After Rena Minami rejects her attempt to join her team, Kaede fights a witch, but starts to lose. She thinks back to how she became a magical girl. A high-rise apartment was being built in front of her house, which would have blocked out the sun in front of her house. It threatened to ruin the family garden and made her pets act out. Kyubey arrives and makes his offer. Kaede wishes that the construction for the apartment never started. While the construction stopped, Kaede now has to be a magical girl and has been in a constant state of panic since then. She wonders if it's all a dream. Kaede is then saved by Rena and Momoko Togame. Rena apologizes for rejecting Kaede and hesitantly asks if Kaede will become her valet. Kaede agrees, despite Momoko's protests. The three agree to fight together from then on. Later, Kaede is playing a crane game at the arcade but fails miserably. Rena appears and gets the toy Kaede wanted, claiming it's an apology present. The two affirm their new friendship. Rena offers to show Kaede how to win the crane game, but it doesn't seem to work. Kaede, Momoko, and Rena then team up to fight a witch. However, Kaede is unable to attack when Rena asks her to. Afterward, Rena scolds Kaede, while Momoko tells her to cheer up. Kaede begins to think she's useless. When the group goes on their next witch hunt they decide to split up to cover more ground. Kaede inwardly thinks that she's too afraid to accept that, but feels she can't get in their way. As the girls communicate through telepathy, Kaede finds that she's stumbled into the witch's barrier. She comes across a familiar, but Rena tells her to leave it alone until they all get there. Instead, she should follow the familiar to the witch's location. Kaede tries following the familiar, but finds she's too scared to continue. Suddenly the barrier disappears, and Kaede sees Momoko and Rena. Kaede apologizes to them. Later, the group confronts the familiar from before. They follow it until they reach the witch's location. Kaede says the group should stop. Rena asks if Kaede is afraid, but Kaede is thinking the familiar is trying to trick them. Rena thinks Kaede's overthinking it and yells at Kaede for letting it get away the first time. Momoko tells Rena to stop, and tells Kaede to stick close. When the group confronts the witch, they find they can't move. The witch attacks them, dealing Momoko heavy damage. Later, when the girls are outside the barrier, Kaede thinks it's all her fault. Rena then thinks it was hers. Momoko tells them both not to worry. Kaede tells Momoko she wants to leave the team. She says she's just been causing them trouble and asks Momoko to tell Rena. Kaede then runs off. Later, Momoko tells Rena about what happened. Rena again thinks it's her fault. Momoko explains she wanted to add Kaede because she's careful when they're not. Momoko thinks she doesn't need to tell Rena what she's really saying: Go make up with Kaede. Rena then goes to find her. She finds Kaede playing the crane game again, and asks her how long is she going to continue playing when she can't win. Rena talks about what happened with the witch. Kaede apologizes, but then Rena apologizes to Kaede for not listening. Rena then tells Kaede one of her idol theories. She explains that in idol groups hiding one's personality is forbidden, so they get girls with different personalities. She thinks a magical girl team is similar. After catching the toy Kaede was trying to get, she tells Kaede that she is needed in their team and says she'll be waiting with Momoko. The next day, Rena waits at the arcade with Momoko. Momoko thinks Kaede isn't coming, but then she appears. Kaede claims she was late because she was playing the crane game trying to get a present. She presents Momoko and Kaede with copies of the toy Rena won yesterday, claiming it's the proof of their team. Momoko and Rena accept them. Afterward, Kaede admitted she spent five thousand yen trying to get both gifts. Rena says it was worth it. |

Momoko, Rena, and Kaede have all gone together to the beach to play for the day. They had just finished riding the banana boat and Rena wanted to ride it again, but Momoko had trouble staying on and decides to sit this one out. She suggests that Rena go with Kaede but Kaede gets nervous and asks Momoko if there isn’t something else she wants to try out. Since the three of them came out here together, she would rather do things with the three of them. Rena says she’s right; if it’s not going to be the three of them than what was the point. Momoko looks relieved until Rena suggests they play beach volleyball next. Momoko thinks that sounds like fun but she isn’t so sure they can play with just the three of them. Kaede looks at Rena and asks her if she’s ever even seen beach volleyball before. Rena gets irritated and suggests they split a watermelon next, but they have neither the tools nor the watermelon for that. Rena says that’s not a problem since they can just buy one, but Momoko points out how expensive watermelons are. Kaede looks at Rena and asks her if she didn’t already know that, and if she’d known that’s what they were going to do then she would have picked one from her garden. Rena is starting to get fed up while Momoko tries to come up with something else the three of them can do together. Kaede comes up with an idea and suggests they search around for marine life. Rena doesn’t see the point in that, but Kaede thinks that sea creatures are interesting. Plus there are several cute types of sea creatures. Kaede spots a hermit crab on the beach and shows it to Momoko and Rena. Momoko thinks the tiny crab is very cute as it crawls along Kaede’s hand, but Rena makes a face at it. Next, Kaede spots a starfish and shows it to Rena, but Rena tells her now to show her the gross side of the starfish. Kaede tells her it’s not gross and tries to get Rena to touch it, but Rena tells her it’s too gross and tries to squirm away. Kaede insists it’s not and grabs Rena’s hand and pulls her closer to the starfish, but Rena freaks out and tries to smack it away. She keeps telling Kaede to keep it away from her but Rena gets tangled up and ends up pulling off the frilly skirt from Kaede’s swimsuit.
Rena and Kaede are out shopping for a new outfit for winter. Rena is beginning to whine that she’s taking too long. Kaede comes out of the dressing room and asks them what they think. The sales clerk thinks it looks great on her and Kaede giggles at the compliment. Rena says nothing until Kaede prompts her for her opinion. Rena then takes a look at Kaede and is surprised at how well her new look suits her. She tells her she looks just like Ritchan from Links, but Kaede doesn’t know who she’s talking about. She asks if it’s the same girl from the idol poster she bought earlier but Rena tells her that was Saachan. When Kaede goes to ring up her purchase, the store clerk gasps and tells her congratulations in the loudest voice possible. It turns out Kaede is their 777th customer and gets to win the giant stuffed bear by the store’s entrance. Rena’s eyes widen and she asks if she means that giant bear whose head is scraping the ceiling. The store clerk nods and Rena turns to Kaede and tells her she couldn’t possibly want that. But Kaede actually had her eyes set on it and had been wanting a giant bear just like it ever since she laid eyes on it. Rena asks her how she expect to get that bear home since she won’t help carry it, but Kaede points out there’s delivery. Rena then asks her how she expects it to fit in her house but Kaede isn’t worried since her house is huge. Rena finally relents and asks Kaede if she’s still going to purchase the clothes. The clerk rings her up and the total seems a little extravagant. Rena isn’t so sure if Kaede can afford it and get her bear, but Kaede tells her not to worry since she’s been saying all her New Year’s money so she can afford it. Rena makes another face at her.
Kaede is looking down at the dumps while her and her friends hang out at the Coordinator’s. Mitama Yakumo asks her what’s wrong while Kanagi Izumi offers to lend her an ear. Rena, on the other hand, just rolls her eyes and assumes that Kaede is worried about something dumb like her pet’s food. Kaede tells her her pets are important to her, but this isn’t about that. Karin Misono has asked her to model in a Christmas outfit for her art, but it’s out of season so Kaede hasn’t been able to find anything and she needs it by tomorrow. Kanagi says she can help by lending her one of the Christmas costumes from the maid café she works at. However, Kanagi warns her that the café may charge her a rental fee. So in order to pay it off, she offers Kaede the chance to work off the fee in exchange for a day of work there. Rena can’t believe what she’s hearing and tells Kaede not to do it. The idea of waiting on customers is a lot for Kaede to even think about, but she knows she’s short on options. The next day Kaede is ready for her day of customer service. Kanagi greets her warmly and takes her to the changing area where Kaede puts on the Christmas outfit that Kanagi had in mind. After reminding Kaede to refer to her as “Nagitan” while they’re there, Kanagi prepares to give Kaede some basic pointers although even Kanagi must admit that her interpretation of a maid is rather unique. Kaede tells her not to worry since both Karin and Ikumi Makino have already given her a good rundown on what she’ll need to do. Kanagi seems relieved. Just then, two customers enter the café. Kanagi instructs Kaede that she must always greet all “masters” that enter immediately. Kaede approaches the two and welcomes them to the café; except she was so nervous she accidentally bit her tongue. The two customers are head-over-hills with how cute Kaede is. It’s nearing the end of the day and Rena is waiting for Kanagi to finish up. She’s worried that Kaede will have somehow failed and will come out crying which in turn will make Rena feel awful, so Rena decides to laugh at her instead if she does. Rena scolds herself for thinking that way and enters the café only to find Kaede drawing snakes on a customer’s omurice. The customer wasn’t expecting a snake, but the likes how cute the drawing came out. When Kaede goes to refill a glass of water, she accidentally spills some on the young girl. She apologizes profusely, but the young girl isn’t mad at her. Instead she smiles and encourages “Kae-pyon” to do her best. Another girl calls out for Kae-pyon to serve her next. When Kaede looks at her, the girl faints at how precious she is. Rena is surprised to see how popular Kaede is with everyone, although when she thinks about it, the “helpless moe-blob” archtype is pretty popular with idol fans. Still, she can’t get over the nickname. Kaede finally notices Rena standing by the entrance and asks what she’s doing here. Rena tells her she came to see how badly Kaede was screwing up, prompting Kaede to call her mean. Kanagi appears and asks Rena if the real reason she came in because she was worried about Kaede. Rena’s face grows red as she denies it. The manager says Rena must be a good friend to show up just as Kaede was wrapping up. The manager then turns to Kaede and tells her she did a fantastic job. As a reward, he’s going to give her the costume for her to keep so long as she promises to come back and work for them when she gets to high school. Kanagi nods and says they’d be more than delighted to have her there. Kaede isn’t so sure, so Kanagi asks Rena what she thought of Kaede’s performance. Rena makes a face and says that Kaede didn’t do so bad. Kaede is surprised to hear praise from Rena while Kanagi thanks Kae-pyon for all her hard work today. |
