An Inescapable Truth (逃れられないもの) is Alina Gray's Heartphial Story in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra.
Story
Alina Gray reflects on her life. She has zero interest in acclaim and fame. She lets the world interpret and judge her art however it pleases. She lives only to give form to the beauty she is driven to create.
Alina receives a letter from a judge after applying for an art award. The judge says her art is like poison that drives people mad and tells her to stop creating if she does not intend to change the world. The letter sends a shiver down her spine.
Alina is interested in the boundary between life and death. She decides to destroy everything, including herself, as her final art piece. Kyubey appears and offers to grant a wish. Alina refuses. Kyubey persists, and Alina changes her mind. She wishes for an atelier where no one can bother her. She still plans to turn herself into her final masterpiece. She jumps to her death but survives because she is now a Magical Girl. She realizes she has always had a theme: "Alina's beauty." She creates what she wants to create.
Alina nearly dies when she is lost in thought and almost walks through a weak floor. A woman stops her. The woman recognizes Alina from her exhibition. She says she is a sculptor who was called a genius in her youth. Alina looks at photos of her work and calls it trash. The sculptor asks Alina if she can draw something she does not know or has never seen. The question gives Alina inspiration.
Alina struggles to draw something she does not know. Whatever she tries, something is missing. She visits an exhibition of the sculptor's past works. The sculptures feel like "life," but that is not the theme. She meets the sculptor's assistant, who takes her to the sculptor's studio. The sculptor has overexerted herself and is not breathing. The assistant calls an ambulance, but Alina realizes the sculptor is dead.
Alina finally understands. The sculptor's theme is "what lies beyond death." She kept bringing herself close to death for her art. Alina realizes the question was not a question but a challenge. She does not need to die to show her theme. She will create new "materials" instead, like the Witch. She laughs, having found her inspiration.
