Homura's Revenge! Chapter 8
Walpurgisnacht looms menacingly in the sky of Mitakihara. Kyoko watches silently as the destruction begins.
The scene shifts to Homura taking off her bloody bandages in her apartment and replacing them with clean ones. As she puts on her shirt, she despairs that, even with Madoka, she was unable to save Mami or Sayaka and that all she has really done is cause Madoka more sorrow. A ring from her doorbell snaps Homura out of her depressive trance, and Madoka enters. As Madoka begins to talk, Homura apologizes to her for leading her to endure so many hardships for nothing. Madoka shouts that it wasn't for nothing since Kyoko is alive, but Homura counters that she didn't have any time to prepare for Walpurgisnacht and, since Kyoko will not help them, there is no hope of defeating Walpurgisnacht. No matter what happens now, Homura says, Mitakihara is doomed.
Suddenly, Homura asks Madoka a question. What if they start over, begins another loop? She says it may be another period of grief, but Homura is willing to do anything to protect Madoka as she falls to her knees. Madoka tells her not to push all the burden onto herself as she hugs an upset Homura.
Later, at the evacuation center, Madoka sits with her family. She looks at Homura, who is leaning on a support pillar some distance away. Madoka stands up and tells her mother that she has to talk to her friend about something.
Back to Kyoko, Walpurgisnacht's familiars (Rednose and Bluenose specifically) march on Mitakihara. Kyoko marvels at Walpurgisnacht's size and grumbles that she has no obligation to protect this town. Thinking about Mami and Sayaka, she decides to protect Mitakihara to the best of her ability. She holds the grief seeds she collected with Sayaka and jumps down from her viewing point, transforming and says that, for today, she is a Mitakihara magical girl.
In the shelter, Homura asks what Madoka wants to talk about. Madoka asks what will happen to the town if they go back in time, and Homura doesn't answer. Madoka answers her own question, saying thousands will die to Walpurgisnacht if they just leave. Madoka apologizes for asking a question she already knew the answer to, but says she can't just leave the people of this Mitakihara to their fate. Homura says that she admires Madoka's feelings, but they don't have any plans to kill Walpurgisnacht. Madoka starts to suggest she becomes a magical girl, but Homura shouts that doing so would make this whole endeavor pointless. Madoka says that she can't just sit as Homura gets all the pain, and Homura counters that, if Madoka makes a wish, she will become the worst witch in the world. Kyubey appears behind them, saying that Kyoko has begun to fight Walpurgisnacht. Madoka rushes off and Homura begins to chase her, but Kyubey asks her and asks what purpose it would serve staying in this timeline. Madoka and Homura's goals are inherently different, after all. If they keep going down this path, neither of them will get what they want. Kyubey encourages Homura to go back in time as the scene fades out.
On the battlefield, Kyoko is fighting Walpurgisnacht's "Clown" familiars and, when she finishes them, jumps towards Walpurgisnacht. She breathes fire at Kyoko, but Kyoko erects her barrier to shield herself. As Kyoko brags about Walpurgisnacht's apparent weakness but is hit by a building. Kyoko is able to dodge and creates her giant spear, stabbing Walpurgisnacht in the chest. However, Walpurgisnacht's wound festers and flings Kyoko away, slamming her into a building. As she recovers, the "Clown" familiars swarm her. As Kyoko prepares to die, Homura appears and disposes of the "Clowns". Madoka appears as well, helping Kyoko up. Kyoko asks what the two of them are doing here and Homura says she can't give up when there is still hope, Kyubey's words of discouragement flashing in her mind. She says that she will defeat Walpurgisnacht and protect Madoka, even if it costs her life.
