Homura's Revenge! Chapter 4
The chapter starts with Sayaka making her contract with Kyubey. Her wish is not confirmed, but it is implied to have something to do with getting revenge for Mami.
The scene then shifts with Madoka eating breakfast with her family. Madoka thinks about how Mami's death isn't as much of a shock as it was last time, and how Homura must have slowly gotten used to seeing her friends die.
The scene shifts again to Madoka and Sayaka on the school roof, with Sayaka saying it was all Homura's fault that Mami died. If Mami hadn't gotten distracted by Homura, she would still be alive. Madoka then shouts at Sayaka, saying that it isn't true and that Homura was only trying to help Mami. However, Kyubey baits Sayaka on and says that she is right about what Homura did. Madoka freaks out about this, yelling that this was never Homura's intention. Sayaka asks how Madoka would know such a thing, and Madoka falls silent. The bells sound and both Madoka and Sayaka head to their next class.
After school, Homura visits Mami's apartment and silently grieves over the loss. She remembers the time they had spent together in previous timelines and states that she is never able to save everyone. Kyubey appears wondering why Homura is here, as it is not to his knowledge that the two were ever friendly. However, he surmises, it would not be surprising to believe that in one timeline, it's possible they were friends.
Homura asks why Kyubey is here, and Kyubey wonders why Homura believes she could save anyone given how she has failed again and again. He also asks if Homura plans to subject Madoka to the fate of a looper as well, to which Homura tells him to shut up. Kyubey begins to leave, saying that he really did want to save Mami.
As Homura leaves the apartment complex, she runs into Madoka. Madoka asks her what she was doing in Mami's apartment and Homura responds that it was something from a long time ago. Homura says sadly that the reason Mami died this time was her fault, causing Madoka to shout that Homura tried her best. She says that they can loop as many times as they need to until they can save Mami, causing Homura to remember Kyubey's comment earlier. Madoka finishes that they still have to save Sayaka and Kyoko, causing Homura to realize today is the day Sayaka makes her wish. Homura begins to run off to try and stop her, but Madoka intervenes and says that Hitomi is going to get attacked today too. Madoka resolves that she will deal with Sayaka as Homura deals with the witch.
The scene cuts to the witch's kiss victims suicide attempt, which Homura interrupts by knocking them all out. As Homura makes sure Hitomi is okay, she gets surrounded by Daniyyel and Jennifer as she monologues that she now needs to defeat the Witch. Meanwhile, Madoka runs to the hospital in order to save Sayaka. Back to the fight, Homura thinks that she will not let herself fail any longer as she shoots at H.N. Elly. To Homura's surprise, the witch dodges and the familiars take any and all weapons that Homura pulls out. As she takes out the familiars and prepares to kill H.N. Elly, scenes of previous timelines show up on H.N. Elly's screens. Homura is put in a trance, but is interrupted by a flash.
Sayaka appears in her magical girl outfit, stabbing H.N. Elly. As the barrier disappears, Homura asks why Sayaka saved her. Sayaka responds that she didn't, and that she was just killing an evil witch. However, she continues, Homura is at the top of Sayaka's list for killing.
Before she can do anything, though, Madoka jumps in between Homura and Sayaka. Madoka looks defeated when seeing Sayaka's new form and Sayaka asks her why she is here and why she is defending Homura. Sayaka says, if Madoka wishes it, she won't kill Homura today. She turns around and leaves, with Homura telling Madoka to go with her.
Far away, on electrical poles, Kyoko looks down on Mitakihara and says that this is getting interesting. She asks if killing Homura will really avenge Mami, and Kyubey says that Sayaka is the one who believes that. Kyubey warns her that Homura is a very strong magical girl, and Kyoko responds that her being strong will just make this more fun.
