her to explain, Tsuruno says she won't waste her breath. Yachiyo says she doesn't want to fight without a reason. Tsuruno reluctantly admits she wants to be the strongest magical girl, which equals the highest honor. Rena still doesn't understand. Yachiyo says she will be Tsuruno's opponent.
As the battle begins, the other girls see that Tsuruno is really strong, but Yachiyo perfectly counters her moves. Tsuruno is able to land a hit on Yachiyo, who decides to change tactics. When Tsuruno sees an opening, she hits Yachiyo...who disappears. Suddenly Tsuruno hears the real Yachiyo say that was just a dummy. Yachiyo then uses magic to wrap Tsuruno up in rope. Tsuruno realizes she was tricked, and asks to be finished off. Momoko and Kaede says to just end the fight now, but Yachiyo seems to consider Tsuruno's request. She appears to attack, but it turns out she was only removing Tsuruno's rope. Yachiyo says that Tsuruno should stop doing this or else she will really be in trouble someday.
Yachiyo asks why Tsuruno wants to be the strongest. Tsuruno answers it's to obtain the highest honor. Next, Yachiyo asks if the highest honor can only be obtained through strength, and Tsuruno says you have to be number one. Yachiyo then asks what Tsuruno will do once she reaches her goal. Tsuruno says she has to achieve something big. Yachiyo asks if Tsuruno means to continue until she's hurt lots of people. Tsuruno denies this and says she wants to become "the strongest magical girl who pierces evil". Yachiyo finally asks what Tsuruno wants to do after she and her allies finish hurting each other. A stuttering Tsuruno says she's wrong, and shouts she has to become the strongest.
Yachiyo and Tsuruno fight six more times, with Yachiyo winning each time. Yachiyo asks if Tsuruno has any Grief Seeds. Tsuruno answers it's none of her business. Yachiyo says she can't forgive magical girls hurting each other. She says Tsuruno doesn't know how to use her strength, that being a magical girl is difficult, and for that reason they should be friends. She tells Tsuruno to stop dueling and claims Tsuruno herself knows she been doing something wrong. Tsuruno starts crying and runs off. Yachiyo wonders if Tsuruno understood. In her narration, Yachiyo admits it felt like she was halfway near the end of her rope.
Several days later, Momoko's team runs into Tsuruno again. Kaede runs to get Yachiyo while the other two keep Tsuruno busy. Yachiyo arrives to find Momoko unconscious. Rena says that she and Momoko tried talking to Tsuruno, who started mumbling. Tsuruno claims she was just trying to meet Yachiyo again. Yachiyo says the place suddenly became pitch-black before she arrived. Rena says that after the black out Momoko was knocked out. Rena claims that Tsuruno used magic to make the place dark and attack Momoko but Tsuruno says she can't use magic like that. Yachiyo looks at Tsuruno and agrees it wasn't Tsuruno who did it. She then attacks Tsuruno, who suddenly turns into a familiar!
Yachiyo explains that a witch set a trap for them to turn the girls against she other. She believes the actual Tsuruno was captured by the witch. Kaede, Rena and Yachiyo defeat the witch and rescue Tsuruno. Afterward, Rena claims Yachiyo is a detective and asks how she figured it out. Yachiyo says that if you concentrate and look at the enemy, you can roughly sense their psychological state. Yachiyo says she's not a detective because using supernatural abilities is against the rules of mysteries. Tsuruno suddenly starts saying she lost completely, and asks if she can be Yachiyo's apprentice.
Suddenly Momoko begins to wake up. Rena starts explaining what happened to her, and wonders if Yachiyo used her magic to learn who took the donut from earlier. The narration states that Tsuruno stopped dueling others. While she did not become Yachiyo's apprentice, she did become a "friend" to Yachiyo and Momoko's team. It's explained that the bond between them would be shattered due to a future incident, but back then, Yachiyo believed that she would protect everyone, no matter what. Yachiyo narrates that witches also have tricks up their sleeves, and that she'll have to be careful from now on.

Yachiyo Nanami's Costume Stories
Yachiyo finds her old high school uniform when cleaning her room. She remembers the times she spent with Mifuyu Azusa, Kanae Yukino, and Mel Anna. However, she only thinks of really awkward memories, including times when Kanae and Mel thought she doesn't look like a high school student. Yachiyo then tries remembering a time with Momoko, but that ends the same way. At this point, Iroha enters. She says Yachiyo looks good in her old uniform, much to Yachiyo's relief.
Tsuruno walks in on Yachiyo getting ready for a ‘coming of age’ photoshoot in her kimono, and playfully expresses her admiration and jealousy for Yachiyo now being an adult, while she herself is still a minor. Yachiyo assures her that she is getting older with every passing second, and that she will catch up to her in adulthood, (which Tsuruno keeps referring to as a set of stairs), before she even realizes it. Tsuruno whines, stating that being an adult sounds lonely, but is told that adults can still have fun. The two are suddenly interrupted by Iroha and Sana, who quickly get excited by Yachiyo’s outfit. After they take a few pictures for themselves, Yachiyo speed walks out of the house, thankfully getting to her appointment on time.
At the beach, Iroha asks Yachiyo how she keeps her skin pale. Yachiyo says it's food, but then clarifies it's white food, such as rice, squid, or tofu. Yachiyo admits she has to use sunscreen when modeling, and finds it a hassle. Iroha, Rena and Tsuruno figure that Yachiyo is just naturally pale, and wonder if Yachiyo was being serious earlier.
Iroha, Tsuruno, Sana and Felicia watch a horror story show at night. Iroha and Sana want to go to sleep because they are too scared, but Tsuruno and Felicia insist on continuing watching the story, but Yachiyo appears and scolds them both for being so noisy at night. Then, Yachiyo asks what they are watching and Tsuruno shows her the ghost story show they watch, but the story is still terrifying for Iroha and Sana. Yachiyo is disappointed saying that only elementary school children are scared by that and it is something he would expect from Felicia, which bothers her. Iroha asks Yachiyo if she doesn't get scared by ghost stories, and Yachiyo says no because ghosts don't exist...
That night Yachiyo can't sleep and goes down to drink water from her mug. Yachiyo meets Iroha in the kitchen and she reveals that she couldn't sleep because of the ghost stories she heard. At that moment a noise sounds and Iroha is scared, but Yachiyo tells her that it's just the wind hitting the window. At that moment one of the lights goes out and Iroha is scared, but Yachiyo tells her that the light is out because it is fluorescent and she must change it. Iroha thanks Yachiyo for calming her down, but at that moment footsteps are heard, Iroha wonders who she is but Yachiyo assures that it is Felicia trying to scare them and tells her to come out from where she is hiding. Felicia asks how Yachiyo knew it was her, and Yachiyo reveals that she saw her shadow on the living room floor. At that moment the three girls hear a noise and wonder what it is, since Yachiyo cannot identify it. At first they think she may be Sana, but when they search they find nothing. While searching, Iroha and Felicia feel something brush against their feet, and they get scared. Yachiyo also claims to have felt something, but Iroha and Felicia are so scared that they flee to their rooms before Yachiyo can see what it is. She crouches down and finds Mokyu trembling under the table, Yachiyo says that she knows that ghosts are not real, but seeing how Mokyu seems so scared for no reason, she is not so sure of her statement...
Yachiyo ends up sleeping in, due to working on a collage essay late in the night. Iroha and Ui make her some miso soup with fish for breakfast, which perks her up a bit. Ui curiously asks about how hard collage essays are, as she wants to one day go to collage herself to become a music teacher. Iroha explains that every department of collage is different, so she wouldn’t always be doing the exact same school work that Yachiyo is currently doing. When asked about what the essay was about, Yachiyo reveals that it was about philosophy, which shocks the two sisters. However, she doesn’t regret staying up late, as her lack of sleep somehow made the miso soup taste better than usual, and that it was particularly prepared by Ui and Iroha, making the latter blush.
Yachiyo just completed another photoshoot, and has taken a liking to the dress she wore for the shoot. Considering on getting it for herself, she looks up the company’s price range on her phone, only to audibly gasp when she gets her answer. A staff member hears her gasp and asks if she’s ok,but she dismisses any indication that she was wanting the outfit.
Several weeks later, the mail arrives at Mikazuki Villa, which included Yachiyo’s photoshoot in a magazine. While looking through it, Iroha comments that the dress Yachiyo wore really suited her. A bit dejected, Yachiyo shows Iroha the price of the dress, who shares a very similar reaction to Yachiyo’s, somewhat embarrassing her, though she appreciates the compliments.
Some time later, Yachiyo is called back to do another photoshoot with the expensive dress. Apparently after the magazine was published, the company got a surge of popularity, with the dress expected to sell out in the near future.
The stylist then tells Yachiyo to take the dress she’s wearing home as a thank you gift. Although grateful, Yachiyo is embarrassed that they found out how much she wanted it, but at least Iroha will now get to see the dress in person.
New Magical Girls who have teamed up and promised to become stronger together. The first impressions they had of each other were bad, but while being at the mercy of the battle, they held hands and became close friends when they noticed. For the two busy people, they're looking forward to going to the candy store in between.

Yachiyo & Mifuyu's (Starting Out) Side Story
Kanae Yukino arrives at the Mikazuki Villa and finds a letter addressed to Yachiyo's grandmother, so she decides to enter the Village to give her the letter. Yachiyo's grandmother apologizes for being nosy, but Kanae says it doesn't bother her and also admits to being nosy too, saying that she found a letter for her and went to deliver it to her, but Yachiyo's grandmother thanks her for bringing her the mail. Yachiyo's grandmother proceeds to offer Kanae tea, but she offers to make it at her place and is embarrassed when Yachiyo's grandmother says that the day has come to try tea made by Kanae. Yachiyo's grandmother is happy, because seeing Kanae reminds her of Yachiyo and she feels like she is seeing her grow up again, saying that she felt the same when Yachiyo made tea for her. Kanae is surprised that Yachiyo's grandmother remembers something like that, and the old woman reveals that she also remembers that the first dish Yachiyo made her was miso soup and her first gift was a ticket for a shoulder massage. Back in the present, Kanae becomes sad. Yachiyo's grandmother asks her what is happening and she says that since they were little girls, Yachiyo and Mifuyu have always worked to help others, while she only brings problems to others and is incapable of helping people, Yachiyo's grandmother Yachiyo laughs and apologizes to Kanae, saying that there are no children who don't cause trouble. Kanae asks if she is serious and Yachiyo's grandmother says that even nowadays she is still a bit troublesome. At that moment Yachiyo appears, next to Mifuyu, saying that it is partly true. Side Story
Yachiyo Nanami's (Tanabata) Side Story
The story begins on the morning of Mizuna's Tanabata festival, and also the debut of the drama that Yachiyo and Tsuruno performed in (see the Tanabata event story). As part of the event, they've been asked to wear their costumes and give a speech for the screening to promote the event. Since the screening doesn't start until the evening, they decide to make a day of it with everyone in Mikazuki Villa, since there will be plenty to do before the show.
Throughout the story, the game interface frequently switches into one that looks like a video is being recorded (like the Rec indicator in the upper-right corner); this is because Tsuruno explains she wants to film their day together, and do interviews with everyone for the sake of making memories. Yachiyo is happy to do so, but reminds Tsuruno to ensure she herself gets some footage, too - she's the other star of the show, after all. Ui, meanwhile, hopes they can see the Milky Way later that night, but Iroha remarks they can't see it in the city - Yachiyo wishes they could, though.
The festival is bustling when they arrive. Sana recognizes her friends from Mizuna helping out, like Manaka and Tsumugi working at a food stall, and remarks how they all gave her lots of recommendations for what to do. Before the Mikazuki girls scurry off, Yachiyo wants to stop everyone for something - Felicia immediately assures her if she gets lost, she has her phone, so they don't need to go to the lost kids center, and they don't have to worry about getting hit by cars, either, etc, etc, etc (Tsuruno laughs at how much of a guardian Yachiyo has grown to be) - but Yachiyo actually just wants to give them all some allowance for the festival. She knows that Iroha will likely try spending hers to treat Ui to something, but asks Iroha to make sure she buys herself a little something, too.
Each girl in turn gets her allowance, and last but not least, Tsuruno is given hers, too. Tsuruno protests, saying she's in high school; Yachiyo counters by saying she's in college. She reminds Tsuruno to put herself in the video again, so Tsuruno sets it to selfie mode to get them all in the shot. After some final safety reminders from Yachiyo, the girls split into teams of Iroha and Ui, and Felicia and Sana, and scamper off to explore sights and foods of the festival.
After some time, Felicia and Sana head back to Yachiyo and Tsuruno, recommending they try the bamboo dumplings from Manaka and Tsumugi's stall. While Tsuruno and Yachiyo had sampled them during their rehearsals, Sana explains Manaka had been improving them steadily ever since. Tsuruno and Yachiyo head over to buy some, and confirm it's somehow even better than before. When Iroha and Ui return, they learn that since they visited the stall, everyone at the festival took it as a recommendation, and now the line to buy bamboo dumplings is massive! As much Yachiyo likes the dumplings, she gives the leftovers to Iroha and Ui, since they weren't able to buy any for themselves.
In return, Iroha and Ui guide the others around the best sights and attractions at the festival. It makes Iroha remember one she attended with her parents when she was little - at one point, she turned around, and saw her parents smiling at her - which made her very happy in turn, and gave her a fuzzy, indescribable feeling she couldn't place. And at this festival with her friends, and seeing Yachiyo smile - that feeling has returned once more.
Yachiyo spots the show's director, and goes to thank him. In their conversation, it comes up that Yachiyo is being offered and accepting more acting jobs ever before after performing in the Mizuna show . The director says he'd be happy to work with her again - and Tsuruno, too. Yachiyo tries to get Tsuruno to greet the director, too, but Tsuruno is busy recording; the director isn't bothered one bit, and sends Yachiyo back to her friends. He's a director, after all - he know full well about the need to capture something that can only be recorded now.
By watching Yachiyo, the indescribable feeling in Iroha finally clicks, and Tsuruno pulls her aside for a mini-interview. There, Iroha explains that when she looked back and saw Yachiyo smiled, Iroha realized that feeling was one of security, knowing Yachiyo was there and watching over everyone. Iroha feels blessed, cherishing the fact they can all spend time together like this. Iroha's soon flustered that she was so forthright, but Tsuruno tells her not to worry - what matters is that it was heartfelt. The first part closes with Yachiyo's voiced line saying she wants everyone to enjoy themselves to the fullest on special days like this one.
In part 2, everyone decides to get some water slide noodles for lunch. Various antics occur as the characters struggle to different extents to catch their food, such as Ui struggling to pluck out the baby tomatoes from the rushing water, but Yachiyo saves the day by catching food for everyone. Tsuruno needs her lunch, too, but it's hard for her to both operate the camera and eat...so Yachiyo resolves that problem by feeding Tsuruno instead, before getting Tsuruno to get herself recorded, too.
In all this, Felicia realizes Yachiyo hasn't been eating, either, what with working hard to get everyone their lunch (Felicia, of course, has piled tons of meat onto her noodles; Yachiyo makes her add some vegetables, too). Felicia tries to share some of food with Yachiyo, but Yachiyo is more concerned about making sure Felicia got everything she wanted. Felicia gets a bit frustrated, insisting Yachiyo eat something, and Yachiyo finally accepts Felicia's plate. Tsuruno takes the chance to interview Felicia for a bit, asking her how she feels. Felicia doesn't know exactly what she feels - but knows she does feel all warm on the inside.
Next up, they go to make free bamboo boats; the Mizuna canal is full of ones festivalgoers have made. Iroha goes around assisting everyone, and Tsuruno keeps the camera running. Sana sneaks off to a corner so she doesn't cause any trouble for all the normal human participants due to her invisibility, but struggles with making the boat on her own - she keeps cutting herself on the bamboo. Yachiyo and Tsuruno spot her and realize she's hurt, though, and rush over to help.
When Sana berates herself for being clumsy, Yachiyo reveals she's accidentally cut herself, too, since it's been so long since she last handled bamboo leaves. Sana is in awe that Yachiyo can make klutzy mistakes like that, too, which prompts Yachiyo to elaborate even more - as a kid, there were times she scraped her knees playing tag just before a model shoot, which always frustrated her manager. Other times, she gets snippy at her manager, and another time, when she couldn't get something off a high shelf, she jumped up and ended up knocking it straight onto her head. This cheers up Sana greatly.
Yachiyo wants to get Sana patched up, though Sana assures her she'll be fine - they're magical girls, after all - but Yachiyo says she doesn't want to keep Sana in pain any longer than necessary. And besides, it's not like Sana can go to a normal doctor for treatment. But that's the thing, though - Sana doesn't feel hurt anymore, but does accept Yachiyo's treatment. Once that's done, Felicia gets frustrated with her boat and gripes loudly, and Yachiyo scurries over to help her, too; this allows for Tsuruno to interview Sana this time. In it, Sana reveals that she really, truly doesn't feel hurt anymore - Yachiyo noticed she was in pain, and came to help her. That alone made her feel incredibly happy and healed.
With the boats done, the girls gather together to drop them into the canal. Sana points out that dropping hers in will spook everyone gathered, since it would look like a ship randomly spawned out of nowhere, so Yachiyo and Sana hold the boat together so they can drop it in at once - that way, it'll just look like Yachiyo added two boats herself. Ui thinks about how Yachiyo is a "bigger sister than my big sister," but also not quite a mother figure, either - she hopes she'll be like Yachiyo when she grows up. While thinking, Ui spots a lost item, and wants to drop it off with the organizers - Iroha moves to join her, but Ui abruptly runs off on her own, insisting she'll be fine, without showing anyone else what she found. Tsuruno and Yachiyo go off to follow.
It turns out Ui had found someone's wishing paper, with their wish scrawled upon it. Once she returns it, the organizers offer to let her make her wish, too. She graciously refuses and returns to her group. Along the way, she mulls over the odd relationship magical girls have with wishes - even though making wishes is a huge part of the festival, none of the magical girls have been talking about it. Making wishes is a significant part of a magical girl's life, but there are many who regret their wishes and don't want to think about it more than necessary; Ui doesn't want to tread on anyone feelings, and so she hasn't told anyone that she really wants to write down a wish of her own.
She bumps into Tsuruno and Yachiyo on her way back, and Yachiyo connects the dots - Ui claims she just wanted to look at everyone's wishes, but Yachiyo assures her that if she wants to write one, just say so. Ui says it could make the others uncomfortable, but Yachiyo brushes it off - the point of the festival is to let everyone do what they want to, and if Ui denies herself, that's what will really make everyone sad. Tsuruno pipes in, saying she wants Ui to have happy memories, too, and to make this one where they walk away from with no regrets. Ui decides to grab the wish papers for everyone - but Tsuruno catches her for another interview once they're alone, where Ui explains how happy she was that Yachiyo pushed her to do what she wanted, and Ui hopes she can encourage people like that in the future.
Later, Iroha thanks Yachiyo for helping Ui - Iroha had her suspicions, but didn't know how to approach the issue. Yachiyo says it's just part of her responsibilities in being the oldest. Felicia complains, saying that when she calls Yachiyo old, Yachiyo gets mad, but when Yachiyo calls herself old, its okay for some reason. Yachiyo says it's because Felicia makes it sound like a bad thing - getting older and gaining responsibilities is good.
While the others all banter about that, Tsuruno contemplates what her wish will be. She doesn't want to become a Witch, but she doesn't regret having ever made her wish, either. Sana and Felicia must feel otherwise. She knows that Yachiyo must have mixed feelings over her own wish, too - far more than Tsuruno does. But this train of thought makes her realize that the reason Yachiyo can push the others around (in a good way) is because she's older than them - even Tsuruno.
Tsuruno reflects on everyone's interviews so far...and smiles to herself at how Yachiyo really is a guardian and older sister figure to everyone. Yachiyo notices her smiling about something, but Tsuruno brushes her off. She thinks about how Yachiyo is dense in a very specific way: She's sensitive to everyone else's pain, but when it comes to herself, she's totally clueless over how much respect and admiration she gets from others. So in her interview to the camera, she explains that while Yachiyo can be dense, she's incredibly kind - and that's why Tsuruno loves her the way she does.
In the last part, after an eventful day, all that's left on the docket the screening! That means Yachiyo and Tsuruno have to deliver their pre-show speech. While Yachiyo goes off to get a drink of water beforehand, Tsuruno huddles up with the others, explaining she's going to compile the videos and interviews into a thank you gift for Yachiyo. Ui wants to prepare another present in addition to that, though, and they all wrack their heads for a Tanabata-related gift - eventually, Iroha thinks a planetarium trip might do the trick, since they can't see the Milky Way in the city...which gives Ui an idea.
Yachiyo returns to the group, and they all act like nothing's going on. Before she and Tsuruno leave, though, Tsuruno asks Ui to take care of the gift. We get to see part of the pre-show event where Sayuki, Yachiyo, and Tsuruno introduce themselves and their roles. Even though Tsuruno isn't a local celebrity, the audience fawns over her cheer and great smile.
As the performance begins, Yachiyo and Tsuruno note to each other how the other one seems nervous - and know it's because their friends are watching. Sayuki reassures them both, saying it is embarrassing to be watched by your own friends, but once they realize everyone is enjoying it, that embarrassment will evaporate in a flash.
At the end of the show and the Q&A session, all that's left is for Tsuruno, Yachiyo, and Sayuki to give their last words. Tsuruno hopes everyone has a favorite scene that will remain with them long after the show's over, while Sayuki encourages everyone to visit the local zoo to see the magpies. Yachiyo thanks everyone for coming out to see them.
After rousing applause, they reunite with Mikazuki, where Yachiyo remarks she was stunned that someone at the Q&A recognized them from the Magical Halloween Theater performance, which really threw off her and Tsuruno. All that's done, though - but before they can go home, Tsuruno and Yachiyo have to do their rounds of thanking everyone involved in the show. Everyone else at Mikazuki goes on ahead, since that buys tie for them to get Yachiyo's gift ready. Before they go their separate ways, Tsuruno assures the others she's finished preparing the video, too.
On their way home, Tsuruno and Yachiyo walk home together. Yachiyo thinks they should have changed out of their costumes, but Tsuruno wants to stay like they are a little while longer - it makes her feel like they're both Orihime and Hikoboshi, even though they can't see the stars from here. Yachiyo fusses over whether they need to get dinner, but Tsuruno assures her they've eaten plenty at the festival. But as they turn to Mikazuki, Yachiyo's heart stops when she sees the lights are still shut off - she panics, and rushes into the house...
...Only to see a starry light show filling the living room, and everyone thanking her. Tsuruno apologizes for giving Yachiyo a fright, but it was all to show their appreciation - with Mikazuki's very own Milky Way. Yachiyo is already emotional over the gift, but that's not all - next up is the video, where we see excerpts from everyone's interviews throughout the day, which makes Yachiyo even more overwhelmed. She can't put her feelings in words, but says she's just happy - so happy - that they’re all together - that this really is the best gift she's ever received. They put the light show back on, and Yachiyo ends the story with a voice line noting she has another treasure to treasure, and realizing she's crying, now, but this time, her tears are those of joy.
This Magical Girl pair was able to obtain a strength that supported them during a battle with an overwhelmingly strong Witch. Although they started off as enemies, they wound up becoming the best of friends, connected by an unbreakable bond. Their wings can only be seen the moment that power is ready.

Iroha and Yachiyo enter the crowded grocery store where a big sale is going on that day. Felicia is growling for some meat for dinner. Tsuruno thinks she looks like she's starving but Yachiyo clarifies they had meat the other night already. As much as Felicia would like to have meat for dinner everynight, it's too expensive and not very healthy. Felicia says that's not true and quotes her favorite show DecagonBall "Ya can't get stronger if ya don't eat meat!" Tsuruno remembers that episode, but Yachiyo stands firm in her decision and tells Felicia to behave. Felicia pouts that she'll never get stronger like this. Tsuruno asks if she's just going to give up and quotes a line from the latest episode, reminding her that the path to victory is found in the deepest despair. Felicia doesn't consider something like this deep despair, but according to Tsuruno feeling despair is the correct response to not being able to eat meat. Felicia thinks she gets it now so she runs off smiling. Iroha has a bad feeling about this, so Yachiyo urges them to hurry and get what they came for.
The group finishes shopping and go to the register. They haven't seen Felicia in a while so they wonder if maybe she went home upset. The cashier gives them their total but the amount is way too expensive. As Yachiyo looks over their groceries, it seems Felicia has already come back and had placed a large piece of very expensive meat in their shopping cart when they weren't looking. The cashier asks them to please wrap it what they're doing because there are a long line of customers behind them. If they want to put something back, they'll have to get out of the line to do so. Yachiyo sighs and ends up buying the meat.
Back home Ui is scolding Felicia for what she did. Felicia has no regrets as she imagines putting the big hunk of meat on the grill and taking a bite out of it. Ui begins to drool a bit as Yachiyo and Iroha stare at her. Ui claims she wasn't thinking about how good it would taste at all. Yachioyo tells her it's okay since she's the one who bought it after all. She just needs to make sure that this never happens again. Felicia is ready to take any punishment so long as she gets to have some of the meat first and looks to Tsuruno for agreement since it was Tsuruno that gave her the idea. Tsuruno swears she was just trying to cheer her up when she quoted the show, but Felicia misinterpreted it and decided to act fast before they could get to the register. As punishment, Yachiyo is not letting either Felicia or Tsuruno have any meat today. The two of them cry out in astonishment, but Yachiyo decides this is too harsh a punishment and has them organize the storage room instead.
The group finishes up dinner and Felicia is stuffed. She calls the meat amazing and Tsuruno points out it was super high quality, expensive meat after all. Felicia wasn't aware since she just grabbed the biggest piece she could find. Yachiyo has everyone pitch in to help with the dishes so they can just relax for the rest of the night, but Felicia is too full to move. Yachiyo warns her she'll turn into a cow if she just takes a nap right away, but Felicia doesn't mind if that means she doesn't have to help with dishes. Tsuruno thinks that sounds like fun so the two stand around going "moo" and pretending to be cows. Since they won't help with dishes, Yachiyo has them get started on organizing the storage room instead. Tsuruno asks if she has to help, but Yachiyo insists she needs to help keep an eye on Felicia since she'll just goof around otherwise.
Iroha and the others are enjoying their tea when they decide to check up on Felicia. But Felicia has already come back from the storage room and she’s eager to show them a photo she found. Yachiyo sees what the photo is and immediately snatches it from Felicia’s hands. Tsuruno catches up to her and tells Yachiyo that she tried to stop her but the photo was too special. The group gathers around Yahciyo to look, and they see a very young Yachiyo standing with a group of other people in the photo. Iroha guesses they must be the modeling group that Yachiyo used to be a part of. Yachiyo tells Iroha that she’s right, and explains she used to be part of a modeling group that would do different photo shoots together until the group disbanded. Felicia figures it must have been more fun as a group than going alone, and Yachiyo stares at the photo for a moment before agreeing with her. Yachiyo says the leader back then couldn’t handle it. She snatches the photo out of Felicia’s hands, saying it’s nothing important. Yachiyo asks if they’re done organizing the storage room, but the two just giggle since they got distracted by the photo album.
It’s late at night and Iroha yawns as she walks about in her pajamas. She notices that Yachiyo is also up and notices she’s looking at her bank book. She asks if things aren’t looking so good for the month and Yachiyo looks up and says they’re not. The meat that Felicia had them buy really set them back. Iroha asks if there’s anything they can do, but Tsuruno is already working at Banbanzai and Iroha isn’t old enough to get a job. Iroha wonders to herself what she can do since she knows she can’t keep depending on Yachiyo all the time. Yachiyo decides to call her modeling agency to adjust her schedule. Iroha asks if it’s hard being a model and Yachiyo responds that it’s much harder than it looks, since the camera can see if you’re not confident in yourself. Yachiyo asks if Iroha was interested in trying but Iroha quickly declines, saying she only asked because of the picture they saw earlier. She knows it must have been hard for Yachiyo, but Iroha simply thought Yachiyo looked amazing in it. Yachiyo smiles and thanks Iroha for the compliment. Iroha wishes her goodnight and heads back upstairs, but her face has a troubled expression on it. She knows she can’t get a part-time job, but there must be something she can do. Iroha wonders if it was wrong to ask a pro how easy their job was and sighs.
Sana asks Iroha what’s wrong, startling Iroha slightly. It seems Sana couldn’t sleep either and noticed Iroha sighing to herself. Iroha informs Sana about how bad their money is looking for the month. She wants to help but doesn’t know how. Iroha apologizes for keeping Sana up and bids her goodnight.
Yachiyo meets up with her manager the next day. The manager asks Yachiyo to let her know if it gets too busy so they can adjust her schedule again. She doesn’t want Yachiyo to push herself too hard since she knows she has a lot on her shoulders for someone her age. Yachiyo thanks her for her help and promises to make their next photo shoot a success. The manager asks if she’s referring to the article about the “fashion and food of Kamihama” and informs her the other model she was supposed to be working with became ill. The publisher has been contacting other agencies to find a replacement model, but it hasn’t been easy since they need to find someone that will look just as good besides Yahciyo. They’re prepared to offer a generous sum and are even willing to work with someone who isn’t a professional. Yachiyo recalls Iroha’s questions from last night and tells the manager she has a friend who is interested in becoming a model as well. The manager is surprised to hear Yachiyo talk about a friend and asks if she can bring her here to meet with her. Yachiyo believes that Iroha was interested in modeling, but thinks it would be a little weird to do a photo shoot with Iroha. Either way she knows Iroha will say yes.
Back at home, Yachiyo asks Iroha if she can speak with her for a minute. Yachiyo tells Iroha about the photo shoot concerning food and fashion from Kamihama and how she’s going to be working with another model. But the model got sick so she wants Iroha to fill in for her. Iroha can’t believe what she’s hearing and she points out she’s not a professional. Yachiyo says that’s not a problem and she’s glad to help Iroha since she was interested in becoming a model. Those weren’t Iroha’s intentions since she was just making conversation with Yachiyo to see if she was alright, but she keeps this part to herself. Yachiyo tells Iroha it pays well and asks her to give it a try. Iroha says she’s willing to do it since she needs to learn how to not be so shy. Yachiyo thanks her and goes to inform the editor. Iroha isn’t so sure she can be a model, but she’s willing to try since the money will help and she doesn’t want this opportunity to pass her by.
Several days have passed since then and Iroha can’t stop thinking about being a model. It doesn’t feel right to her, but as a member of Mikazuki Villa she has to do what she can to help the household. Iroha has been checking out different magazines and practicing the poses in them, but she’s worried because there will be other people besides just her and Yachiyo at the shoot. Iroha is getting nervous just thinking about it, so she goes to the empty music room after school to practice. She does a few poses and asks herself if it’s any good. A voice tells her she’s not really that good and Iroha turns around to find Rena there. Iroha asks Rena what she’s doing here but Rena says she should be the one asking that. Iroha is completely embarrassed because Rena saw her posing and soon Momoko and Kaede catch up to Rena, asking her if she found what she was looking for. They notice Iroha is also in the room and ask what she’s up to. Since Iroha still looks flustered, Momoko and Kaede assure her she doesn’t have to tell them if she doesn’t want to since everyone has their secrets after all.
Iroha explains everything that’s happened to the trio. Rena asks why she would practice at school since it’s weird. Kaede tells Rena not to be rude since she practices the poses of her favorite idols all the time. Rena proudly admits she does, but unlike Iroha, she practices her poses in her room or at a concert. Momoko tells the two that’s enough and turns to Iroha, who is drowning in embarrassment. Momoko believes that Yachiyo is pushing her too hard because she may be too excited at the possibility of working with Iroha. Since Iroha doesn’t want to tell her and let her down, Momoko offers to call Yachiyo and take care of it for her. Rena calls Momoko a busybody.
Yachiyo is shopping for clothes for her and Iroha to wear for the shoot. She’s picking out something bright and cute for Iroha while she gets something a little more lowkey for herself. As she’s shopping, her phone rings. Yachiyo answers the call with a bright and chipper greeting, causing Momoko to question if it’s really Yachiyo answering. Momoko asks her how Yachiyo is feeling about the photo shoot but Yachiyo is confident they’ll do fine. Momoko tells her she’s more worried about Iroha and reminds Yachiyo she used to feel very nervous during photo shoots when she first started. Yachiyo just tells her not to worry since she’s determined to make the shoot a success and turn this into a wonderful memory for both of them. Momoko sounds worried still but Yachiyo reassures her everything will be fine. Yachiyo hasn’t felt this excited about a shoot in a long time and she’s committed to making sure Iroha feels the same way. Momoko can see she won’t be able to change Yachiyo’s mind so they hang up, with Yachiyo giving another unusually chipper send off.
Momoko hangs up the phone and tells Iroha sorry. Iroha says that’s okay since now she’s more motivated to do whatever it takes to become a good model. Rena cheerfully offers to help, since she considers it her specialty. Kaede asks if Rena had ever modeled before but Rena says she knows everything there is to know about idols so Rena offers to take her to the perfect place for her training. Ui finds them in the music room, having been looking for Iroha. Momoko and the others assure Ui that Iroha will be back by dinner since they’ll be borrowing her for awhile. Rena says they’re taking her to a place where she can be super cute.
Yachiyo happily finishes preparing some of Iroha’s favorite foods for dinner that night. She wants Iroha to be happy and in the best mindset for their upcoming shoot. Ui comes home and smells all the delicious food. Yachiyo asks where Iroha is, but ui tells them she went with the Momoko trio. Ui looks a little worried since she thought Iroha has been acting weird lately, like she’s stressed about something. Sana wonders if maybe she’s just stressed about the photo shoot. Ui figures that must be it since she never dreamed that Iroha would want to be a model. Yachiyo agrees it is a little surprising and trails off, lost in thought for a moment. She wonders outloud if maybe that was the real reason she looked stressed. Ui says Iroha wouldn’t have offered to help if she was.
Yachiyo remembers how Iroha had acted when she first told her she’d be in the photo shoot with her and tells Ui that Iroha had initially refused but eventually agreed. Sana has it figured out and tells Yachiyo that the night they had the barbecue, Iroha was really worried about their finances and wanted to do something to help, so she probably only agreed because she wanted to help pay the bills. Yachiyo kicks herself for not noticing sooner. Sana thinks Yachiyo should go have a talk with Iroha while she and Ui finish making the dinner. Yachiyo thanks Sana and tries to call Iroha, but she’s not answering.
Instead Yachiyo calls Momoko and asks to speak to Iroha. She wants to apologize to her and she’s sorry for not listening to what Momoko was trying to tell her earlier. Momoko says that’s okay and tells her where they are.
The four of them are hanging out at Ikumi’s maid café and Rena is having Iroha observe how the maids move around. They watch as Ikumi smiles and winks at a customer, so Rena has Iroha practice winking cutesy the way Ikumi does. Iroha gives it a few tries, but her hesitation is glaringly obvious as Rena points out. Rena reminds her she can’t be scared and encourages her to make her fans happy by giving her biggest and best smile. Rena makes Iroha practice smiling again as Kaede and Momoko watch. Kaede reminds Momoko that Yachiyo is on her way so they can stop the practice but it’s too late, Yachiyo has already arrived. Yachiyo calls out to Iroha and then approaches her. She apologizes for how she pushed her into the modeling job because of how excited she was and for making her worry about the finances. However, Iroha is still in mid pose and Yachiyo asks them what is going on. Rena says they’re practicing cute poses for the photo shoot. Momoko suggests they head somewhere else so Iroha and Yachiyo can have a talk.
At a different café, Yachiyo apologizes to Iroha once more. Yachiyo was just so excited at the idea of the two of them working together since she honestly thought Iroha was interested in becoming a model. Iroha says it was her fault since she was the one who brought it up and ended up giving her the wrong impression. Yachiyo realizes now that Iroha was just trying to do whatever she can to help out Mikazuki Villa, but she shouldn’t feel pressured to do something she doesn’t want to do. Iroha promises to speak up next time and asks that Yachiyo do the same and not try to do everything by herself. They may be younger than her, but all of them are on the same team. The two of them smile as both of them realize they are each worried about the other and they can each be honest with each other. Yachiyo tells her not to worry about the photo shoot since they can cancel it whenever, but Iroha still wants to try her best at it. However, Iroha is still very nervous. Even though she’d been practicing and can now do the poses thanks to Rena, her nervousness is written all over her face. It’s just like Yachiyo had told her before, “People can see your feelings through the eye of a camera.” Iroha believes she just needs to find something that lets her be herself. Yachiyo suggests she try eating her parfait before it melts so Iroha digs in. The two of them share their parfaits with each other and promise to come back and try the others on the menu. Iroha suddenly has an idea and suggests they spend time together like this in front of the camera.
Iroha and Yachiyo head back home from the photo shoot and are greeted by the MIkazuki Villa household as well as the Momoko trio. All of them were wondering how it went but Iroha is still a bit nervous. Tsuruno ventures to guess it didn’t go so well judging from her expression. Iroha proudly proclaims it was a total failure. Yachiyo explains they interviewed her and took a few pictures, but when Iroha tried to act natural they came off like sisters. When they tried to take things more seriously, Iroha became so nervous they had to call it off there. Even though it didn’t work out, they had a lot of fun and Yachiyo had them print the first photo they took. Tsuruno and the others look at the photo but Tsuruno doesn’t want to say something and be rude. Rena says she doesn’t have much to say either and points out they look like they always do in the photo. Tsuruno agrees and says you can tell that they’re really great friends in the photo. Yachiyo says their relationship is a little hard to describe, since Iroha was Yachiyo’s assistant, then her leader. But at Mikazuki Villa they’re family and anyone can tell just by looking at the photo that their relationship is the best.
Even though they ended up with a photo, they didn’t get the job so they ended up not getting paid so they’ll be on a tight food budget from now on. Felicia and Tsuruno cry out in despair.
Kamihama City's veteran Magical Girl who is also a University student. She is knowledgable about Kamihama City and Magical Girls, and works alone without a team. She is very territorial, and is harsh towards Magical Girls from other regions who lack ability. She is filing the "rumors" that occur in Kamihama City.
The Doppel of Ticket-taking. Its form is a Ticket Puncher. The master of this emotion dreams of the day when she, too, will depart on a journey, following in the footsteps of the friends whose departures she has already seen off, and has long awaited the moment when her ticket will finally be punched. Those who are injured by the pincer on the end of this Doppel’s tail are apparently guaranteed great misfortune in the near future. Its master often attempts to point the pincer towards herself, but has never succeeded in doing so. Because the range of emotional fluctuation is reduced in older individuals and in those who have lived as Puella Magi for a long time, those individuals’ Doppels may fail to completely separate from the master’s body, as is the case here.

They were mature even back then, so you can't tell the difference from their normal state unless you observe her closely. After her transformation, she was influenced by the "Ice Queen" she played in the past. But even then, she wasn't a good actress.

By accepting the fictional character she once performed as a part of herself, the master of this emotion has come to avert her eyes from the wishes that well up in her heart, continually freezing them in order to remain a strong and stalwart figure. As the only one to have realized this, her Doppel attempts to reduce its master’s burden by spraying chilly air at everyone around her. It hopes to force them to stand up and face hardship by doing so, but it can’t possibly match the speed at which its master freezes her heart.

CAMPANELLA (Campanella)
The Doppel of Ticket-Tearing. Its form is a Weatherpole. The master of this emotion has inherited a small hope from the past and has become like a mythical being. The Doppel grew in size in proportion to the amount of hope the master had inherited, and grew into a heavy stone structure, as if to represent the burden it bore. The Doppel, who wants to be released from the pressure as soon as possible, is looking for an opportunity to release its power at instantaneous maximum output in order to realize its wish. If realized, extraordinary powers such as weather manipulation would trigger storms and eruptions, transforming the earth into a newly born star. Hence, the master, who feels boundless power, remains vigilant to avoid taking the initiative.
If I listen carefully, I can hear her voice, and the days we spent together come back to me.
And yet, I feel empty because there are only remnants and no soul.
...The feelings I hold in my heart become as heavy as lead and sink into my heart.
As shown in the manga adaptation, Yachiyo uses water magic, and is capable of creating shields and spears out of water. She can use this magic even when not transformed. This is later confirmed in the anime, when her attack on the Friendship Staircase Uwasa in Episode 3 created a large wave of water. This ability to control water seems to fluctuate depending on her emotional state as the water becomes progressively more violent when she is distressed or angered.
When her soul gem turns black, Yachiyo can bring forth her doppel, Campanella. Yachiyo's doppel has varying abilities depending on the adaptation in question yet in the game, Campanella is able to create illusions and hallucinations from the lantern on it's tail. The lantern seems to be the focal point of this mental manipulation and of Camapnella's ability to create floods seemingly on command. This ability to control water seems to also carry over to the anime adaptation as well as Campanella has been shown to also be able to create large floods of water in a short span of time in this adaptation to. In the anime however these floods can get to the point where they may even drown other people if not controlled properly. This 'flood' has been shown to even be able to defeat other doppels as in the case of Mifuyu turning back to normal after fighting Yachiyo as Hevelius in the second season of the anime adaptation.
In the anime however, Campanella is slightly different in the fact that the lantern is now absent and that it possesses an extra pair of 'legs' allowing for greater mobility and evasion when summoned. Yachiyo is able to control Campanella's 'tail' better as well because she can attach it's 'pucher' to enemies to swing them around in circles or to simply throw them around. The tail can also be used to deflect certain attacks along with Campanella's legs. The doppel itself in both adaptations will cause great misfortune to whomever it has 'punched' with it's puncher which implies that Campanella will cause someone to be close to death when this occurs.
A rather notable ability of Yachiyo's is the ability to resist her doppel's control over her when she does summon it forth, the doppel has shown to be resisted by Yachiyo when it threatened to do away with Mifuyu. Most of the time, Yachiyo can control Campanella with ease due to her level-headed nature and her maturity compared to other magical girls though due to her experience compared to other members of the cast, it can be said she can withstand great trauma wether emotionally or mentally making her quite strong in these aspects.
For a time, Yachiyo believed her wish-given ability was to survive at the expense of others - thus, if she were to make friends or be the leader of a group, those people would die in ways that would allow her to survive. Eventually, she realized her true power was to "inherit hope", which made her exponentially stronger when others believed in her. Thanks to the hope of Kanae Yukino and Mel Anna, even after they died, she was made incredibly powerful and retained her immense strength even as she got older (as most magical girls tend to weaken the older they become). It may be because of this ability that Yachiyo has survived for so many years as it has given her exponential reserves of magic as a result.
Thanks to her experience and inherited hope, she was able to create hundreds, if not thousands, of her halberd at once. She can finely remotely control these halberds to use them as floating steps, and can launch them at enemies as a large, spread out volley, or as a concentrated "beam" of halberds. She can also form these halberds into defensive barriers to deflect attacks or floods of enemies as they have been shown to be strong enough to withstand a lot of damage.
After realizing her true power, Yachiyo used her ability to inherit the hope of all of Kamihama's magical girls and control it to help defeat Walpurgisnacht. She used this in conjunction with magic harvested by Ui Tamaki, converted by Touka Satomi, and finally given to Iroha Tamaki. However, because she also relinquished the hope Kanae and Mel had placed in her, she could only use this power once, after which she would begin to weaken with age like Mifuyu did. Were she to use this power once more, it's possible it would accelerate her weakening.
Etymology
The characters in her last name mean "seven" (七) and "ocean" (海), respectively.
Yachiyo in hiragana has no specific meaning, however if written with the kanji 八千代, it means “thousands of years”.

The name of her witch and doppel, Campanella, is Italian for "little bell".
The name of Yachiyo's Doppel, Campanella, is a reference the famous Japanese novel Night on the Galactic Railroad, whose main characters were named Giovanni (Iroha's Doppel, Giovanna) and Campanella. This, together with Campanella being the doppel of Ticket-clipping and Giovanna being the doppel of Silence, is irony - in Night on the Galactic Railroad, Campanella decides to answer a question in class instead of the shy Giovanni, only to stay silent so that Giovanni is less embarrassed, and it is Giovanni who owns the ticket to the galaxy. On top of that, Mifuyu's doppel is a reference to the bird catcher in the novel.
Its scorpion design is a reference to the novel's legend given for the Scorpius constellation: that a scorpion, running from a predator, fell down a well and came to lament its own selfishness, that even its death is wasteful for not feeding another. It prays that it may be of use to others, and thus combusts into flame, where it now sits in the sky to guide others with its light.
Her Doppel's name and her water magic reference Campanella drowning in the story.
In the anime, her rope-and-bead headpiece is redesigned to instead have feathers or strips of fabric. Although her in-game sprite, live2D model, and card art are unchanged, this redesign is used in the transformation sequence of Iroha・Yachiyo (Final Battle ver.), the opening video for the "The Gathering of 100 Evils" Arc, and her anime unit.
The shape of her Soul Gem, a crescent moon, reflects the name of the manor she inherited from her grandmother: Mikazuki (三日月; *three day moon*, aka *crescent moon*).
Once during elementary school, Yachiyo had short hair and Mifuyu had long hair. During the game/series' events, Yachiyo has long hair and Mifuyu has short hair.
