This article chronicles the timelines depicted primarily in Scene 0 and the original anime. These timelines explore Homura's time loops with the added perspective of Mabayu, who also retains her memories across them.. The sequence covers Film 0 (the original timeline) through Film 13, leading into the canonical anime ending, with the addition of stories with an unclear placement within these films.

Below is a table detailing the known repeating constants and key variables within the monthly timeline. The loop starts with the day Homura wakes up on the hospital on the 16th, and ends with the arrival of Walpurgisnacht on the 16th of the following month, or with the emergence of Kriemhild Gretchen later that day.

Timeline of Events
Number Day of the Week Date Constants Variable Events
Day 1 Tuesday 16th Homura Akemi wakes up in the hospital, and Mabayu Aki wakes up in her room, both retaining their memories from the previous loops.
Homura alters her medical records for early discharge and begins planning for the following month.
Mabayu's state varies depending on the previous loops. She can wake with full or partial knowledge, in which case she frequently visits Homura to coordinate, or she may have no memories at all depending on the loop.
If Film 13 isn't the timeline of the anime, it is likely that after Oriko's first attempt Homura kills her and Kirika early in the loop.
Day 2 Wednesday 17th Madoka goes to buy coffee beans for her father but finds they are sold out. She messages her mother, Junko, asking if she can pick them up from the main store near her office on her way home. Junko agrees, which causes her to leave work on time to run the errand. Because of this, Junko is able to meet her friend, Kazuko Saotome, for drinks that evening.
Kyubey makes his first major attempt to contract Madoka Kaname by appearing on her windowsill at night, but Madoka doesn't contract yet.
Homura intercepts and kills Kyubey to block his access to Madoka.
Day 3 Thursday 18th Inspired by the previou night of drinks with Junko, to better understand and connect with Kyosuke Kamijo, she goes to a CD store and buys a rare, out-of-print CD featuring a famous performance of "Ave Maria."
Sayaka, who has been eyeing the exact same rare CD, goes to the store to buy it, only to find that the last copy had just been sold out. Devastated, she becomes distracted and accidentally leaves her cellphone at the store's listening station.
Kyosuke tries to call Sayaka, as he's managed to get a last-minute invitation to a concert and wants to take her with him. He calls multiple times, but she never answers. He and the nurse assume she has gone out without her phone and, as they are on a tight schedule, they leave without her.
The cat, Amy, is endangered by a car near Café Récompense.
Homura tries to intervene, and if she's unsuccessful, Madoka makes a contract to save Amy.
Day 4 Friday 19th Homura steals weapons from an abandoned building, as well as attacking and busting the group responsible for smuggling them. If Madoka has contracted, Mami Tomoe takes her on her first official Witch-hunting patrol.

One of Gertrud's Anthony Familiars kills Sayaka, who is then reported missing.
Most often, Homura defeats Gertrud and her Familiars before Sayaka or Madoka encounter them.

Charlotte spawns out of a Grief Seed which was previously a Familiar at the hospital.
Depending on Mami's emotional state, she is killed by Charlotte.
If Mami isn't present in Mitakihara, Sayaka often makes a contract and becomes a Magical Girl for Kyosuke.
Day 16 Wednesday 31st H.N. Elly appears and targets a handful of people, including Hitomi, luring them into a factory for a mass suicide with chlorine gas. Her attempt has reliably been thwarted and the people affected are only briefly hospitalized. Sayaka makes a contract after Kyosuke has an emotional breakdown over his arm.
When the Witch is defeated early, and Mabayu has enough of her memories, she cuts out Sayaka's memory of her intended wish and stops her from contracting.

Same as her vision, Mabayu jumps in the way and gets killed by the Witch painfully to save Homura.
    • After the Witch is defeated, Mami approaches and sees Mabayu's dead body. Mami recognizes her and in her apartment, laments her death to Madoka and Homura and tells them about their history together.

    • Homura and Mabayu go fight a different Witch and find Madoka and Sayaka inside of the Labyrinth. Mabayu predicts the future to fight the Witch most effectively, but Sayaka gets hurt during the battle and then taken to the hospital.
  • Day 11 - Friday, the 26th: The next day, Madoka visits Sayaka in the hospital. Sayaka is thankful she didn't make a contract, noting how dangerous Witches are. Madoka feels bad that Homura has to fight Witches alone, but Sayaka insists Homura must have gotten a wish that was worth it.
  • Day 13 - Sunday, the 28th: Homura trains Mabayu and Madoka approaches them. She asks whether her becoming a Magical Girl would be of any help to them and Homura tells her that she'd only be a burden.
  • Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Homura meets Mami on the school rooftop and Mami asks whether Sayaka was hurt during the fight against a Witch. Homura warns her to not be too curious and leaves, but Mami resolves to follow Homura and find out more about her.
    • Later, Mabayu and Homura talk about methods to discourage Madoka from contracting. They notice Madoka talking to Kyubey and Sayaka sees her too. She realizes Madoka and Kyubey have gone inside a Labyrinth and follows after them, but she's attacked by Familiars. Mami saves her and goes to fight the Witch while Mabayu and Homura find Madoka. Homura makes Kyubey tell Madoka that Magical Girls become Witches and hopes the truth will be enough to keep her away from contracting. Homura and Mabayu go to fight the Witch, but midbattle, it behaves strangely and spits out a Magical Girl they'd never met before. Homura defeats the Witch and the girl introduces herself as Nagisa Momoe. As they're talking, Madoka approaches in her Magical Girl outfit and Homura is devastated. They all go to café Récompense and Madoka reveals that she wished for the Witch to be set free of her despair. Kyubey reveals that this Nagisa is the embodiment of the remorse cut out of the Witch's body. They decide Nagisa will stay with Mabayu and Sakie in exchange for Madoka and Homura working part-time in the café.
  • Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: Madoka, Homura and Mabayu start working together and Sakie agrees to make the "world's greatest cheesecake" for Nagisa. Together with Kyubey, the three girls discuss what Nagisa's regret could be and prepare to fight H.N. Elly, who is supposed to appear that day. Inside the Barrier, Mabayu predicts the future and while fighting, notices that Madoka's potential has increased. Madoka hesitates in the fight and Nagisa shows up and defeats Elly herself. Nagisa asks her not to hesitate when fighting Witches, and Mabayu reveals to Homura that Nagisa would convince Madoka better than Homura could.
    • Kyoko goes to Mami's apartment due to the odd situation in Mitakihara, but finds no sign of her. She suspects something is seriously wrong.
  • Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: At Récompense, Madoka, Sayaka and Hitomi celebrate Sayaka's discharge from the hospital. Sayaka reveals she was saved by an unknown Magical Girl in a Labyrinth, which changed her view on Magical Girls. Madoka confesses she has contracted, and Sayaka asks what she wished for.

    • Madoka, Homura, Mabayu and Nagisa kill an Anja Familiar and are approached by Kyoko, who accuses them of killing Mami. Homura calls Kyoko by name and the two parties reluctantly disperse while Nagisa gets sad.
  • Day 18 - Friday, the 2nd: At work, Nagisa is still sad and runs away after another latte art competition.
    • In a park at night, Sayaka is approached by Kyoko with a photo of Mami, asking if she knows her. Kyoko reveals that she watched the security footage at the mall and that Mami never exited Charlotte's Barrier and Sayaka reveals that Madoka is a Magical Girl.
    • At home, Mabayu tries to cheer up Nagisa with a cake and cheesy puffs and Nagisa reveals she's been having nightmares. Mabayu contemplates on her abilities and her mother's fortune telling.
  • Day 20 - Sunday, the 4th: Madoka, Homura and Mabayu make another cake for Nagisa but she rejects it. Madoka and Homura leave the room while Mabayu encourages Nagisa to apologize. Nagisa overhears Homura calling her a Witch and flees, having the girls to search for her across the city. Mabayu eventually finds Nagisa under an overpass, but Kyoko appears and accuses Nagisa of being a Witch and killing Mami. Nagisa reluctantly admits to her dream-like memories of eating Mami and Kyoko attacks them. Nagisa, upset and angry, unleashes attacks which shatter Kyoko's Soul Gem, killing her. Mabayu thanks Nagisa for protecting her, but Nagisa yells at her to stay away and runs off. When Madoka and Homura catch up, they find Kyoko's body and hear what happened. Madoka blames herself and Homura instead suggests they focus on saving Nagisa.
  • Day 21 - Monday, the 5th: At the café, Sakie asks Mabayu if she's heard from Nagisa. She worries Nagisa might have been kidnapped or run away, but Mabayu reassures her.
    • Later, Homura stands alone on a bridge and senses a Witch's Barrier. As she waits, Nagisa appears and then runs off, likely having fought the Witch alone, and runs off again after calling herself a bad girl.
  • Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Mabayu has a dream reminiscing of her mother, her ability to see people's future and her complete belief that her predictions would always come true. Later, Mabayu meets Madoka and Homura at an abandoned factory, where Homura expects Nagisa to appear. Mabayu reflects on past loops and avoids telling Madoka about Sayaka's fate and predicts the future again. Inside the Barrier, Nagisa confronts Elsa Maria and then questions why they're being kind to her. Madoka and Homura reassure and tell her they want to be friends and share happiness together. After defeating the Witch, Nagisa collapses in pain, warning them not to get too close. She believes she deserves to be punished for the pain she's caused. Heartbroken, they're unsure of what to do, but Mabayu examines Nagisa's memories, seeing her dark deeds, and erases her memory of the bad things she's done.
  • Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Nagisa and the others happily eat the best cheesecake that Sakie made with her friends. Homura questions why Mabayu pushed so hard if she was just going to erase Nagisa's memories and Mabayu explains that to erase the bad memories, Nagisa had to relive them first and that she realized she had this ability when she foresaw the future. Mabayu reveals her mother, a fortune teller, predicted her own death and changed drastically after and Homura guesses Mabayu wished to erase the memory of her mother's prediction. Nagisa reminds them to finish their cheesecake, and plans to help defeat Walpurgisnacht.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: On the day Walpurgisnacht appears, Mabayu looks into Homura's future again. Despite their efforts, they lose just as Mabayu foresaw. Nagisa is comforted by Mabayu and Homura, who cherish their memories with her. Madoka assures Nagisa that it's okay even if she couldn't help everyone. Nagisa, having accepted herself, thanks them and disappears in a flash of pink light, her curse lifted by Madoka's wish. Madoka thanks Homura for being with her and asks Mabayu to take care of her. Madoka promises Homura she won't be stained by despair. Mabayu reminds Homura that it's almost time to go and Homura resets time again.

Film 5

The sixth timeline and the one where Mabayu focuses on keeping Sayaka from contracting.[7] This timeline is depicted in:

  1. Film 5 of Scene 0.
  • Day 1 - Tuesday, the 16th: Mabayu wakes up to an alarm and is saddened by knowing that Nagisa no longer exists. She visits Homura at the hospital who reminds her that their mission is to stop Madoka from contracting, and Nagisa's return would mean failure. Homura vows to not repeat the mistake of revealing the truth about Witches to Madoka.
  • Day 2 - Wednesday, the 17th: Homura confronts Mami and challenges her for control of Mitakihara, stating she will not make the same mistake as a previous timeline by forming a ceasefire. They agree to a duel where the loser must cease all Magical Girl activities in the city. In a close-fought battle, Homura barely wins by using her time-stop magic a split second before Mami's ribbons can seal her shield. Mami admits defeat and honors their agreement, leaving Mitakihara during patrols. Homura reflects that she will not inherit Mami's ideals, but will move beyond them to save Madoka.
  • Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: Homura confirms Mami is no longer active in Mitakihara.
    • At the hospital, Kyosuke and a nurse note that Sayaka is not answering her phone and has missed a planned concert visit, worrying Kyosuke.
    • Sayaka has a bad day, missing out on a rare "Ave Maria" CD and leaving her phone at the store. She runs into Madoka and they talk about her frustrations and her concern for Kyosuke. They see Mabayu in her Récompense pâtisserie uniform and, reminded of cake, decide to go to the pastry shop. There, Sayaka shares an old photo with Madoka and talks fondly about Kyosuke's violin playing, expressing her desire to support him until he can play again. The shop owner, Sakie, overhears and praises Sayaka, calling her Kyosuke's "first fan."
    • Homura, observing the city, witnesses a child recount how a "Magical Girl Mami" saved her, being reminded of the legacy Mami left behind.
  • Day 6 - Sunday, the 21st: During the field trip, Homura and Mabayu realize Kyubey has made contact with Madoka while they were fighting a Witch. Mabayu foresees the future and then helps Madoka and Sayaka to escape from a Labyrinth.
    • Hunting Asiphae, Kyoko finds Mami at the factory. Mami acts distant and Kyoko asks about why Mami'd been working outside Mitakihara. Homura defeats the Witch right in front of Kyoko, takes the Grief Seed and warns her not to interfere in Mitakihara.
    • Outside the Barrier, Madoka and Sayaka thank Mabayu for her help. Mabayu points out a UFO as a distraction, allowing Homura to freeze time and shoot Kyubey with Mabayu's borrowed gun. Time resumes, and the popping sound of the bullets startles Madoka and Sayaka, but Mabayu dismisses it as firecrackers and laughs. The teacher then calls the students back to the bus.
  • Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Mabayu and Homura meet on the school rooftop to discuss preventing Madoka and Sayaka from encountering Witches. As two Witches are set to appear, Homura plans to defeat one Witch before heading to the mall, while Mabayu stalls Madoka and Sayaka to keep them safe.

  • Day 11 - Friday, the 26th: Sayaka finishes her shift at the Récompense and Sakie praises her for her energy. Sayaka asks why Mabayu offered her the job, and Mabayu explains she thought Sayaka might need the money and had seen her often in the CD section of the video store. Sayaka senses Mabayu is hiding something but reassures her it's fine and hopes she'll share someday.
  • Day 13 - Sunday, the 28th: After another shift at Récompense, Sakie gives Sayaka a box of "Chocotto Bar" chocolates. Sakie teases Sayaka about having a crush on Kyosuke, which Sayaka denies. When Sakie realizes she forgot to set aside a cake for Sayaka to take to the hospital, she instead offers to teach Sayaka how to bake one herself the next day.
    • Mabayu meets Homura at the bus stop and updates her on their progress. They agree that keeping Madoka and Sayaka ignorant of Magical Girls is crucial, but Mabayu doubts she can befriend Sayaka. Homura asks Mabayu to check her future again, and the enemy's attack pattern remains unchanged. Homura leaves the task of guarding Madoka to Mabayu.
    • At home, Madoka struggles with her algebra homework while Mabayu, camouflaged, spies on her and Homura telepathically checks in. Mabayu reports no sign of Kyubey so far and reassures Homura that she's keeping watch.
    • Sayaka walks home, feeling proud of her progress at work and plans to buy CDs. She is contacted by Kyubey, who asks her to contract and become a Magical Girl.
  • Day 14 - Monday, the 29th: Distracted by Kyubey's offer, Sayaka goes to Récompense after school as planned. Sakie teaches her how to bake a fruit tart. Sayaka creates several chocolate message plates, accidentally making one that says "love" in the process. In the confusion of a customer arriving, the wrong plate ("love") is put on the cake. Sakie, believing it's intentional, cheers Sayaka on as she rushes to the hospital.
    • At the hospital, a nurse mistakes Sayaka for Kyosuke's girlfriend, flustering her. Upon checking the cake, Sayaka discovers the "love" message and, in a panic, uses the chocolate from Sakie to alter it to read "Move," explaining it as a message for him to keep moving forward with his recovery. She feeds him the cake as his hand is injured. Kyosuke is genuinely touched and thanks her. Later, as they listen to the CDs she brought, Kyosuke becomes emotional. Seeing his sadness, Sayaka's resolve to wish for his healing strengthens.
  • Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Mabayu and Homura spot Madoka at the hospital, waiting for Sayaka. Mabayu reads Homura's future, and gives her instructions to quickly defeat Charlotte. They keep in contact via telepathy so Homura knows when to stop time.
    • Sayaka meets Madoka and tells her she wasn't able to enter Kyosuke's room. Mabayu notices Kyubey nearby and warns Homura to stop time while Mabayu shoots Kyubey and uses a fire extinguisher explosion as cover. Homura defeats Charlotte and Mabayu encounters Sayaka, who warns her about the explosion. Mabayu pretends she's delivering cake to a hospital patient and learns about Kyosuke from Sayaka. Homura telepathically signals the mission is done, and Mabayu excuses herself.
    • At the pendulum room, Homura reports success and shows Mabayu a hand-drawn flowchart of the time loops. Mabayu suggests using a computer, but Homura burns it and explains it resets with the timeline, so it's better if she remembers it.
  • Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: As Madoka and Sayaka walk home, Mabayu and Homura watch from nearby. Mabayu reads Sayaka's future and sees her contracting with Kyubey. Homura rushes off and finds Sayaka, now a Magical Girl, fighting Familiars and defeating H.N. Elly. Kyubey praises Sayaka, but Homura interrupts, threatening her to stay away from Madoka. Mabayu telepathically stops Homura from killing Sayaka and Homura agrees after Mabayu shows her a vision of success. Later, Mabayu meets Madoka, who is worried. Madoka asks if she's noticed changes in Sayaka as she's been acting strangely and Mabayu promises to help if Sayaka is in trouble.
  • Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Sayaka greets Hitomi and Madoka on their way to school, but Madoka notices Kyubey alongside Sayaka. Hitomi doesn't see him and thinks Madoka is imagining things and Sayaka brushes it off as sleep deprivation, while Mabayu watches them. At lunch, Sayaka shows off her Magical Girl transformation to Madoka on the rooftop. Homura and Mabayu watch from nearby and Sayaka assures Madoka that being a Magical Girl is dangerous but necessary to protect people. That night, Sayaka takes Madoka on a Witch patrol and they enter a Witch's Barrier. Mabayu, watching them recalls that Kyoko would have interfered in another timeline but this time she's elsewhere. Sayaka struggles against the Familiars, and Kyubey attempts to convince Madoka to make a contract. Homura intervenes by freezing time, defeating the Familiars, and scaring off Kyubey. She warns Madoka to avoid making a contract, saying she would regret it.

Kyosuke is genuinely happy, and Sayaka feels her efforts have paid off.
  • Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Sayaka is feeling down at work and tells Mabayu she wishes she could erase her memories. Later, Sayaka meets Madoka and they go on to fight Witches. Mabayu and Homura observe the situation and Sayaka faces Elsa Maria. Madoka, concerned, asks Kyubey if contracting could save Sayaka. At this moment, Mabayu kills Kyubey, and Homura defeats the Witch while Sayaka watches in confusion. Sayaka lashes out at Homura and attacks her, but ends up exposing Mabayu. Sayaka accuses Mabayu of being involved with Kyubey and Homura and Mabayu realize that Homura can't freeze time while Sayaka holds her. Sayaka attacks Mabayu and gives chase. Homura intervenes but Madoka, now a Magical Girl, appears and Homura surmises she wished to end Sayaka's suffering.
  • Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Sayaka and Madoka talk by the river at sunset and they spot Hitomi and Kyosuke talking from a distance. Sayaka lookd down and jokes that they might be on a date. Madoka asks if Sayaka is okay, and she laughs it off and insists they're only childhood friends and hopes Hitomi and Kyosuke end up together.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Homura and Mabayu are in the pendulum room and outside, Sayaka and Madoka prepare to face Walpurgisnacht. Sayaka reassures Madoka that they'll be fine if they fight together.
    • Walpurgisnacht attacks and Sayaka protects Kyosuke from debris, getting severely injured in the process. She tells him she is happy she protected his music and urges him to survive and share it with the world.
    • Mabayu, camouflaged, watches them head into battle. Sayaka and Madoka's attacks have no effect, and Walpurgisnacht strikes them down. Homura admits to Mabayu that she can't continue, but Mabayu urges her to go ahead and promises they won't repeat their mistakes. Homura resets time.
  • Sayaka dies from her injuries. Rescuers find Kyosuke alive and pull an unconscious Sayaka from the rubble, but she has no pulse and cannot be revived.

  • Day 14 - Monday, the 29th: Sayaka finds Kyosuke's hospital room empty. She meets his nurse, who tells her Kyosuke is in rehabilitation. Mabayu overhears and regrets not recognizing Kyosuke's name and realizes Sayaka would want to heal him. Kyubey appears and asks what she's doing, but she lies and says she's delivering something. Sayaka then realizes Mabayu can talk with Kyubey and he introduces himself to Madoka for a contract. Later, at the café, Sayaka is surprised Mabayu is a Magical Girl and Mabayu explains she doesn't remember her wish. Sayaka guesses Mabayu's wish might have been to ease her mother's suffering and Mabayu wonders if she erased her own memories.

Sayaka and Kyosuke discuss classical music and Kyosuke is frustrated by his condition and inability to play the violin. Sayaka spots Kyubey and Mabayu realizes Sayaka contracts for Kyosuke's sake. Mabayu questions if Sayaka will heal Kyosuke's hand and Sayaka expresses her desire to restore the old Kyosuke who loved music. • Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Mabayu secretly watches Hitomi and Sayaka at a café, where Hitomi reveals she's in love with Kyosuke. Hitomi promises to wait only one day before confessing, giving Sayaka a chance to act. Later, Mabayu realizes Sayaka's sorrow comes from the same secret rivalry as in the previous loop. She worries about how to help but hesitates to reveal she overheard their conversation. Sayaka eventually asks Mabayu to predict her future, and Mabayu agrees but warns that the future is fixed once she sees it. Sayaka chooses to take her fate into her own hands and is determined to confess to Kyosuke without regrets.
    • Later that night, Sayaka wrestles with her decision to call Kyosuke. Kyubey approaches her, and she questions him about the nature of a Magical Girl's body, confirming that they are essentially invincible, painless vessels as long as their Soul Gem is intact. This realization fills her with self-loathing, as she feels her heroic ideals have been corrupted.

Mabayu is surprised but hears from Homura that Sayaka is acting strangely and Madoka found her. On the footbridge, Madoka asks Sayaka if she's okay. Sayaka tells Madoka she's no longer human and that her body is only a vessel for her soul. Madoka tries to comfort her, but Sayaka throws her Soul Gem onto the street and collapses. Homura stops time and warns Mabayu of the danger that if the Soul Gem gets too far from her body, Sayaka will be dead until it's returned. Sayaka's Soul Gem lands on a truck, and Mabayu locates it with her future vision.
    • Kyubey appears and tells Madoka that making a contract would allow her to save Sayaka right away. In her desperation, Madoka agrees and is about to make a wish to save her friend.
    • They retrieve it, but it disappears from their hands. On the footbridge, Madoka is relieved to see Sayaka awake. Sayaka asks if Madoka made a contract for her, and Madoka explains Kyubey said she could help.
    • In Homura's pendulum room, she apologizes for almost losing her temper, but they can still cooperate to fight Walpurgisnacht, and this time, Sayaka doesn't hate her.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: As the Magical Girls prepare for battle against Walpurgisnacht, Mabayu shares that today's lucky music is Mozart's "Dies irae," which Sayaka finds fitting. Homura freezes time, and they all attack Walpurgisnacht together, but it barely damages her. She quickly knocks out Sayaka and Madoka, and Homura tries to reach Madoka, but Mabayu stops and urges them to leave. Homura says goodbye to Madoka, and Mabayu says goodbye to Sayaka before Homura resets time.

    • Homura comes to the final conclusion that Sayaka cannot be allowed to make a contract and that Madoka will always find a reason to wish. She decides that the only solution is to restart the loop, making any further action in this timeline pointless.

Confused, Sayaka visits Kyousuke, apologizes for being distracted, and promises to visit again before leaving.

  • Day 26 - Saturday, the 10th: Madoka thanks Homura for saving her and tries to befriend her. Fearing she will draw Madoka closer to the world of Magical Girls, Homura coldly rejects her. Later, Homura learns that the rescued child's reunion caused a fatal car accident, killing four people. She is shaken, realizing her intervention created a new tragedy.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Sayaka and Kyosuke sit in silence as the news announces an evacuation order due to abnormal weather. Guided by the memory of Madoka's kindness, she rejects this binary choice and finds a third option, using her knowledge of the future to save the child without causing any other deaths. She confirms this successful outcome with Mabayu, reinforcing her resolve to find a path where no one has to die.

Supplementary Films

The placement of these events is ultimately unclear, however it is known that they're part of the 14 films of this article. They can only be narrowed down to a few possibilities.

Film MK

This film details a timeline where Homura's actions cause a ripple effect, primarily through the safety of Amy. Not many details are otherwise known about this timeline, but from what can be observed, this film can take place in any of the later Scene 0 timelines, starting with Film 6.

  • Day 2 - Wednesday, the 17th: Homura successfully intercepts Kyubey near Madoka's house to prevent their initial contact. However, Amy the cat meowing outside Madoka's window draws Madoka's attention. This is an event that never occurred in previous loops, and Homura notes it as a potential source of unforeseen changes.
  • Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: Madoka, troubled by a nightmare of Amy being hit by a car, behaves differently, leaving school alone. Homura, unable to predict her actions, abandons her usual routine to shadow her discreetly. Madoka's path leads her to Récompense, where Amy often stays. To monitor the situation, Homura enters the shop and, for the first time in this timeline, meets Madoka and the shop owner, Sakie. Homura remains on high alert, knowing the time of Amy's predicted fatal accident is approaching.
    • As the crucial moment arrives, a series of coincidences—including Sayaka returning a penlight Madoka had bought for Amy—causes Amy to hesitate at the shop's doorway. The reckless car passes by harmlessly. With Amy safe inside the shop, the primary reason for Madoka to contract in this specific scenario is eliminated. Homura successfully preserves the timeline from this particular threat without direct intervention.
  • Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Homura transfers into Madoka's class as planned. Madoka is surprised to learn Homura is a transfer student, and later, they see Amy from a school walkway. Madoka confides in Homura that she feels responsible for Amy becoming more friendly and thus more vulnerable. Homura reflects that despite the risks, Amy, having known Madoka's kindness, would undoubtedly seek her out again, no matter how many times she is reborn.

Film KS

This film focuses on Kyoko Sakura in a timeline where her cynical worldview is challenged by her encounters with a young girl named Shinon. The placement of these events is either in Film 5, Film 6, Film 7, or Film 10.

  • Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: Kyoko Sakura patrols Mitakihara City for Familiars but finds none. She stops by shops and overhears Kazuko Saotome buying rare CDs with a moving "Ave Maria" performance to support a student's emotional recovery from injury. She also overhears her talking on the phone with Junko Kaname about bhow she is a teacher. Kyoko then encounters Kyubey, who reveals two irregulars operate in Mitakihara's shadows and at least two girls have Magical Girl potential, with one showing exceptional promise. Kyoko dismisses any worry about rivals.
  • Day 18 - Sunday, the 2nd: Madoka Kaname notices a Familiar's Labyrinth and alerts Sayaka Miki, who has become a Magical Girl, and she rushes over while telling Madoka to stay safe. Kyoko senses the Labyrinth from an arcade, and is forced to fight the Familiar after it gets aggressive. After defeating it, she rescues a lost girl named Shinon who wandered inside.
    • Kyoko reunites Shinon with her grandmother in the main street. Shinon thanks her and exchanges candy, choosing apple flavor for Kyoko. Kyoko spots Madoka and Sayaka talking to Kyubey. She realizes they are the potentials Kyubey mentioned, mocks Sayaka as a weak rookie, and complains about wasting time on a Familiar that could have grown for a Grief Seed. Sayaka confronts Kyoko for suggesting to let people die for Grief Seeds, but Madoka defends Kyoko by noting her kindness in saving Shinon and reuniting her with family. Kyubey speculates Shinon entered the Labyrinth, and Sayaka teases Kyoko for being secretly helpful, though Kyoko denies intent to help others.
    • Separately, Mabayu Aki and Homura Akemi watch the interaction hidden and agree to leave Kyoko alone, as she respects boundaries.
    • That evening, back in Kazamino City, Kyoko reflects on her vow to avoid risking her life for others. Mami Tomoe asks about her mood, and Kyoko explains the unintentional rescue. She criticizes Mami for leaving Mitakihara to rookies, allowing Familiars to roam. Mami suggests Kyoko still cares about the city. Kyoko denies it and recalls a past mass suicide in Mitakihara caused by a Witch, where a lone police officer tried to stop Witch-kissed people but got his gun stolen and died, later blamed for the deaths. Kyoko arrived too late, defeated the Witch amid corpses, and notes no one would believe the truth.
    • Kyoko emphasizes the futility of self-sacrifice, as the officer's family suffered from his misplaced justice. She references her father's church, destroyed by her wish, and reaffirms using magic only for herself after her family's loss.
  • Day 19 - Monday, the 3rd: Kyoko returns to the same back alley and finds Shinon again. Shinon admits she lied about being lost; she comes alone when sad to visit where her father died. She overheard people blaming her father, the police officer, for the mass suicide instead of recognizing it as such.
    • Kyoko realizes Shinon is the officer's daughter. Shinon shares her family situation: her mother died after birth, leaving her and her grandmother. Kyoko comforts her, stressing that if family loses faith, no one will defend him. She introduces the concept of invisible evil Witches causing misery and secret from society, implying her father died fighting one. Kyoko promises another secret if Shinon keeps believing.
    • Kyoko gives Shinon food and tells her to go home, but Shinon stays to talk to her father a bit more.
  • Day 20 - Tuesday, the 4th: Later at the arcade, Kyoko senses another Labyrinth from the same alley, rushes back, and finds Shinon trapped inside the Labyrinth, injured and bleeding. She reaches Shinon, who briefly wakes, and Kyoko reveals the Witch story is true, that she is a Magical Girl who fights them, and she witnessed Shinon's father's heroic final moments trying to save people. Shinon dies peacefully after thanking Kyoko and affirming belief in her father.
    • Kyoko tracks and destroys the Familiar in rage, noting it doesn't violate her vow since it's for herself. Shinon's body vanishes with the Labyrinth. Kyoko hopes she reunites happily with her parents.
    • Sayaka arrives, having sensed magic that faded, and thanks Kyoko for handling the Familiar despite her stance on no payoff. Sayaka calls her a good person, but Kyoko insists she fights solely for herself and walks away. Sayaka finds her confusing.

Kyoko is interrupted from working by Homura's call and, back at Homura's place, learns that Mami might soon become a Witch. Homura orders Mabayu to stay put, but Mabayu sees Kyoko's future and rushes off.
    • Mabayu meets Mami at the train station and she asks Mabayu to leave town with her to escape Homura's control. Mabayu warns Mami about using magic recklessly, as she could turn into a Witch. Mabayu prepares to cut Mami's memories and sees herself in them, moments with Mami that she hadn't known about. She sees herself meeting Mami and learning about Magical Girls. In the memory, Mabayu learns of her wish, her time with Mami and recruiting other Magical Girls. Then she sees Mami's perspective from this timeline of Mabayu having forgotten about her and of Homura's actions.
    • Kyoko catches up to them and accuses her of wiping Mami's memories but Mabayu runs off. She walks the streets and feels guilty of encouraging other girls to make contracts and then erasing their memories. In the pendulum room, Homura offers her a Grief Seed, but Mabayu refuses and sees Homura's future. Mabayu lies and says that they'll stop Mami's rampage and defeat Walpurgisnacht. Kyubey appears, but Homura shoots him and they split up to go search for Mami. Kyubey finds Mabayu by the riverside and she reveals she saw a future where she becomes a Witch, destroying the town with Mami. Afterwards, her prediction said she'd turn into a Witch after she woke up in the next loop and that there'd be no more loops afterwards. He argues it's her fate, but Madoka interrupts and declares that Mabayu deserves salvation. Madoka wishes to save her from despair and becomes a Magical Girl.
    • Mabayu remembers her original timeline where she saw Homura and died fighting Walpurgisnacht. She also sees a prediction of a future timeline where Madoka saves Magical Girls by becoming Ultimate Madoka.
    • Breaking away from the visions, Mabayu reassures Madoka and declares that Kyubey's plan to use Mabayu to manipulate Homura will not work. Homura calls to Mabayu telepathically and informs her Mami's at school. They meet, Homura sees Madoka is a Magical Girl and Mabayu apologizes for her earlier lies. They all agree to save Mami from becoming a Witch and Kyoko shows up as well to help them and tells Mabayu she doesn't blame her for earlier. The girls find Mami in a classroom and when Homura tries to stop time, she realizes Mami has covered the floor with ribbons to counter her. Mami ensnares Mabayu with ribbons and vows to break her supposed brainwashing. Madoka frees Mabayu with her arrows and Mami attacks, admitting she only ever wanted to protect everyone. Mabayu approaches Mami and her team protect her from Mami's attacks. She reassures Mami that even if her memory is gone, their bond will remain, and there's hope for all Magical Girls. Mami asks if they're friends, and Mabayu nods that they will always be friends and cuts Mami's memories.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: In Homura's pendulum room, the group prepares for Walpurgisnacht. Homura notes that they were able to steal weapons from military bases and set them around the city, though only 70% of their original goal was met. Mabayu reads the future and adjusts the plan slightly and they head off. Mabayu affirms to the others that they'll succeed but after everything, Walpurgisnacht is undefeated. Mabayu apologizes to Homura, who knew the prediction was a lie. Homura bids Madoka goodbye, turns her shield, and resets time as her hourglass runs out.

Film 13

The fourteenth and final timeline. Mabayu goes back to living a normal life, while Madoka saves all Magical Girls and creates a new universe.[15][16] While it isn't completely proven that this timeline is in fact the final timeline in this universe, which is seen in the anime, this seems to be the implication of Mabayu Aki's Personal Story.

This timeline is depicted in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, its retellings and supplemental material. However Mabayu's side of the story is depicted in:

  1. Film 13 of Scene 0
  2. Mabayu Aki's Personal Story
  • Day 1 - Tuesday, the 16th: Mabayu wakes to an alarm and on her way to school, Mami doesn't greet her, as she has no memories of their past after Mabayu removed them. After class, she meets Homura in the hospital, where they discuss a new plan to steal a fighter jet. Mabayu suggests Homura doesn't need her help and thanks Homura. She erases herself from everyone's memory to secure the future she's seen. Homura is unable to grasp the full meaning of Mabayu's actions, but after Mabayu cuts them, she goes back to changing her plans to fight Walpurgisnacht. Mabayu, back in her room, contemplates her inevitable fate as a Witch and prepares to fade from everyone's memory. She bids farewell before cutting her own memories.
  • Day 2 - Wednesday, the 17th: On the way to school, Mabayu overhears a conversation between Sayaka, Madoka, and Hitomi about love letters. After school, Mabayu sees a strange white creature and follows it, only to realize time has stopped. Mami places an order and Mabayu is thankful but has a happy feeling she can't explain.
  • Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: During school, Mabayu reflects on her mediocre life, feeling trapped in a loop. Time stops for her again in the classroom. Later, at work, she discovers a hidden talent for drawing latte art, which earns her praise from Sakie and customers. A cat named Amy unexpectedly becomes friendly with her. Despite these small joys, Mabayu feels a persistent sense that she has forgotten something important.
  • Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Madoka has a dream where she saw one of the previous timelines in which Homura was fighting alone against Walpurgisnacht. Homura enrolls in school and while Madoka shows her around, cryptically warns Madoka against leaving her old life behind.
    • After school, Madoka hears Kyubey's plight as he's hunted by Homura at the mall and goes to help him. Homura appears but Sayaka attacks her with a fire extinguisher and they run away. They're attacked separately by Gertrud and her Anthony Familiars but Madoka and Sayaka are saved by Mami. Mami threatens Homura and then takes Madoka and Sayaka to her apartment where she and Kyubey explain Magical Girls to them.
  • Day 11 - Friday, the 26th: Mami takes Madoka and Sayaka along to show off the life of a Magical Girl and kills Gertrud. Mami offers the Grief Seed to Homura, who was spying on them, but she refuses.

  • Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: After failing to visit Kyosuke, Madoka and Sayaka discover a Grief Seed at the hospital. Madoka runs to fetch Mami while Sayaka waits to watch the Grief Seed. It hatches before Madoka and Mami get there and Sayaka and Kyubey get taken inside the Labyrinth. Mami and Madoka enter and are followed by Homura. Mami restrains Homura and proceeds to the Witch with Madoka. On the way, Madoka tells Mami she's decided to become a Magical Girl, and Mami confesses her own loneliness over the life of a Magical Girl.
    • When they reach Charlotte, Mami fights carelessly and dies in battle against her, but Homura arrives and kills the Witch herself.
  • Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: Mabayu notes that Mami is absent from school, which is unusual. At work, her drawings gain attention online, causing her social anxiety to flare up. She confesses to Sakie that she feels a "hole in her heart," as if she has forgotten a crucial memory. Sakie suggests that sometimes it is better to forget painful things, but Mabayu vehemently rejects this idea, causing an awkward moment.
    • Kyosuke is grief-stricken due to his injured hand and Sayaka makes a wish with Kyubey to heal his arm. Hitomi is kissed by H.N. Elly and Madoka saves her and several others from killing themselves with chlorine gas. Sayaka arrives and saves them, but then is chastised by Homura, who arrived late.
  • Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Madoka accompanies Sayaka while she patrols the city for Witches and Familiars. • That night however, Sayaka is challenged by Kyoko to a duel and Kyubey informs Madoka of it. Later, while time is stopped, she watches a famous movie and is surprised to find she has no memory of it, even though she knows its famous lines. While watching, she has a vivid flashback of watching the same film with her mother, who had a unique, empathetic approach to fortune-telling. Her mother told her she did not have to become a fortune-teller like her.
  • Day 21 - Monday, the 5th: Sayaka doesn't attend school due to her feelings with her new body. Kyoko takes Sayaka to her family's church in an attempt to get her to understand her point of view. Kyoko explains how her wish and family came to ruin, but Sayaka rejects her ideals again.

As Homura and Kyoko make plans for Walpurgisnacht, Kyubey appears and informs them that Sayaka is in a bad condition.
  • Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Mami's absence from school continues. Mabayu asks Sakie about her mother's true feelings regarding her fortune-telling. She explains that she wanted to become like her mother to help people, but is haunted by her mother's words. She worries her mother disliked her. Sakie tries to comfort her, but Mabayu becomes emotional, insisting she wants to remember everything about her mother, even the painful parts.
  • Day 26 - Saturday, the 10th: Mabayu visits the building where her mother used to work. She recalls happy memories of her mother's kindness and her own desire to be like her. However, these memories are accompanied by a painful, tightening feeling in her chest. She resolves to confront these memories on her own, keeping her investigation a secret from the concerned Sakie.
  • Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Hitomi presumedly confesses to Kyosuke while Sayaka spies on them. She fights more Familiars and Homura finds her and offers her a Grief Seed. Sayaka refuses Homura's help and Homura threatens Sayaka to not make Madoka suffer. They're interrupted by Kyoko who restrains Homura long enough for Sayaka to run away. Homura escapes from Kyoko's grasp but Sayaka has already entered the train where she overhears two sexist men talking bad about their girlfriends. She confronts them and transforms, potentially killing them.
    • Meanwhile, Madoka searches for Sayaka and Kyubey approaches her. As Madoka is about to make a contract for Sayaka to turn back to normal, Homura kills Kyubey and pleads with Madoka. Madoka runs away and another Kyubey shows up to talk to Homura. Kyubey figures out that Homura is from a different timeline and she tells him that she knows what his plans are. Kyoko finally finds Sayaka on the train station and Sayaka laments her decisions and turns into a Witch.

    • Madoka is approached by Kyubey in her room, who explains that the sacrifices of Magical Girls are necessary to thwart off entropy. Madoka rejects his comparison of humans to livestock and chastises him for tricking Magical Girls, though Kyubey explains he doesn't understand the concept of tricking and takes his leave.
    • Kyoko takes Sayaka's body to a hotel and uses her own magic to keep it fresh. She questions Kyubey on whether it'd be possible to save Sayaka and he dodges the question, saying that such an achievement wouldn't surprise him.
  • Day 24 - Thursday, the 8th: While Madoka and Hitomi go to school, Kyoko calls to Madoka telepathically to go and save Sayaka. Kyoko explains she plans to have Madoka call out to Oktavia to bring out Sayaka. As the two of them chase down Oktavia's Labyrinth, Homura notices Madoka's absent from school and leaves to find her. Kyoko informs Madoka of Walpurgisnacht's arrival and they enter the Labyrinth but fail to have Sayaka come back. Homura arrives to save and take Madoka outside of the Labyrinth and Kyoko makes her own Soul Gem explode, killing both Oktavia and herself.
    • Homura has a conversation with Kyubey in her room, where he reveals that he's figured out why Madoka's potential to become a Magical Girl is so great. He explains that Homura's time loops all for the sake of Madoka have lead to her carrying the karmic destiny of all those different timelines.
  • Some days later, Sayaka's body is found and a funeral procession is held for her. Madoka confronts Kyubey about his dismissive mindset, and he reveals that his kind lack emotions, so they couldn't utilize magic to thwart off entropy and that if Incubators hadn't come to Earth, humans would likely still be living in the stone age.
  • Madoka goes to Homura's apartment and asks her about Walpurgisnacht. Homura breaks down and tells Madoka that she's from another timeline and that she's repeated the month many times trying to save Madoka.
  • Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: A storm is formed by Walpurgisnacht's approach and everyone in Mitakihara evacuates. On Walpurgisnacht, Mabayu and Sakie go to the evacuation center with everyone else. Mabayu feels the need to remember so when time stops again, she leaves the evacuation center to go to her mom's previous hospital room.
    • Homura fights Walpurgisnacht alone and fails again, this time deciding not to rewind time as she'd only attach more karmic destiny to Madoka.
    • Meanwhile, Madoka worries about Homura and after asking Kyubey, and gaining her mother's approval, goes to find her.
    • At the same time, Sakie ends up finding Mabayu in the hospital after guessing where she would be. She tells Mabayu that she was the actual reason her mom kept living and the two decide to stay at the hospital until the storm ends. Mabayu then sees that the sky has suddenly cleared up and can't help but feel happy.
    • Madoka finds and comforts Homura. She finally makes a contract with Kyubey and wishes to save all Witches in the past and future everywhere.
    • Madoka becomes a Magical Girl and rewrites the universe, creating the Law of Cycles Universe and saving all Magical Girls.

After Madoka made her wish to end Magical Girls' suffering, her Soul Gem was so big that it resembled a shooting star. After the Madoka of the original universe took on enough of the other girls' curses, she became a Witch herself and Kriemhild Gretchen became so powerful that her weight would eventually destroy the entire universe.

Homura was able to witness this destruction due to her time powers, with Kyubey explaining what was happening to her as the universe was being rewritten. Ultimate Madoka, due to her wish encompassing both past and future, as well as her karmic potential, was able to destroy this version of her. Afterwards, the universe was rewritten to a universe where Madoka is erased from existence and she becomes the Law of Cycles. Madoka leaves Homura her ribbons as a memento of her and the two depart, both wishing to remember each other.[17] Homura's wish made a miracle happen, letting Homura remember Madoka, and she also kept a connection to the old universe inside her shield, where Madoka is constantly fighting Kriemhild Gretchen.[18]

It is ultimately unclear whether Film 13 and the original anime took place in the same timeline. In the possibility that they are separate, it's possible that in the following timelines, Mabayu became a Witch quickly after waking up as she'd predicted, possibly Itzli. Regardless, what happens to Mabayu after Film 13 is unknown.

Trivia

  • According to Oktavia's Witch Card for Timeline 3, it's possible that in Timeline 3, Sayaka has become interested in the guitar, and it has been speculated that Kyosuke decided to take up guitar in this timeline instead.
