Magia Record Main Story Arc 2 Chapter 4: Ultramarine in the Distance
Story
The Union council meets to discuss their approach, deciding to pursue cooperation with Promised Blood while acknowledging that compensation will be required from Kamihama. Iroha pleads for one last chance to negotiate with Yuna, arguing that uniting through their desire to save each other is the fastest path to saving all Magical Girls.
The conversation shifts when Yachiyo explains that Mirrors Familiars have grown and now connect Labyrinths across distances, creating shortcuts between Kamihama and Futatsugi that Promised Blood has been confirmed to use. Mifuyu arrives with news that Alina has been painting maps that may lead to the original Witch's location, and Kanagi suggests forming an investigation team once negotiations conclude.
Four days later, at home, Nayuta tells Lavi that the security camera at her parents' old house captured her father's image clearly, suggesting he might be hiding intentionally. Mikage arrives with handmade pin badges for their "Papa Search Party" and suggests they visit a foreign painter they met before, but on the way they encounter Mifuyu, Tsukasa, and Tsukuyo struggling to carry art supplies for Alina. Despite Nayuta's reluctance, they help.
At the hospital, they learn from Mifuyu that Nayuta's father once interviewed her and Yachiyo long ago. Nayuta admits her investigation suggests her father may not want to be found, and Mifuyu suggests he might be avoiding her out of love, similar to how Mitama hid being a Magical Girl from Mikage. Nayuta reveals her parents divorced years ago and her father is her only remaining family besides Lavi. When she mentions her mother is trying to regain custody, Mifuyu suggests contacting her for clues. Nayuta goes to her uncle, the hospital director, who knows her mother's contact information. He agrees to help but assigns her homework: she must bring her own answer about what it means to lose a loved one. He schedules another meeting in three days and promises to invite Touka as well.
That night over dinner, Lavi shares her view that perspectives on death vary with knowledge and philosophy, but for her, it comes down to emptiness and acceptance, and the only truth is what we lose right in front of us. Nayuta finds this confusing but continues contemplating the homework.
The following day, Hinano notices that Ryo seems troubled, suspecting her investigation into Promised Blood has become more serious.
Nayuta retrieves the analyzed security footage and takes a break with Mikage at a parlor, where she shares her view that death represents hope, a chance for all souls to eventually melt together regardless of their differences. Lavi finds this hopeful perspective characteristic of Nayuta, while Mikage admits she doesn't fully understand but would be sad if anyone disappeared.
Later that night, Nayuta reflects on her uncle's homework while watching a drama, realizing that you don't have to die to lose someone. She recalls her parents' final argument, when her mother had changed and struck her father. Nayuta remembers that her family fell apart because of her own wish; she hated her mother, yet losing her brought only sadness.
The next day, Nayuta meets her uncle and Touka in the hospital courtyard. Touka shares her answer first, speaking of death's inevitability and the limits of human reach. Her uncle agrees that separation is unavoidable. Nayuta then gives her answer: simply put, it means sorrow and anguish, and she cannot betray her feelings. Her uncle accepts this, saying he only wanted her to think. He agrees to contact her mother but warns Nayuta to consider her mother's feelings. He advises Touka to think of her surroundings rather than all humanity. Afterward, they encounter Tsukasa and Tsukuyo searching for Alina, who has disappeared from the hospital.
The following day, Kagome collects photographs taken by Ryo and transmits them with help from Touka and Nemu. With only two Kimochi Stones remaining, she senses an approaching struggle and resolves to fight despite her feelings of inadequacy and fear.
At Minaminagi Liberty Academy, a teacher announces volunteer opportunities for Kamihama's reconstruction. Ryo remains distracted, thinking about Promised Blood's secret route and Kagome's request to photograph Magical Girls. She decides to investigate the shortcut alone, and Hinano and Ikumi go after her.
Later that day, Alina approaches Ryo at school and invites her to investigate the Mirrors offshoot in Daito again. Ryo feels conflicted but cannot suppress her curiosity. Hinano warns Ryo against acting alone, but Ryo deflects by claiming she is focused on Kagome's project.
Felicia reports that Promised Blood refuses to talk and the Tokime Clan is bickering with them. Iroha decides to contact Sakuya, their spy at the school, and Sakuya agrees to arrange a meeting with Yuna despite the difficulty. Yuna receives the message and agrees to listen, finding Iroha's persistence intriguing.
That night at Mikazuki Villa, the group discusses compensation for Promised Blood. Touka reveals she has prepared a method to increase the chance of joining hands but keeps it secret for now. They agree to bring Touka and Nemu to the negotiation.
Suddenly, Juri crashes through a window, demanding to deliver Promised Blood's response in person. She presents terms: before meeting Yuna, Iroha must first meet with Hikaru and Sakuya and present what they are willing to give. Additionally, they must use Ui to find the Kimochi Labyrinth at Minaminagi. Iroha and Yachiyo accept the conditions. Kagome later notes this was the day they could have set their eyes on hope.

The next day, Iroha, Yachiyo, Tsuruno, Touka, and Nemu meet Hikaru and Sakuya at Shizuku's coffee house to negotiate a potential alliance while Ui, Felicia, and Sana head to the cargo port to search for the Kimochi as agreed. Iroha's proposals are rejected, and when Touka and Nemu offer themselves as compensation to satisfy Promised Blood's wrath, Hikaru and Sakuya decide to take the matter back to Yuna.
While waiting for a response, Iroha fixes a loose button on Hikaru's coat, and Hikaru reveals that Yuna had done the same for her years ago. Iroha asks if Hikaru could help Touka and Nemu in an emergency, but Hikaru says it is impossible. Later that evening, Kagome, Touka, Nemu, and Sakurako gather at the radio telescope and discuss the progress, with Kagome worrying about Ryo, who continues investigating the Mirrors offshoot despite Hinano and Ikumi trying to stop her.
Meanwhile, Hagumu and Shigure resolve to change and decide to return to Juri and start fresh, aiming to become people who can stand on their own. Kagome watches from within the Uwasa of the Eternal Sakura as negotiations continue, feeling terrified for Touka and Nemu.

At the cargo port, Ui, Sana, and Felicia meet with Promised Blood as agreed and enter the Labyrinth with the Tokime Clan to search for the Kimochi. Inside, they encounter the Uwasa Labyrinth of the Anonymous AI that separates the groups, but Sana realizes they can open its heart by playing together rather than fighting. Ui offers friendship, and the Uwasa withdraws, revealing it was merely lonely. The Kimochi, Drifting - Diamond Hair, appears and is defeated by the combined group, with Chiharu gaining the Bracelet. Shigure and Hagumu suddenly return and apologize to Juri, declaring they now have their own goals alongside new comrades. Juri is angered but decides to leave for now. Sana receives a message that negotiations have broken down and the Union needs to leave immediately. The Tokime Clan offers to help, but Himena appears with the Neo-Magius, attacks them, severs Chiharu's arm, and steals the Kimochi of Fear from her Bracelet before withdrawing. Juri arrives and mocks them for being bested.
Meanwhile, Livia and Lavi discuss that the Union's actions have set things in motion that neither the Tokime Clan nor the Neo-Magius desire, with Livia preparing for casualties.
Ryo meets Alina at Daito, where Alina uses her connection to the voice inside her to pinpoint the Mirrors offshoot's location near Kamihama Prison. Hinano, Ikumi, and Karin arrive to stop them, but Ryo insists they must strike at the weak point now, and the group reluctantly follows.
At the prison, Alina confirms the magical reactions come from underground while Ryo searches for an entrance. Promised Blood members Ao and Urara detect them, and Ao alerts Yuna that Ryo's ability poses a serious threat to their Labyrinth. Yuna receives the message during negotiations and immediately orders Sakuya to break them off, leaving Iroha and the others confused. Yachiyo contacts Hinano and realizes Promised Blood likely interpreted their movement as betrayal. Underground, Ryo finds a door revealing how Promised Blood comes and goes. Above ground, battle erupts as Kanagi and Mitama arrive as reinforcements, but Momoko's team and Sana's team are blocked from reaching the prison.

At the negotiation site, Yuna confronts Iroha, Tsuruno, and Yachiyo about Ryo breaking the ceasefire, revealing her true plan was to work Kamihama's Magical Girls to death rather than slaughter them. At the prison, Ao breaks through the defense line and pursues Ryo as she emerges. Ao intends only to break Ryo's camera, but her blade strikes Ryo's Soul Gem instead, killing her instantly. Both factions are left reeling as Yuna coldly declares Ryo's death is the price of the Union's underhanded tactics.

As Ikumi collapses in grief, a Kimochi Labyrinth suddenly appears. The Kimochi of Grief, Unmoving - Garnet Pinky, emerged in response to Ikumi's despair and forces both factions to fight it together. The Kimochi proves overwhelmingly powerful until Iroha's Bracelet lends her its power, allowing her to connect with Ikumi, who channels her grief into one decisive strike and defeats it.

With the immediate threat over, Yuna announces that now that all eight Stones are gathered, the real fight begins. She reveals Promised Blood has been tracking all Kamihama Magical Girls and has just ordered assassinations. Before anyone can act, another Labyrinth envelops everyone as the Kimochi declare they will choose which Magical Girls are worthy. The Kimochi vanish, and Promised Blood withdraws to heal their wounds.
Ikumi asks Kanagi to take Ryo's body back to the East, and the Union mourns together. Mitama warns that rumors are spreading in the East again, claiming the West seeks to rule all of Kamihama, and Ryo's death could ignite tensions once more. Meanwhile, the Tokime Clan, recovering from their fight with the Neo-Magius, hears news of Ryo's death.
Kagome reflects on Ryo's death, realizing she never truly understood the reality of being a Magical Girl until now. Back at Mikazuki Villa, the group receives a declaration of war from the Neo-Magius. Knowing their home is no longer safe, Touka leads them to an underground shelter prepared by the Satomi Group and announces her plan to use the facility's resources to spread the truth about Magical Girls and continue their fight.
