Homura's Revenge! Chapter 9
Homura says, determined, that she will kill Walpurgisnacht even if it costs her life. Kyoko yells at her not to say things like that and tells her to run off with Madoka, but Madoka refuses. Kyoko calls them both idiots, but Madoka tries to calm her down and tells Kyoko to fight with them. Both Homura and Kyoko question Madoka's use of a grouping term and yell that she better not think of contracting. As she grips Oktavia von Seckendorff's grief seed, Kyoko says that Sayaka wouldn't want her to fight. Kyoko tells Madoka to beat it since she isn't a magical girl and they can protect the town. Madoka thinks back to Kyoko in the previous timeline, telling her to fight even when her back is against a wall. Madoka resolves to keep on fighting as both Kyoko and Homura wish her goodbye.
As they navigate to Walpurgisnacht, Kyoko asks Homura if she has a plan. Homura says that she does, and that it's one that Kyoko taught her. As Walpurgisnacht breathes fire at them, Homura takes Kyoko's hand and stops time. Kyoko says if they can stop time over and over, they could easily defeat Walpurgisnacht. Homura says it's impossible since she is about to run out of time-stopping magic. Homura tells her not to worry as she lets go, summoning her various weapons and firing as the sand dwindles down in her shield. As the last of her magic is used and time resumes, the attacks hit Walpurgisnacht. Kyoko reawakens her Rosso Fantasma power and summons multiple giant spears, all attacking Walpurgisnacht at once. However, despite their best efforts, Walpurgisnacht shows no signs of damage. Homura tells Kyoko that it will be okay as she takes off her soul gem, remembering the suicide attack Kyoko used so many times. She tosses her soul gem in the air as she summons a gun, preparing to fire. She begins to apologize to Madoka but Kyoko grabs her soul gem before she can fire. Kyoko says it was a noble attempt, but she can't just leave Madoka alone. Walpurgisnacht sends more attacks and Kyoko says they'll talk more later.
The attacks are blocked and Kyoko yells for Homura to not give up in the middle of battle. Suddenly, two buildings head towards them and nearly crushes Kyoko, who is able to escape. Homura, however, is out of magic and can't escape. In the chaos, Kyoko is hit by Walpurgisnacht and falls to the ground below, injured. Madoka runs over to her and checks on her. Kyoko says to forget about her and check on Homura. Madoka looks over where Kyoko is looking to see a gravely injured Homura, bleeding a lot. Madoka shouts out in despair and calls out to Kyubey, asking to be made into a magical girl for Homura's sake.
Homura wakes up to Madoka shouting at her in her magical girl outfit. Madoka hugs her, thankful. However, Homura grabs her and asks why she became a magical girl for Homura, saying that Madoka should have just left her to die. Madoka disagrees, saying she doesn't regret her decision at all. Homura argues that since Madoka is a magical girl she will one day become a Witch, Madoka says she could never despair as long as Homura is alive. Kyoko says that she will keep collecting grief seeds so that they can stay alive. Madoka says that she wanted to protect Homura after Homura has protected her time and time again. Risen from her despair, both Homura and Madoka grab Madoka's bow and shoot down Walpurgisnacht. Homura decides to shoulder some of the magical burden so that Madoka doesn't become a Witch, therefore letting Madoka survive. However, as a result, Homura's gem turns completely black and she begins to turn into a witch. Homura holds up her soul gem to Kyoko and asks her to destroy it, but Kyoko instead purifies it with the grief seed of Oktavia von Seckendorff. Kyoko says its a pain to save her, but the town would have been destroyed without her. Madoka tackles Homura out of joy.
Homura asks if Kyoko is going to stay in this timeline, and she says yes. She says that the time she wants to do over is too far back for Homura's magic. Madoka runs to Kyoko's side and joins her, telling her goodbyes to Homura. Madoka and Homura explain to a shocked Kyoko that Homura can't protect Madoka if she comes along. With tears in their eyes, Madoka and Homura embrace and Homura says that no matter what, she will save Madoka. Homura disappears, leaving Kyoko and Madoka alone in the ruins.
Homura wakes up in her hospital bed, repeating that she will keep going no matter how many times it takes as a silhouette of Madoka hugs her.
