Mami tells the Player that fights have been breaking out among students recently as they walk to school. She asks the Player if they sense anything, and she responds that she senses a magical barrier. Mami says she must have the best detection abilities out of everyone and says she will call everyone to defeat the Familiar inside the barrier. Mami then asks the Player to treat all Familiars like Witches in the future due to the danger they pose to normal people.
After the fight, Kyoko asks the Player to ignore Familiars until they grow into a Witch. Sayaka yells at her, saying that Familiars are just as dangerous as any Witch. Madoka says she wishes she could get along with Kyoko as well as Sayaka does, and both of them exclaim that they aren't getting along.
The next day, Homura walks up to the Player and says that she must have noticed the Witches barrier generating nearby. She says that it seems like the same Familiar from yesterday, and the Player decides to defeat the familiar since it is close to becoming a Witch. Homura contacts the rest of the sextet and they begin to fight.
After they finish, Kyoko says again not to call her for a Familiar. Mami asks what happened to the Kyoko that yelled about not leaving all the fighting to the rookies, and Kyoko says she didn't mean it that way. Madoka thanks Kyoko for her devotion and Kyoko gets flustered, saying that they should find other barriers.
Madoka runs up to Sayaka, Kyoko, Mami and the Player an unknown amount of time later. She exclaims that she saw puppies be taken in by a barrier. Kyoko asks if they'll just save everything, and Mami says it's the thought of wanting to save lives that counts. Kyoko reluctantly agrees to help save the puppies as they leave to find the barrier.
After the battle, the magical girls escape the barrier with the puppies. Madoka is thankful, and Kyoko tells her to take them to their mother before she gets too worried. As Madoka runs off with the puppies, both Sayaka and Mami agree that they must take care of the barrier before it fully awakens.
The Sextet stands in front of the barrier and Mami warns it will be a long string of battles. Kyoko says that she will sit this one out, but Sayaka calls her a coward which causes Kyoko to get upset. She resolves to fight the Familiars to prove her strength and enters the Barrier.
The battle ends with Mami performing a Tiro Finale, saying that she might have gone overboard just to impress her juniors.
After the next battle, Mami cleanses the Player's soul gem which causes some discomfort from Homura.
After another battle, the Witch flees and the Barrier collapses. Kyoko says that despite being quiet and fighting from a distance, Homura is probably upsetting to Homura. Homura says she will simply find her own grief seeds when she needs them, leading Sayaka to call her a creep. Homura leaves and Madoka wonders why they can't get along.
