Open for Business (調整屋さん、はじめます) is Mitama Yakumo's Heartphial Story in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra.
Story
Mitama Yakumo reflects on her life. Ever since she was little, everyone always expected so much of her. She has tried so hard to meet those expectations, but some things are best left in the past. It is time for her to move on.
Mitama is a Coordinator. She never had the strength to fight Witches. She survived with Kanagi Izumi's help, but when the number of Witches in Kamihama decreased, she saw the limits of that help. She met her mentor, who taught her the art of adjustment. In return for strengthening other Magical Girls' powers, she receives Grief Seeds. She opens the Kamihama Coordinator's Shop. She feels depressed, not excited, because she has been betrayed by too many people. Kanagi visits and offers to get an adjustment. Mitama thanks her. Kanagi tells her not to force herself to smile. Mitama admits she cannot bear to show the real her.
Business is tough. Kanagi spreads word to the East side, but Mitama gets almost no customers from the West side. She realizes she has been hiding in her shop like a Witch waiting in a Labyrinth. She thinks it is fitting for someone who made the wish she did.
Mitama remembers her childhood. She had a natural talent for sports and studying, so expectations were high. She got a scholarship to Mizuna Girls' Academy. Some girls from Daito did not like people from Mizuna. After trying for over two years, she won people over. But her closest friend tried to throw her down the stairs. Mitama dodged and knocked another girl down in her place. The girl was a scholarship student from Mizuna. The school paper wrote that Mitama did it on purpose. She was advised to leave the school.
She returned to Daito Academy. Students there called her a disgrace, a traitor, and a sellout. They said she brought shame on them. She thought about pushing them all down the stairs or driving them to their deaths. Kanagi stopped her and told her not to let it break her. She welcomed Mitama home. But Mitama could not forgive the people who hurt her. Kyubey appeared.
Mitama remembers her mentor's words: "Don't die." She decides to do as she is told and start hyping up her store. She goes out to find Magical Girls and give them her sales pitch.
She finds Momoko Togame struggling against a Witch. She offers an adjustment. Momoko agrees. Mitama adjusts her magic, and Momoko defeats the Witch. Mitama demands payment in Grief Seeds. Momoko has none, so Mitama asks her to defeat Witches and Familiars near her shop instead. Momoko agrees. Mitama thinks she has landed an easy mark.
Business booms. Momoko becomes a regular. Many other Magical Girls start coming. Mitama realizes she does not force herself to smile anymore—it happens naturally because she is happy. But she wonders if she has the right to be happy.
Mitama remembers her wish. She hated everyone who hurt her. She hated the city and its history. She wished to be the one to destroy Kamihama. Her wish was not one of hope— it was a curse. If her wish always comes true, it may one day destroy everyone she holds dear, including Momoko and all her smiling friends.
Mitama starts crying and Momoko apologizes, thinking she upset her. She says she is glad Mitama helped her—they would never have become friends otherwise. Mitama realizes it was bad timing for Momoko to be caught by someone like her. But she thanks Momoko for her kind heart. She wonders where she would be without her.
