Magia Exedra Heartphial Story - Rena Minami - Rena Wants to Change
Rena Wants to Change (不器用なレナは変わりたい) is Rena Minami's Heartphial Story in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra.
Story
Rena reflects on her life. She has always been alone because nobody liked her. Being a pop idol fan carried her through the loneliness, but now she has friends by her side.
The three of them— Rena, Kaede, and Momoko get together and talk about Sopra, an online idol who does not show her face or hold concerts. Kaede does not understand the appeal, but Rena and Momoko are passionate fans. They met at a LinkS concert, where Momoko helped Rena when someone tried to take her seat. Later, a Witch appeared near the venue, and they realized they were both Magical Girls. They later added Kaede to their team after a rough start— Rena initially rejected Kaede out of jealousy and insecurity, but Momoko saw through Rena's transformation and gave her the push she needed to apologize. Kaede forgave her, and they became a trio.
One day, they fight a Witch. Rena saves a girl with a Witch's Kiss. The girl wakes up and thanks her. Rena feels like she knows her somehow. The girl's name is Takane.
A week later, Rena has made a new friend in Takane. They bond over their mutual love of idols, especially LinkS and Sayano. They text constantly and meet up. Takane is shy and gloomy at school, just like Rena used to be. They share similar experiences of being teased and misunderstood. Takane reveals that she wants to become an idol someday to give back the happiness she received. Rena promises to cheer her on from the front row.
Takane then reveals she is Sopra, the online idol Rena admires. Rena is shocked and says she cannot be friends with an idol. She runs away. A week passes without Rena replying to Takane's messages. Rena regrets her words and realizes she has not changed— she still hurts everyone around her.
Momoko comes to Rena's house and takes her to Sopra's guerilla concert. Takane is performing for the first time. Rena reads Takane's messages, in which Takane says she knows how Rena feels about idols but will be waiting for her anyway. Rena goes to the concert and cheers from the front row. Takane's performance is a success.
Afterward, Rena apologizes. Takane is not mad. Rena tells Takane that to her, Takane will always be her friend who is just as crazy about idols as she is, not just an idol. They reconcile. Rena has finally taken the first step to close the gap herself.
